| Long story short, this is the perfect-pick-me upper that you should watch after you watch Serial Experiments Lain. Why? 3 Pointers: 1. It captures and gives off a similar end of 90s- early 2000s (even a minor step up in terms of quality) visual asthetic and feel which you should be used to / accustomed to after watching SEL 2. As Haibane Renmei starts off as a happy fantasy slice of life, it builds up to a well told coming of age story which leads to one of the most satisfying endings in anime history. While SEL carries a much darker tone, Haibane Renmei does the opposite and manages to tell a story with an optimistic angelic vibe. This however does not keep the series from having an in-depth plot like SEL. 3. The contrast between the two series carry an original and unique experience despite being a "vintage" anime. Both of these shows also deal with physiological issues from Lain becoming a metaphysical God to Rakka struggling with her past accepting her death in her previous life. Bonus: Both stories and art style are created by Abe Yoshitoshi, who thought of the original character design for both mc's of the story (Lain/Rakka) 10/10 for both series imo. Watch both of these as they still both have amazing stories that have a lot to offer. Alright back to Jojo and the wait for the part 6 Adaptation [as of 2019] |
