On the second day of AnimeJapan 2019, it was announced at a special stage event that Shuuichi Asou's Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan series will have a Netflix original anime featuring newly animated scenes. Director Hiroaki Sakurai returns under the production of J.C.Staff and Egg Firm.

Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan originally launched as a one-shot in Shounen Jump NEXT! in August 2010. Weekly Shounen Jump published seven chapters between the 22nd and 50th issues in 2011 before serializing the manga regularly in May 2012. The series ended last February and was subsequently followed by a 4-koma manga and special chapters. Shueisha published the 26th and final volume on August 3 last year.

The anime's first season aired in Summer 2016, followed by a 24-episode second season, and a 50-minute TV special last year.

So it’s basicaly a remake with little modifications and so quick already? Now, that’s new! I wonder what exactly they’ll be covering this time around. If it turns out to be a 60-episode series(standard 24 mins per episode) for instance, it’ll be amazing!

Totally looking forward to this! I loved all of Saiki Kusuo and I honestly didn’t imagine we’d get more of it.

Netflix is really making some interesting changes every now and then, it’s honestly taken the anime industry by a storm imo. Netflix have been a part of many projects that go for complete adaptions and I hope this is another one of them. I’d totally love to experience through this all over again even if there are just little modifications to it!

This is - seemingly - the answer to all my recent prayers (I was literally wishing for more Saiki this morning) but if it's completely original material (?) I can't help but be somewhat nervous about the quality. Can anyone confirm?

But mostly? I'M EXCITED AS HECK!!!!

p.s. I really hope we get the special chapters animated!

Shounen Jump says that "episodes will be newly animated" so it's unlikely that it will be pure original but rather a part of their "Netflix Original" lineup.

Thanks. I guess it won't be 100% clear until more info or after the airing of the show itself. I just hope it retains the original series' quality without simply being a rehash with bonus material or the like.

As a Saiki K fan I'm not sure on this one.
The manga has been covered, so this will be original material, so 'shounen filler' very rarely a good thing, I am truly worried this won't be any good.

I hope it's based on some manga source (probably skipped chapters) and all the VAs will be the same. If it's completely new and original, I don't see the point...

Oi? I thought the saga of Saiki had already ended! Like some people said, i'm also not so sure on this one, but hey, more Saiki is always welcome. Hope that netflix won't do some kind of abomination tho.

I'm confused, is this the same anime with better animation or it's conpletely new?

I am looking at the stars.
They are so far away, and their light takes so long to reach us.
All we ever see of stars are their old photographs.

So,basically, they ordered a slightly re-adaptation only to label it "an original Netflix" product? I knew they were desperate to own their ... own (sorry) creations, but to reach this point ??

Really? I know they aren't producing as in "making" series, but I was certain that they were producing series since a few years (a year or two in the animation department), as in "funding" or "ordering" a project.

I can't say I'm surprised, they licensed the second season, and the series seems to be big on Netflix. This was just a step forward

It's probably an OVA of the extra Jump Giga chapters.
And for the last time: Netflix does not produce anime. They only license them.

Good to hear. Love this anime, though a lot of people who I have shown it to have said otherwise.

Netflix is taking a big risk, most of the anime for Netflix are safe bets (anime that will do good in the West and/or is anime that would only be popular outside of Japan), I don't think this is very popular outside of Japan and may be not be the best idea

The show has been on Netflix for quite a while and I'm sure they know better than anyone how much viewership it gets.

How many chapters are left to adapt? I hope there is enough content for something substantial.

Pretty sure the anime skipped chapters though.

anime skiped like 3/5 of content from the manga. they only adapt chapter that has some kind of "development". daily hijink is which most of the series chapter for is like 80% skipped. i would like aggretsuko treatment but on steroids with much more episode number.

so really, this is not strange at all from netflix, and they already has previous seasons. seems like it was more successful than we previously tough.

I don't understand...
I read it many times and I still don't get it.

This gonna have new original story?
Or this will be new animated scenes from manga?
I don't read manga, so I'm not sure if they skipped some parts in manga or not.

Somebody explain...
