So I’m planning on watching this series, but do I just watch brotherhood or watch both, is it worth watching the original?

+1 Brotherhood

Not saying the original is bad but I personally preferred Brotherhood a bit more.

I only watch Brotherhood, but I think if you want to watch both, watch Brotherhood first

I Recommend watching FMA, then move on to brotherhood.

i dont think that it counts as a spoiler but ironically, there is more of "brotherhood" in FMA over FMAB.

FMA is not all canon, its art is worse, but they focus on the more important things and its not 'slow', fmab is just fast.

I like FMA more, it has more character depth and we get to see just how amazing the fullmetal alchemist is, the story kind of feels incomplete as it is not adapted from the manga, but they have tried to manage that remedy by making a sequel movie FMA:Conqueror of Shambala.

You can't go wrong with either, FMA is darker than FMAB, but make sure to wait atleast 6 months to go to the other show, because first half is very similar.

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood it's not even a competition.
FMA 2003 version is mostly non-canon unlike brotherhood and it's ending sucks.

I am not one to judge since I haven't seen the 2003 version, but I hope it doesn't have the awful comedy that Brotherhood has

FMA is slower and darker.
FMA Brotherhood fast pace for first 12-20 episodes then slows down for new content, Brighter in terms of colour palette and funnier.
The music is also really good.

The ending of Brotherhood sucks. Shoehorned as hell.

Dante > Father

2003 also used Wrath much better.

I loved both for different reasons. I started with Brotherhood a few years ago, then watched the original a few months ago. Both are great for different reasons. I recommend watching one of them now, then maybe watch the other a year or 2 or 3 from the time you finish whichever you watch. That way you won't be comparing them to each other. Then you can look at each of them as sort of... fraternal twins: both are very similar but not 100% the same, and you can still appreciate what each one brings to the table. Hopefully this made some sense :)

Brotherhood. If you want to watch both, go ahead but if I recall FMA has 'added' parts that aren't in FMAB.
Brotherhood is true to the manga.. I think? Correct me if I'm wrong but..
Also, I watched the first 15 or so episodes of FMA, then started watching FMAB because I had heard it was better to watch that instead and it was by far the best decision, imo.

FMAB all the way, basically.

the original is slower

basically because the makers took into account the small period of time between the two series. Since both start the same way, why bother getting through the introductory part at the same pace? So, they simply squeezed it a lot and removed bits of adventure here and there, the first 12-15eps of the 2009 series being a mere summary with holes (who do not matter really for the whole background scenario of the series, Iadmit)

I think FMA:B is better after all ratings on mal prove it(It's No1 for a reason).
It is generally considered to be one of the best anime of all time.
As for 2003 version it's not bad but it's not as good as brotherhood if I have to rate it I would gave it 8/10.

I guess nostalgia is one hell of a drug.

Brotherhood is better from what I understand. However watch the first episode of FMA, then watch Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
