Kill La Kill. I'm gonna be straight here. This is just straight up porn, but the plot is pretty solid.

Highschool DxD. Im not gonna lie the ecchi was the reason I picked it up, but the plot started to interest me at some points of the story.

None, harems are always garbage unless the harem elements are subdued like in Monogatari or Steins;Gate

But idk, OP says ecchi/harem in the title but in the actual post he only mentions ecchi so what is this about? There's ecchi and many shows with that tag are still good, but if we're specifically talking about ecchi harems, there's no way I'd ever enjoy one of those tbh.

I don't think Punch Line was a harem and neither was Kill la Kill so I guess people are just listing ecchi and ignoring the harem in the title? In that case I'd second Kill la Kill (still dropped Punch Line even without harem elements cause it was just too stupid for me). I'd also add:

Golden Boy
Shimoneta
Monogatari
HenSemi
Dokushin Apartment Dokudami-sou
Video Girl Ai
Tenamonya Voyagers*
Shokugeki no Souma*
Panty & Stocking
Outlanders
No Game No Life
Nanatsu no Taizai*
Medaka Box*
Majo demo Steady
Lupin the Third: Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna
Kikoushi Enma*
Killing Bites
Keijo!!!!!!!!
Futari Ecchi

* I don't really see these as ecchi anime but they have the tag for some reason so I figured I'd mention them.

I also want to add 3 mistagged movies that have the hentai tag for some unexplained reason despite just being artsy movies with erotic elements:

https://myanimelist.net/anime/2755/Cleopatra
https://myanimelist.net/anime/3220/Kanashimi_no_Belladonna
https://myanimelist.net/anime/3038/Senya_Ichiya_Monogatari

Listen, everybody wants change, don't nobody want to change though
don't nobody want to pray, till they got something to pray for
now everybody's gonna die, but don't everybody live though

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry. The plot is good and there is no harem bullshit in it.
Kill la Kill as well.
Monogatari series is the best among them.

Best ones that I can think of right now are (if it can be either only ecchi, only harem or both and not only both):
1. Monogatari
(2. Steins;Gate if we consider it harem. I don't, but many people seem to do)
2. Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya
3. No Game no Life
4. Shokugeki no Soma
5. Shimoneta

None. I mean expecting to watch a series for the plot is pretty stupid. Harems are nothing more than a character eccentric genre. (Normal or reverse). Only because most (if not all) harems can't write a story to save its life. Instead watch it for the characters and how likable they are.

One of few good harems when it comes to plot and characters grows.

I do love watching harem for the fanservice or the girls too. But that's not the case with Ai yori Aoshi.

I always watch it for plot. I mean what else honestly. Same with another genre. I just find it weird that people don't believe or take it as a joke when you say that you watch harem for story or find the story to be good. Laughable generalization and blatant black sheeping honestly.

Also I'll proudly recommend Rokujouma no Shinryakusha to everyone that post in this thread. More so for the LN so that people know good harem exist by having coherent well though out and well planned story plus clear character that move along with story.

Naw, what's the point of watching a harem when you're focused on the plot.

It's pretty difficult, but the closest should be Seikon no Qwaser, I feel that the use of elements made a good counterbalance to the extreme ecchi. Harukana Receive showed really decent beach volley matches and were completely real, and the ecchi was pretty subdued and never interferred into.

I can't say the same for harems because if I watch a harem, it's obviously for the romance, since I'm a romance genre fan.

Yosuga no Sora (it's an ecchi right?)

Grisaia no Kajitsu and it's 2nd season (military, backstory and Impact)

High School DxD (season one) and Keijo are pretty much the only ones I can think of. I never expect a good story from a harem, but it is always a nice surprise when there is one.

What's the difference?

I have no idea why, but Trinity Seven is the only harem anime with a plot I enjoy and continue to follow via the manga. O.o
Life's too short to define it by mistakes.

Monogatari
Rakudai Kishi
NGNL
Grisaia
Nisekoi
Yamada-kun
Kaminomi

And then there's Trinity Seven and Strike the Blood, which really are pretty bad story wise, but I still somehow enjoyed them a lot.

Kill la Kill was fun. I sometimes forget it's an ecchi anime...which is weird, considering the whole plot revolves around revealing clothes and being nude.

I really enjoyed Harukana Receive from a few seasons ago. The soundtrack was an absolute banger. I enjoyed the characters more than I usually would. It just really didn't feel all that ecchi to me. Very enjoyable.

Demon King Daimou - A man aspiring to be a holy figure of righteousness is told he is destined to be the demon king. Super interesting plot, but sadly they don't do much with it. Worth a watch

Akame Ga Kill - Eh..... I mean theres at least some plot.

pokemon - my favorite harem
Words of wisdom (even though I’m an idiot):

Tomomi Ogawa best girl. Iroha Igarashi best anime girl.

Might Guy best guy.

Weed infinitely enhances the anime experience.

Oh yes indeed.

Kiddy Grade is one of my all-time favorite shows. I don't even agree with the ecchi tag on it because there's actually surprisingly little fanservice in the show (or if there's more of it it's subtle enough IMO).

Another show that I dunno why it has the ecchi tag, because there's rather little (or too subtle) fanservice, but I really liked it anyway, is Soukou no Strain. The story in this show is excellent.

I also really enjoyed Absolute Duo. The action, the plot, and the characters, are all quite fun. The soundtrack -- including but certainly not limited to its OP and EDs -- is super awesome. I almost dropped this show because I got fed up with the fanservice by the second episode, but I am glad I didn't. It was worth it.

And I wish Vividred Operation got rid of its obsession with butt shots, because they really make no sense in context, and you could entirely remove them and have a great story. I watched it all, and aside from said butt shots (and the ridiculously-short-shorts clothing in general), I really enjoyed the show -- while it starts off a bit unconvincing, the story definitely becomes convincing in later episodes. Also, character-wise, Rei is arguably Homura done right.

I'm surprised Akashic Records of Bastard Magical Instructor isn't listed as ecchi, because I would personally count it as such because of the clearly fanservice-intended female school uniform design. (Yes, I know that some people will tell me "but ecchi means that the fanservice is a major point of the show", to which I'd reply by pointing to Kiddy Grade and Strain, where fanservice certainly isn't anywhere near a major point.) But looking past the fanservicey uniforms, as well as the lead character's initial bouts of lechery (which are rather clearly intentional attempts on his part to lose his job), this has a surprisingly engaging story. I just wish the show didn't just end after one cour, since there's obviously more to the story, knowing what it's adapted from, and even simply watching the cliffhangy plot thread teasers at the end.

Another example of a show that's an adaptation that just ended in one cour after the first part of said adaptation finished, is Lord Marksman and Vanadis. This one is marked as ecchi, and it's obviously because the war maidens all have noteworthy racks and otherwise don't mind using their bodily charms to get Count Vorn's attention, but I really don't care about that part beyond the characterization. I just love it when they -- and the main character -- kick ass, strategically and in direct combat. The setting is also pretty intriguing.

Meanwhile, Yosuga no Sora is a show I have a surprisingly high opinion of. Unlike basically all the other shows I've listed here (except maybe Kiddy Grade where Éclair's occasional sense of exhibitionism is just a manifestation of her personality), I actually didn't feel the sexuality was out of place, and instead, feel that the show handled it quite fittingly, in part because it really was meant to be about sexuality and sexual romance, so it got to focus on these things rather than using fanservice as convenient window dressing to attract an audience. This show is very, very focused on the emotional implications of the characters' relationships, and has an excellent sense of atmosphere. (I conveniently ignore the omake.)

I think I dropped this after an episode because the fanservice got too stupid. Does it get better?

I definitely "stay for the plot" (or atmosphere/character interactions/etc.), though what gets my attention first is sometimes having character designs I like -- for example, that's why Chivalry of a Failed Knight got on my radar.

Some titles from the top of my head.

harem + ecchi anime: Tenchi Muyou! Ryououki all OVAs, actually Tenchi is in the middle of a very complicated politic situation. The worldbuiding is unexpectedly complex describing a sci-fi + fanasty multiverse.

harem + ecchi manga: Mahou Sensei Negima! and UQ Holder! - yes the anime adaptions are bland and horrible (except those Shaft OVAs) but the mangas are really good. If you ignore the blatant fanservice - the story is interesting, the worldbuiding is extremely complex, the power system is unique and they have the best and most epic magic battles I have ever see.

ecchi anime: Yuusha ni Narenakatta Ore wa Shibushibu Shuushoku wo Ketsui Shimashita. - it has nice story, interesting magic system and quite realistic social situation (if magic was real tho)

PS
I think we can qualify Golden Kamuy as harem too. lt. Tsurumi (the antagonist) has a lot of admirers under his command.

Yeah I think the same thing, but I really liked the story so I thought I should mention it (with MAL giving it the ecchi tag). Most of the fanservice is subtle and are just small things. The fanservice was still good tho.

Oof I actually enjoy ecchi and harem but if we are talking about anime that I like not only for the tiddies and gals then:

Zero No Tsukaima
No Game No Life
Monogatari series
Shokugeki no Souma (I don't count it as Ecchi/Harem but many of you do)
Sword Art Online (I don't count it as Harem bc MC is engaged with the gal since first episodes but many of you do)
High School DxD

Keeping in mind the rest that have already been mentioned...

For manga :

Jitsu-wa watashi wa.

Technically a harem but it wowed me as someone who simply hates that harem garbage. Great cast of characters although, I don't know if the plot was troll or not, given how nicely it transitions between really serious and really funny. I honestly can't tell :P

For anime :

Akiba's Trip. (word play on Akiba Strip)

Ecchi show about ripping enemy clothes off to defeat mutants/vampires. Oddly enjoyable given the over the top action and comical setting.

Quintessential Quintuplets is also a really good harem. The anime is good but I recommend binge reading the manga, also try the manga Misaki no Umi. Good harem.

What I watched: Lord Marksman and Vanadis / Madan no Ou to Vanadis

What I expected: "hey look! Hot girl with giant boobies! hey look! Another hot girl with giant boobies! hey look! More hot girls with giant boobies!"

What I got: Chronicles of the Military and Diplomatic Accomplishments of Count Tigrevurmud Vorn, vol. I

(Seriously, Tigre ended up being my favorite character in that series.)

I'm gonna take some liberties with the intent of this thread and just list all of the ecchi and hentai that I like for reasons that don't directly involve sexuality.

Agent AIKa: Story.
Bible Black: The hilariously bad English dub.
Elfen Lied: Gore and dismemberment.
Freezing: Fight scenes and dismemberment.
Golden Boy: Comedy.
Highschool of the Dead: Fight scenes with zombies.
Ikkitousen: Fight scenes and characters.
Kite: Gore.
Mahou Shoujo Ai: Rape as Drama.
School Days: Nice boat.
