The 12th and final episode of Yakusoku no Neverland (The Promised Neverland) aired on Friday ended with an announcement that a second season for the anime series is in production. The new season is planned for a 2020 premiere.

Yakusoku no Neverland adapts Kaiu Shirai and Posuka Demizu's fantasy thriller manga of the same title, which began its serialization in Weekly Shounen Jump in August 2016. Shueisha published the 13th volume on March 4. The manga has a cumulative 10 million copies of its compiled volumes in circulation worldwide.

VIZ Media released the first three chapters of the manga in English in their digital Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, at the same time as Japan, as a part its Jump Start initiative before adding the series to its regular lineup. The company's new Shounen Jump service now publishes the manga simultaneously with its Japanese release digitally. The eighth volume went on sale on February 5, with the ninth volume scheduled for an April 2 release.

Yakusoku no Neverland was nominated consecutively in the 10th and 11th editions of the annual Manga Taisho award, as well as the 22nd Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize, and won the 63rd Shogakukan manga award for shounen manga last January. The series also placed first in male readers category in the 2018 Kono Manga ga Sugoi rankings.

Awesome news! Can’t wait to see the finale now! Expecting a total blast of an episode and a very infuriating, hence brilliant, cliffhanger to make the year long wait a deserved one.

I was thinking of giving the manga a shot but I guess I’ll refrain from doing so now, will probably read till 37-38 Chapters though just to have a feel for the manga counterpart.

Sequels galore at the moment and I’m desperately hoping to see a 2nd Season of Kaguya-sama: Love is War join in too. I’ll be over the moon if it does!

Not surprising considering the global success ! I'm glad they quickly decided to plan a new season for 2020... we won't have to wait 4 years like other popular anime I'll hide the name (hint : second season airs next month)...

Good news.
I've read into the the next chapters and will continue to buy the manga, can't wait for the anime to catch up. :D
Season 2 will still be exciting and far different from the first arc.

YESSS!! That's what I'm talking about! 12 episodes wasn't enough for a full adaptation and I kinda knew that this was going to get a second season.

That's great news, even if I expected it I certainly didn't think the announcement would come so soon.

I don't have patience ti'll 2020, so I'll continue reading the manga afterwards season 1, but I'm super excited anyways!!! I was so invested into the anime and it's story.
Help the industry and buy Blu-rays and DVD's.

Awesome, this isn't really surprising news considering adaptations of popular Jump manga tend to always get multiple seasons, but I'm looking forward to it.
I'm no special story or anything. I'm just a manga that wants to be read, like you could find anywhere. But, if, for argument's sake, you were to adapt me into an anime series, it would certainly be....a tragedy.

NOT much of a surprise, but I am still glad.
Go read the One Punch Man manga please, this awful adaptation by JC Staff is a disgrace.

HECK YEAH! Another Season!

Unfortunaly a manga reader spoiled a really big factor of what is going to happen in the second season so I will be waiting a year just to know what is going to happen!

STILLL Im ready and I will be ready the rest of the time remaining

Next season should hopefully be 2 cour, so they don't have to end it in the middle of an arc. It won't be as exciting as the first season, but I'm still looking forward to the next season.

Never before have I been happier at receiving news of a second season! That first one totally blew my mind with the quality of the suspense. It will be a great way to start the new decade :D

I drop it in episode 3. All his message revolves around generating empathy with a representation of livestock that has nothing to do with reality, this tries to be serious, but it seems to me more comedy that does not even become funny enough.

Sweet, another anime to look out for next year.
That 30 year old boomer that teaches paleontology during a hentai review on MAL. *sips*
Anime was indeed a mistake, since we prefer 2D waifu's over 3D wamen.

How do you find it funny?
The topic of the show is raising kids to be sold of to get eaten without them knowing. The only thing that even comes close to being funny is how high up their mouths are.
It's supposed to be a thriller and get your blood pumping, not generate empathy.
I have never thought of someone's opinion to be so bizarre in my life.

Oh wow, I mean I'm not going to say you're wrong just because it's your opinion, but I guess it wasn't for you then. It has a bit of comedy in it because of the kids. They had lead a very happy life before discovering the truth after all.

I didn't like the first episode or so either and that was because the mouths irrated me and nothing really happened, if I recall correctly.
Now I'm debating on what to set as my Favorite anime of the season and Yakusoku no neverland comes pretty close

that same thing is a thriller about cat-and-mouse game it's a battle of wit between the children and the woman caretaker, but that's all because the whole background behind it is not even remotely intelligent or philosophical, it's like mirai nikki.

Ooh, a two parts series for an adaptation...

How many books were covered with the first half-series, please?

@chloudei 5whole tomes in only 13eps?! Years ago, it would have taken ~ 20eps out of a full-length series (with 6 made-for-TV épisodes).
Not hard to believe there are différences.

@Gorochu Indeed... So many TV slots consumed by more épisodes for on-going adaptations rather than original projects. It's sad to live in those days...

I think the anime covered up to Volume 5: Chapter 37 "Escape". If anyone's planning to read the manga, I suggest reading from the very start since there are slight differences between the manga and the anime.
