For me i guess you could say i started off with the same-old pokemon, yu-gi-oh, beyblade, dragon ball until a winter night a couple years back when i watched To Love-Ru because i was bored and my friend had talked a good amount about anime in school that I tried it out one night since i found the episodes online and from that point on have stayed hooked

Detective Conan, One Piece and Dragonball Z were my OGs in the early 2000s and continued watching the weekly episodes of One Piece.
I am basically watching anime for the entirety of my life.
Pokito on RTL II was the real shit back in the days.

Should've changed Bleach to Pokemon...

I was always into cartoons overall and one day my good friend showed me the good ol anime tidies, in that case, being high school of the dead, and I was hooked up with it, afterwards he showed me k-on and mayo chiki and to this day these are the 2 genders that I mostly watch, ecchi and cute girls doing cute things

It was Cardcaptor Sakura for me, after Cartoon Network stopped airing it I kept on searching for similar content and came across Animax where I just happened to see a PV of CCS while switching channels, ended up getting hooked on to anime ever since.

I think the first one was Pokemon. I loved it! But Sailor Moon was the downfall because I started to buy anime magazines and here we are lol

Samurai Champloo.

Before that, it was just a few bad experiences (wouldn't be able to name any specific shows though, might have suppressed those memories) and some Ghibli stuff, but I regarded that as yet another cartoons (although awesome ones!) and not anime.

Before I watched Death Note three years ago I didn't really understand what anime was and because of that had a distorted opinion about it. That series really intrigued me and caused me to look for more interesting anime (although the second one I watched was SAO... Meh, I thought the first arc was good).

Saw stuff like Pokemon on TV when I was around 8 but never really got interested in it, then in 2015 someone recommended Fairy Tail and Attack on Titan to me. I watched a lil bit of AoT and found the titans too disgusting to watch so I switched to Fairy Tail and it quickly hooked me (watched 100 episodes in a week). So it's been about 3 and a half years now... time really flies.
currently: doing my best!

I died and was reincarnated into an anime. In the anime, 2-D thots threw themselves all over me like a harem protag. In real life, 2-D anime girls don't even exist. So I decided to stay here. That's how I got into anime.

I used to watch Yugioh, Pokemon, Naruto, Digimon and the like during the mornings, but that was kind of before I even understood what anime as a medium was.

Later on, when I was about 13 or so there was this late night anime program on TV that showed dubbed anime, and that's what truly got me into the medium. I remember it had Kuroshitsuji, Beck and Cowboy Bebop. Those were good times, I miss them ;_;

As crazy as it might sound, it was actually because I was interested in the animation aspect of it. I do graphic design as a hobby so I got super into art and animation. Your Name looked really good so I thought I'd give it a watch...I instantly fell in love. It touched me in a way I didn't think was possible. So I kinda just starting watching more anime because I really liked the art form.

Still being a relatively new watcher, it just excites me that's there's so much more good anime that I haven't gotten to yet.

As for most people, I watched whatever was on TV so like Pokemon, Sonic X, Dinosaur King, and so on, but I didn't really understand the concept of anime. My friend showed me High School of the Dead when I was in middle school I think for the fanservice of course. You know, big ol anime tiddies. Anywho, a couple years would pass before I started watching entry level anime like FMA, SAO, AoT, Ouran, and so on. I didn't watch that many until my sophomore year of college when one of my friends in the Super Smash Bros club showed Yuru Camp to all of us and I was hooked. That was a little over a year ago now and I am really getting into it.

Kill la Kill basically. Basically.

Why don’t we become monsters and really mess up this awful world? Just destroy until there’s no more evil, no more sadness, no more anything…
Wouldn’t that be great?

I've never even thought about it before stumpling across this thread. ^^

It would be easy to say that is was something down the line of 'Arupusu no Shōjo Haiji' or 'Furandāsu no inu' airing on TV in the late 80s. But that wouldn't be quite right - because even watching those series never coined the term 'Anime' for me. Even 'Saber Rider' and similar shows that aired later in the early 90s were received by me as 'cartoons' in a unconventional style. And nobody used the term 'Anime' for them neither...

I guess the first thing that really brought me into the realm of Manga and Anime was when I laid hand on the first 5 or 6 issues of the german translation for 'Akira' by Carlsen - some time around 1992/93 I guess.

Just to give some feedback from a different generation than most here. ;)

I watched Sailor Moon and Pokemon growing up, but I didn't really get into anime as a genre until I read the Ruroni Kenshin manga as a kid. I was hooked from that point on. I used to read all my older brother's manga, even the shounen manga series I wouldn't care for today. That got me into manga, and for anime, it was Cowboy Bebop that got me hooked.

Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Tsubasa and original Dragon Ball were all popular when I was child, I remember watching them randomly on TV. My brother was really into Sailor Moon, I didn't see why he liked it then.

Ōban Star-Racers was the first anime I watched properly. Then Elfen Lied.

One day out of boredom I decided to DragonBall series and that was mid 2017. once I was caught up with DragonBall super I decided to watch more animes but I was only able to watch death note. And for 9 months I only watched dbs weekly but when dbs ended in March 2018. I decided to watch more mainstream animes and the one which I first watched was my hero academia. I instantly fell in love with the show and after finishing it I decided to watch more and more animes and here I'm now after having completed 30+animes.
