Mentioning it casually is fine, people aren't usually that judgemental. Most people only react negatively if you shove it down their throats and consistently talk about it when it's uncalled for.
I'm not a lolicon, you're just projecting your tendency to lewd 2D characters.

If your favourite character is Tsutsukakushi Tsukiko, you are my soul mate.

Been a long time since I've been here, I'll continue expressing myself freely and believe everyone should too.

I usually don’t share it with everyone just for reputation reasons but if people know I’m a weeb I couldn’t care. Though I share my weeb side to all my fellow webs.

I usually don't mention anime unless the context arises, because it's usually not relevant at all. It's not even my primary hobby, anyway.

I don't mind dropping casual hints though, e.g. with what's on my keychain.

Actually, that has reminded me there is a hint after all in my case too, the ringtone of my mobile phone is the ending theme song of After the rain, Ref:rain by Aimer.

I don't ever do that. Only my best friends know my obsession with anime.

What weeb side? I don't irrationally glorify japan and japanese culture, I just anjoy watching anime.
I probably regret this post by now.

If the conversation topic calls for it sure. I don't hide my love for anime and Japan and Japanese culture~

But of course I do tone down how I show it depending on the person

I rarely initiate conversations in person, but if anyone else tries to make conversation, I almost immediately bring anime up. Hard to come by anime watchers here, so it's always pleasant to be able to have a conversation about it irl. I wouldn't consider myself much of a weeb though.
But even after all my efforts I don't have a single close anime-watching friend, which is kinda depressing :) Then again, two of my friends apparently watched Kimi no nawa a couple of days back, and want to watch more ..so I guess I've done a good job at "influencing" them :)

Is this just my low understanding skills at work, or is your comment full of contradictions? I mean, you said that you don't share it for 'reputation reasons' and then that you wouldn't be bothered even if people knew.. which one is it?

I never have problems bringing it up. Of course I'm not going to mention my weeb side without any context; I'm not socially awkward like that. If someone asks what I do in my spare time, though, I'll tell them up front. I'm not ashamed one bit. However, in the rare case that the conversation becomes awkward in any way, it sure helps to be able to tell them that I'm a composer who aspires to create soundtracks for anime and video games someday. xD

I like watching Anime and discussing certain Anime. People in my country are ignorant though. I have met a couple of Shonen fans in my country (Mainly Naruto), but nothing special . People in my country despise movies like The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and label liking it as cringe, so you would expect them to hate on Anime.

ya leave hints, and others with the same interests pick up on em, then the conversation can begin. For example, whipping out a wallet with batman's logo (or in my case Harley Quinn) lets people know that you might be into comics or movies without a word. Likewise I wear a ball cap with the Imperial Gear on it, leads to occasionally meeting new star wars fans. Finally, I'll wear something like the FMA Alchemist Cross on a necklace and other fans have then opened up with asking about anime.

Ya don't beat people over the head with it, ya let people know you know the secret handshake and then be patient. Those that get it, well, you know what you have in common. Those who wonder why there's a strange blonde woman with a bat printed on my wallet, don't get it, and I don't explain it.

I mention it if it's necessary, like if they ask me about my day and I watched anime that day, I will mention it. Avoiding mentioning I like anime is something I don't put too much emphasis on, and it's weird to me people literally avoid mentioning they like anime. It's a part of who you are, and what you enjoy, so why not express that? Why do you fear that side of you? doesn't make sense to me. It's like people are willingly admitting to being fake and closing off certain aspects about themselves just because they think being "nerdy" or into anime is so frowned upon. Just enjoy what you enjoy, and who cares if someone doesn't like it.

depends on how much i like them and how weeb or open minded they are
if im instinctly feeling connected and comfortable interacting with them, i would definitely, but not fully since first impression matters, and i would not try to be completely open to others, let alone exposing my weeb persona to them

No. I don't have a weeb side. I simply mention I enjoy watching anime during my pastime.

No nippon-cocksucking behaviour, because that classifies as being a weeb.

All weebs creatures of the galaxy, hear this message. Those of you who listen will not be struck by western animation. You will no longer know hunger, nor pain. Your Anime have come to lead you now. Our strength shall serve as a luminous sun toward which all intelligence may blossom. And the impervious shelter beneath which you will prosper. However, for those who refuse our offer and cling to their western animation ways… For you, there will be great wrath.

But I can't let anyone I know personally and see day to day witness how much of an otaku I am at home. I'm 27 and sleep with a body pillow and a Nico nesoberi plushie for fuck's sake.
