What would you change about them to make them better in your opinion? What was the most lackluster part about them?

Do you judge more hardly shows that had potential and didn't deliver than average and run-of-the-mill shows that did their job well? In a sense, is trying to break the mold a quality of its own or the execution is what really matters?

If you're gonna talk about spoilers, please state the show and code it.

Tales of Zestiria. The animation was amazing and episode 0 was so spectacular, but in the end it turned out that animation was the only good thing.

Aldnoah Zero. Urobuchi leaving the project early on doomed the series and resulted in season 2 being a complete trash.

To be fair, a lot of Tales fans don't even consider the Zestiria game to be good.

Zankyou no Terror had a pretty awesome first episode, but somewhere in the middle it started falling apart, and then that end happened.

Kuromukuro. Should've gotten a third season but as it stands, it had an awful ending without resolving anything.

Also Arcana Famiglia had a lot of great tools but it didn't use any of them properly and ended up disappointing.

Well, of course SAO will be the first anime that come from my mind. It really had a lot of potential, yet it just turned into edgy protagonist that didn't do sh*t and trying to be cool, even though it's not.

To fix the anime, it needed a lot of fix, such as

If the author spent time to did a research of how the game works and don't do much that fanservice, I'm really sure SAO will have a lot of potential. It's a shame for wasting a good idea become a bad written anime.

Yes! For example, Naruto is not really that special. It is just about one ninja guy who wants to become a hokage. Well, but it is fun. Yes, it is far from masterpiece, but it did the job very well (except the end of the shows). At the end of the day, even the idea is mediocre and cliche, if it did their job really well, at least it will entertaint me.

Seikasuru Kado. It started out really well and seemed to set up quite unique ending within the genre, but by the half of the show it did 180° turn and decided to go about it in the most generic way imaginable. That completely destroyed the show for me.

Gonna say Yozakura Quartet, cause I just finished it yesterday. It started off really cool, interesting portrayals of magic and some fun characters, but gradually just got less and less exciting as it went on

JoJo's parts 1, 3 and 4

I always felt like the writing/fillers ruined it for me.
But since i respect a lot of Araki's artistic decisions, i keep giving it chances. And i'm already liking the first 4 episodes of part 5 more than the 2 previous parts combined.

Ore.Imo. could have been a lot better than it was; it wasn't bad but with a couple of changes it could be one of the best things ever.

Really all they needed to do is make Kirino less ungrateful, remove the unneeded harem, give Kyousuke a more defined personality like actually emphasize their contrasting life philosophies and emphasize that Kirino things one should work hard to achieve excellence and make Kyousuke explicit about that there is no reason to stand out above the crowd so at least Kyousuke has some defining traits — it would be a pretty interest contrast of personalities if they made it clear that Kyousuke is brilliant but lazy and has all the natural talent but lacks the drive so ends up being average but Kirino is averagely-talented but highly driven and ends up being exceptional through sheer hard work. Kyousuke as one of those thousand "audience stand-in" characters is just not interesting as a character.

And sink the ship not at the end but just take pride in your siscon ending and have a sex scene or at least make it impactful and have a tragœdic end with their parents finding out and forcing them to stop and live apart and end it on an epilogue where they meet again 3 years later with Kirino now old enough to live alone and be like "Fuck this world and its stupid social values" and then just have them pick up right where they left up.

Honestly it would be a far better ending if it actually had impact with both of them accepting being disowned by their parents to be together or something and Kirino giving up being exceptional and Kyousuke getting some of his old drive to be back so they meet in the middle at the end having lost many friends that couldn't take it but also kept the ones that could.

But the ending at the end is terrible and lacks impact and Kirino is really one of those failed tundere characters; the trope walks a dangerous line where it can either work really well and be endearing or fail spectacularly and make the character unlikable and Kirino is definitely the latter.

Ore.Imo. legitimately has a far more interesting concept than Koi Kaze which is a super bland concept with great execution; if the level of execution of Koi Kaze was put into Ore.Imo. and they kept the humor it would have been one of the best things ever. Kosiro is actually a tundere that succeeds because there is no "perspective character"; the audience is allowed to experience the complicated emotions that Kosiro experiences so it humanizes his constantly lashing out at Nanoka over simply repressing his own feelings and he ends up not becoming unstomachable but sympathetic as a result. Kirino's feelings are kept completely secret from the audience till the end when it's suddenly revealed "had complex feelings for kyousuke all along" but it's not revealed during the show so he just ends up appearing an unreasonable arsehole.

It is obvious that "obscenity" is not a term capable of exact legal definition; in the practice of the courts, it means "anything that shocks the magistrate".

toaru index.

it has such potential, such a great idea of a skill for it's mc, such a world that's honestly interesting a looks very well written.

too bad it was written for kids/teenagers. the way the characters behave is obnoxious and the MC is one of the worst I've seen, or should I say, he's the typical moralist good guy happy go lucky childish shonen protagonist. you can say whatever you like I can't see an adult honestly liking this, or he may like it independently of this flaw.

same with kingdoms. the MC is exactly like that. it's a seinen but the way the MC especially behaves, it is clearly aimed at children.

Shield Hero and Goblin Slayer - Could've been rich in graphic violence, explicit language and sexual content but no, best way is neutering everything down to just another fantasy adventure as not to scare off audience. GS's first episode is a bait with implied rape and off-screen 'brutal' butchering of a random fodder character. Makes me wonder why both shows had been aired past 10 PM on workdays, clearly children are expected to still be awake at those days and hours, right? It's not like the following day had had school waiting for them...

The worst part is that both titles had basis for more gruesome approach to their stories. Squandered.

Finally someone that agrees that part 5 is supreme, a lot of folks praise part 4 but i've found mediocre at best with the whole slice of life thing, although it has my favorite villain

KADO: The Right Answer. What could have been a really mature show analyzing the positives and negatives that result from technology, as well as human nature, has an ending that starts out merely disappointing but becomes so laughably bad that it actually is kind of entertaining to marvel at.

Darking in the Franx, it had the animation, the setting and even decent plot. But the character and plot development was a disaster... and the battles started to disappear too, so the animation became kinda pointless. Really sad about that one.

A show that hooked you really bad at the beginning because of how good it was and then it got worse. Simple as that.

There are so many points wrong here. Unfortunately, people have this idea that they can fix an anime they can't fully comprehend, I find it incredible. It is just a massive circlejerk at this point, in which people (aware or not) repeat what others have said about it.

I can rebute these points, if someone is interested. I don't have time right now, and I'm on mobile, so it is a pain :)

In my opinion koi to uso had a lot of potential. Unfortunately it got hit with the horrible curse of "read the manga"- endings. Just like Deadman wonderland did.

I feel like Deadman in particular deserves a good adaptation and should be re-made, because it's really starts getting good in the manga where the anime decided to cut off. It's a shame to not know what the potential of amazing shows really could have been.

Um, so... Kemurikusa. Heck, the initial idea was pretty cool, although some characters were quite annoying. But in general is disappointed me so badly.

Also, well, should I even mention the infamous Mayoiga? First epi was cool. Then it was only worse.

Aaaand in discussion about Bungou, I agree that S2 was the best. Especially first four episodes, omg. Brilliant.

Most recently, Sarazanmai didn't deliver a well put together story in the end and ended up just feeling rushed.
The Rising of the Shield Hero, I think the first 4 or so episodes are great but the show overall goes down in quality soon after becoming trash.

I would like to say CHARLOTTE .It could have been even better. The first 12 eps were amazing but the ending consisted too many things. For instance ep 13 alone can be made into another season but it was rushed into one. As a result many fans give it a low rating for its rushed ending.

There was never a high expectation to say that a show has a great potential to begin with, and that there were many that I felt like a letdown especially those that ended in a cliffhanger or "please read manga/light novel" for a conclusion.

OPM S2 - Nothing happened with Garou while the story started around him, and finished the season without a proper ending. (My opinion)

Children of Whales. I just wanted a standard fantasy anime but it bit off waaaaay more than it could chew and ended up being a horrible mess. What a shame too because they just had to focus on any one aspect of the story they presented and it would have turned out great instead of the mish-mash of plot threads that never went anywhere.
Stay Strong, KyoAni.

Darling in the FranXX - I think it just went to shit after episode 11.
SAO - the premise was good, but the characters, romance, pacing, etc
Dr. Stone - It's not even 25% done, but making Tsukasa unrealistically strong and Senku edgy kinda ruined my hopes for it.

1. Your Name - I acknowledge the movie's exigent deadline and insubstantial budget, which is why I know that Shinkai could have done better. Even the director himself admitted so. With such richness in potential of both writing and cinematography, YN should have exceeded to reach much eminent profundity instead of what it had tendered - a rather frivolous and schematic movie with uninspired themes, lackluster characterization, an irksome hastened pace and a clumsily magniloquent twist.

2. School Days - I personally don't have any interest with the anime since its execution, imo, is not very refined. I am, otoh, very impressed of the developments and the mean-spirited twists - also is the devilish conclusion. So, if there's ever a director who could handle this show with cognizant and meticulosity, then I would happily try it out.

Terror in Resonance (Zankyou no Terror)

What started out as a super interesting ideological battle with society on a massive scale and moral conflict of an innocent bystander, turned quickly into played out interpersonal drama foregoing any sort of intrigue. To put it frankly; they lost the plot.

Charlotte - I wouldn't say I didn't like it but this Anime felt like it needed more episodes to play around with the idea before going into its final arc. The last 2 episodes of the show felt very crammed. I still loved this Anime and I enjoyed it for what it is but like I mentioned, it probably needed another 12 episodes or so so that the series could express itself more. I read someone mentioning Charlotte and seems plenty who watched this do feel the same thing. It's not bad, at all, but it needed more time. This Anime has a feel of an X-Men to it. Anywho... it is what it is.

SAO's first arc. The premise had me on board immediately, I really wish they focused more on fighting through the floors instead of Kirito being OP and his harem.

Amen to that. Watching Quanzhi Gaoshou really shows what you can do with the genre and it's great. Shame SAO is, at the end of the day, just another harem disguised with shallow MMO side of it. The author literally made a game function to allow you to have sex in game, lmao.

Kekkai Sensen.

if only they deliver the THIRD SEASON and gives us the closure about his struggle to help his sister that he loves so much!

nah jk, it’s already good for me.

i think it’s Boku Dake ga Inai Machi (Erased)

and also, some of the supposedly “had a great potential” anime that i watched are adaptation of the manga that already completed, so the only thing that they dont deliver is the rest of adaptation because some of them are only survive for 1 season, that’s a wasted potential if you ask me

D. Gray man had potential, but everything after Lenalee powered up was bad for me. I didn't like her a lot either.

Death Note was good but after L died it went downhill. Not because I liked him or anything but the other antagonists that appeared didn't interest me at all.

Naruto is a good character, but the anime adaptations and the amount of unlikable characters makes me hate the show.

One recent example would be Kimetsu no Yaiba. It has great animation and an interesting character design and amazing soundtrack, but for shounen jump, the characters aren't that memorable or likable.

People hate it because it had the potential and were expecting that it would be good so when it turned into a such disappointment of course people would hate it. When I watched the first few episodes I thought it was pretty decent and was wondering that I may have shit taste since everyone hates it but then I realized why everyone does. It's such a hyped shit though I don't hate it that much cause now I understand isekai means trash anyway.
