Why don't we ever get to see Shouya's big sister?

Not once throughout the film do we see Shouya's big sister, Maria's mother's face. Even at the very end she's hiding her face behind Maria. The only other time we see her is when she asks Shouya to pick Maria up and he brings her to the park. Even then we only see her ankles. Any ideas?

Doubt it, author seems busy with Fumetsu no Anata e. But I've been wrong before.
I honestly don't remember seeing her face in the manga either. I own them, I should check.

Was she adopted? The ugly duckling of the family? Baby-out-of-wedlock?

Yeah I've seen this movie around 10 times ans I knew that I never saw her face but I was thinking that she might doesn't even matter because if you think about it she is in like 30 seconds max in the whole movie so they through that she isn't important enough even tho that's she's in the family, even tho that now that I'm thinking of it she is way important as a person (because she's maria's mother and close member of the family) in the movie and just because she has to do nothing with the whole movie (30 secs max) doesn't mean that they would care that less so they couldn't just make her face. So yeah there's might be something about it, I don't think that they will make a movie about her but maybe there is something hidden in the story about her like she's adopted or something like that

It's most likely because she's not important to the story itself. While she is the mother of Maria, she's not the one who takes care of her, and she doesn't look like she's home much.

she doesn't appear in the manga either, my hypothesis is that the author got lazy and didn't wanted to create a design for shouya's sister but she wanted to have a big sister and a loli in the story.

People are saying that she (the big sister) wasn't important to the plot, neither was her husband but yet, he have a face! I'm really curious why the author deliberately hid her face.

I don't think there is more to his sister. I haven't read the manga but a user above said she doesn't appear in manga so it makes sense why her face wasn't shown.

She isnt an important enough nor relevant enough character, i'm pretty sure sure has like 5 lines at least? It wouldve been a waste for Kyoani to spend money getting her a character design.

After I finished the film I knew I couldn't be the only one wondering about his sister. From her first appearance I was curious as to why her face was not shown. I assumed it would be relevant to the story at the end, but apparently not. Weird. There was clearly a decision made to not show her face and keep her out of the story for as much as possible, which makes no sense to me. Just plain weird to me.
