| I was around 5 when Voltes V aired on local TV (damn I'm old). But I only started seeking anime (as opposed to just watching what's available) when I was maybe 17 or so. Then went full otaku til I got busy with work so I missed a lot of great shows :( |

I just know that I had seen Naruto, Pokemon, Bobobo-bobo, IGPX, You-gi-oh, Spirited away without thinking what anime was because I thought they were American cartoons |

| Around 8/10 years old. Surprisingly one of the first anime i watched, was gantz. There was this tv channel called Locomotion. I had no idea those shows were called anime and i loved it, eventually i found out about anime in general around my 14's and never stopped watching since then ♥ |

| Around 17 or 18 maybe. Did not know what anime was. There was this new channel called Animax that I saw on TV. My first show also happened to be the first episode of Getbackers. Loved it. Now in retrospect its not that good of an anime but still I like it, mostly coz of the nostalgia than actual quality. |

| like first time ever? probably when i was like 2? because my dad is obsessed with ghibli and sat me next to him while he was watching the movies and i remember enjoying the pretty colors on the tv so i'd just stick with him and enjoy whatever it was in front of me even though i didn't really understand what was happening but knowing it was anime? around 14-15 |

| Technically at 5 years old in 1992 when my mom rented me an obscure anime movie at the local video store, but actively at 12 years old. That's when my own tastes starting developing and I sought out bootleg anime off eBay after finishing whatever shows were on television then. People growing up in an era of anime being available whenever are really lucky, btw. |

As for when I started watching anime knowing what it was, it was when I was 18 years old, a freshman at college, and searching for late night TV to watch in my dorm room, when I happened upon Adult Swim back when much of that block was devoted to anime most nights of the week. |

| Similar reply to most here, was younger, probably 6 or 7 and watching stuff like Pokemon before I knew it was anime. Lol, used to watch Speed Racer on Boomerang or Cartoon Network, can't remember which. Started watching anime in earnest when I caught a Naruto New Years marathon event on Toonami. Edit: Funny enough, the Toonami wiki fandom page has a page on that marathon. It aired on December 31st, 2005, so I was 16 when I really got into anime. |
