Why do some straight guys prefer yuri anime over anime about a guy and a girl?

I understand part of the appeal of yuri, but in the end, shouldn't straight guys find it much more attractive to watch an anime about a guy and a girl instead?
I have no problem if you like yuri. I'm just curious why you prefer it
The reason I've watched any yuri anime, at all, is because of the atmosphere, or entertaining characters; not because of the yuri aspect of it.

I don’t really have a preference (in terms of anime, not irl) I just like a good romance.

Some of my favorite romances thus far have been Toradora, Bloom into You, and Oregairu. So I’m down for straight or girls love, as long as it’s told good and the characters are appealing. Definitely don’t wanna watch any boys love cause it ain’t my taste, but nothing against it.

(Edit: I sort of already said this but to word it more directly, I like Yuri for the same reason I like a male x female romance, good story telling first of all, cute girls second of all.)

—sort of off topic—
Although despite boys love being a huge turn off for me, tbh I’d almost rather see Hachiman end up with the girly looking dude than see him pick Yukino or Yui because I don’t want to see them get hurt. I feel like If they both got passed up on it would be easier for them to move on then seeing the other go off with Hachi. Never been so torn on a love triangle I usually have a preference. This show is gonna be a sad one for me when it ends.
Lolicons are scum.
BABYMETAL is more metal than Metallica.
Naruto is objectively the best anime ever.
HxH 99' is decent. HxH 11' is bad.

I personally can't watch an anime with only boys OR girls in it, it has to be balanced otherwise I just feel uncomfortable. Tried watching Citrus, I can stand only 1 episode a month, just can't bring myself to watch it.

I really like Yukino and Yui, I don’t want to see either get hurt Q_Q they both have their own qualities.

Yuki is obviously more intelligent, arguably has more outright sex appeal, has a lonely sort of complex that makes you want to comfort her and much much more.

But Yui is more carefree and I think would be more fun to be around in general, and is a very kind hearted/soft spoken person. Plus she has a dog, as do I, and I friggen love doggos.

Iunno I like em both a lot and will be sad no matter how it ends.

Unless 3 way? Maybe? Maaaaybe? Naw.

As a guy myself, I can't help but say that I find myself more fond of GL compared to boy x girl.

I think it's just one of the kinks so to speak. Just like how some girls out there who enjoys BL far more than the typical "Shoujo" anime/manga.

That's what really bothers me about the yaoi/yuri tag. Why does a yuri have to take place in an all girls school? Where are the women in shounen ai anime? Where are the gay people in regular old anime?!

On topic, I can't really comment. As long as there's a good story, I don't care who's getting dicked.(or schlicked?)

Interesting. Because from a majority of romance fans' point of view, straight romance has plenty of that. I recommend Spice and Wolf.

That's what I don't understand: because shouldn't it be easier to self-insert into a guy instead of a girl, making love with another girl?

iasuru said:

I find it easier to self-insert into a guy and fantasize having a girlfriend...because I don't have a girlfriend in real life...
As for the femdom aspect, I don't know either. Years ago, I just liked femdom. Then I liked dominatrix outfits. Then I liked BDSM. Now I want femdom romance: the idea of being dominated by a girl who loves me, while cares gently for me is something I really like.

I mean, you could easily extrapolate this and ask why straight guys like lesbian porn. I personally never understood why, and I'm not really a fan of yuri either. If I'm watching a romance anime, I want to see a good wholesome show; I don't care about what gender the characters are.

That's true for some, yet you can still watch those to some extent. I increasingly not only become more aware about it but develop negative feelings, though. I can relate to the idea there's quite the difference between realizing what the stuff you watch says about you, or pretend there's nothing to infer from it and let yourself go unchecked deeper into the abyss.

Someone once pointed out that there are darker undertones to the fetish for a considerable portion of these guys. Primarily the subconscious belief that a homosexual relationship carriers far less seriousness and gravity compared to a heterosexual one. What does this entail?

Well,

1.) One is the M-F-F threesome fantasy. You already have two women. The guy thinks he can easily add himself to the mix.

2.) Second is that developing attraction for someone and then losing them to a lesbian hurts less than losing them to another dude.

Though, I'd argue there's a better underlying reason to the number two than people seeing homosexual relationships as less serious. That is, you don't see the lesbian as a competition as much as another male because heterosexual women are the majority. For demonstration's sake, let's say that out of all single available women you'd be attracted to in your locale, 90% are heterosexual. That means that the dude is your competition 90% of the time, not the lesbian.

Then again, that reasoning doesn't apply to fictional characters so number two holds somewhat, I guess.

There's also the delusion that girls' thoughts are purer that might play a part for a few guys. That is, that since the sex of the fictional character that likes the fictional character you're attracted to is female, then she's thinking of hugs, cute kisses, and hand-holding, not ravishing the girl over the kitchen sink and every other surface possible. Ergo, they'd consider the relationship pure and cute, not raging hormones and lust.

Most of the time though, it's just that they seem to have more effort and thought put into them than some dime-a-dozen heterosexual rom-coms.
