Yeah I've heard the movie cut a lot from the manga so I'm interested to see how this will be in comparison.

I for one, am really excited. The movie looked great but I couldnt get into it at all. The story was all over the place and I couldnt understand a thing that was going on.
Hence why I gave the movie a rating of average. It couldnt retain my attention.
So now this is coming out. Hopefully it will give me the context to be able to look at the original movie in a different light.

Woah. Okay. The Akira manga (and its 1988 movie) is set in the futuristic year of 2019, and a new anime of it gets announced in 2019. Coincidence? I think not!

I watched the 1988 film years ago, and I enjoyed it. Hoping this is a TV series remake that adapts the whole manga without rushing.

Officially hyped. Been looking forward to read the manga. I've seen the movie but I was left unhappy with that ending.

I hope this satisfy my curiosity.

I hope there’s no modern moe art style.

I still think the original anime film will be better than this TV anime.

and thinking about anime nowadays....
i have horribly little hope for this,

-if having low expectations, and it turns out to be actually good= much better feels than high expectations and its effing botched

I am a little reserved for this to be honest. The movie from 1988 in my opinion is one of the best anime movies of all time, and I hope the new project to be close to the old one. I will watch the new one of course, cause I am a fan of Akira and hope for it to be good.

If this TV anime adapts the whole thing then the movie will only have the stellar animation (which I doubt this one surpasses) over this. The movie didn't even adapt the best parts of the manga.

Surprised people actually wanna see a cash grab adaptation of Akira done with shitty modern digital animation instead of just reading a manga that's been out for almost 40 years now...just let it go.

I wonder if this will be a complete adaptation of the manga?

Oh shit, guess everything's getting remade these days after all.

I hope they do it justice. I don't think they'll ever make the animation as beautiful and timeless as the film, but I hope it'll still stand the test of time.

Akira is what got me into anime. Having watched it in the theater maybe a year after it came out in Japan. It blew my Junior High mind and I still think the animation holds up.

That being said the story got really confusing towards the end. Nearly to the point of boredom. Hopefully the new adaption fixes all of that.

"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

Really hope this would be as good or even better than the original film. I got to see Akira in theaters the last year and I loved it. This new series hopefully can hold its light against the earlier one or all the fans will just be disappointed.

I only watched it cause movies have higher budget and I like animation, the story is very meh from start to end, I don't think a better adaptation would do it for me.

Definitely a pass.

I really cherish the 1988 film and read 5 volumes of the manga which is also awesome.

Anyone who obsessed with a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk genre (like me) will surely anticipate for a modern adaptation of this cult classic.
