4 > 5 >>> 3

Coincidentally, the same is true for the games themselves.

This glorious signature image was created by @Mayumi!

I am the Arbiter of Absolute Truth, and here is my wisdom:

"Anime was always influenced by the West. This is not news.
Shoujo is the superior genre primarily aimed at young people.
Harem/isekai are lazy genres that refuse any meaningful innovation.
There is no 'Golden Age.' There will always be top-shelf anime.
You should be watching Carole & Tuesday."

None of the above. Female Protagonist all the way. XD

I kid. To answer seriously, I think Yu Narukami, was fleshed out the best in the anime. In the games, you get to pick how they interact with others. But when it came to picking a personality for the anime, unlike Persona 3 where they settled for only one, they pretty much took all the possible options and somehow managed to make a cohesive character with it. He was unpredictable, but at the same time, a serious character.

Minato was a close 2nd, but I feel like they went the extra mile with Yu. And Ren was an absolute disappointment.

I don't think players can self-insert as themselves from other people's work. Rather it's wish fulfillment, but then again, I don't like to degrade people such at is.

In the game, the MC are silent protagonist with barely any personality since they are mean as avatar to represent the player.

It's an avatar for the player, what else is there need to elaborate more.

Oh, I'm sorry, the case of being misnomer is in-place. Self-insert is a term deemed to be used for master and maker, the author and the character, not the reader and the character. Like I said, it's a bit of wish fulfillment, appealing to perhaps the majorities wishes.

Hmm..guess I been using the wrong terminology. I won't says it wish fulfillment either but you know what I mean right, any more suitable term for it?

I don't know, I'm none the wiser. Silent protagonist is the most accurate that comes to mind, whether they have personality or not is everyone's conundrum. Participating in their daily life isn't something as inserting yourself anyway.

I haven't played Persona 4 yet because I don't have money for that one and most likely I'm going to spend my bucks for Code:Realize ~Wintertide Miracles~ first.

Persona 5 introduced me to Persona and of course, I got curious about the other Persona games. Since I heard 3 or 4 is good, I decided to play 3 first well because I heard the game's theme is about "death". I admit there are so many lacking about 3's gameplay compared to 5 because 3's too old, right?

But I came to like Makoto Yuki because y'know, he sacrificed his life for everyone which is the trope I like the most and the reason why he's my most favorite Persona Protagonist.

I don't like to play 1 and 2 because of players encountering random enemies if you move to a one block, place, or something instead of auto-generated which is why I came to dislike turn-based games because of this (e.g. Old Final Fantasy games) sans Persona 3 and 5 who has a mechanic of stealth attack the auto-generated enemies.

For the anime side of things Narukami Yu especially the English dub.

I'll never get tired of comparing Persona games. Keep these kind of threads coming.

Protagonist-wise:
Yu > Makoto > Ren

Strength-wise:
Makoto >>>>> Ren > Yu

Story-wise:
P3 > P4 > P5

Gameplay-wise:
P5 >>> P4 >>> P3 (Admit it. Climbing 200+ floors of Tartarus with little to no change is boring and tedious)

Now who wants to guess how they'll summon Persona in next game? Speaking of which:
Tarot card crushing > Evoker > removing masks

really?? i’d say evoker>masks>tarot cards. shooting yourself in the head to summon a persona is badass af, while crushing tarot cards just isn’t as dramatic as the other two

All summoning styles are lit af but that's my opinion if I have to rank them. Evoker is a bit dark (concept of death and suicide) and you can't do jack shit if you don't have the item in name, while removing masks are somewhat plain. Tarot cards sound cooler and they appear out of thin air so it validates the concept of Personas and Social Link Arcanas more.

I'm waiting for P6 team to summon theirs by dancing since ATLUS is obsessed with dancing enough to give each game a rhythm game spin-off :D

i 100% agree with you! i found p3’s mc to be more developed as a character, and p5’s seemed to have a kinda sarcastic & sassy personality based on his possible dialogue
