Is there any point in posting in a thread past it's second page?

I mean, usually at that time it is either:

1- 2-4 people arguing about something that may or may not be related to the original post.
2- A lot of people posting without reading other people's posts, and that won't have their posts read either

I also have a similar feel towards Reddit, it seem that unless you are one of the people mentioned in 1 or you're the OP, there's really no point.

I don't see a reason why you couldn't add your two sense on other's post as well. You could always easily get to being those 2-4. People need to consider how bored everyone else is as well. No one on this site seems to object to debating if you state your disagreement you'll get an instant discussion.

same logic with google search results as the second page is kinda useless

but for people like me that got plenty of time to waste at times i read the last few replies at least for every bump of that thread on the recent activity page

People do read the recent posts so it's not pointless. The posts on the first page are more likely to get replies and they set the tone for the thread, if you want to join the conversation at a late stage it's best for you to join the ongoing discussion, quote a few posts and tag a few people. Reddit has a bigger issue in that majority of the people sort the posts by the default top rankings. I prefer Reddit for lurking, I read the generally good quality posts, get a good chuckle sometimes and move on.

I don't see a point of a thread that can't even go past one page. Either the OP said something groundbreaking, or it's so insipid that no one caught interest. 99% it's the latter.

You can never guarantee that someone will read your post. I'm sure plenty of posts even on the first page get ignored. Just throw out your opinion if you feel like it and if the stars align someone might give it some attention.

Well, I usually intend to just share my two cents. I don't really care if people will read or not.
Sometimes I read other people's posts as well and reply if I wanted to

Even past the first page its easy to jump into a discussion and still contribute to the topic. Simply quote a post you are interested in and start a conversation. Unless the topic is vapid there is discussion to be had no matter the page count.

I usually read most posts on discussion, as long as the topic is interesting and catches my attention. Unless it is filled with nonsensical and meaningless chats or arguments, which would put me off. Then I don't really need to continue reading and posting.

Sometimes you won't get the satisfying post ya needed to see until ya go past the first page. A thread can always spark up at anytime even after it's long gone, people will even try to bump em.~

The first few replies aren't always smart.

is there even a point in posting in a thread in general?

Actually, the number of pages that will get pass to the second page will also be determined by the number of posters. Take for example if one page contains 15 posts, and there are say, 35 people posting, wouldn't it overflow to more than two pages?

Well, it is also true that not everyone happens to post in one particular thread at one time. Though you can't rule out for forums that are heavily active with thousands of members. Imagine having multitudes of people posting on one thread at one time. Perhaps it doesn't happen here, but we can't say such forum does not exist.

I mean, I read some of the posts on the second page. I don't see anything too wrong with it.

No point in posting in the second page because the op will not read it

In CD I tend to read all of the posts in a thread. I might reply before reading them all though. In other subforums I tend to read just a few posts in each thread unless it is a really interesting thread.
