A lot of focus on Kylie this episode. It's neat to actually see some of her past and how she lived her life.

While the episode didn't have much aerial dogfighting compared to some of the others, it did manage to have an emotional appeal.

Kirie screwed up, seems like her hatred for whoever is flying that aircraft is bigger then her sense of responsibility.
It was nice to see a bit about her past tho.

Anyway the person she hates is a good pilot seeing as he/she just managed to hit the engine, it was clear he/she was trying to avoid combat and didn't wan't the hit Kirie.

Soo... The dogfight was porn, even by Kotobuki standards. Simply amazing.

The plot was pretty cool too, we've not only got to learn more about Kylie, but the world itself, like what are Japanese WW2 era fighters doing in wild west setting. A lot of potential there.

Damn, that pilot is a genius. It's no wonder Kirie couldn't defeat that mysterious pilot!

Then again, I wonder if that pilot is either Ol'Sab or that guy in a black suit who offered Ol'Sab to make weapons again?

Awesome episode.

Kirie is so lovable. <3

The dogfight was super awesome, loved the almost first person angles we had for the whole thing. Super cool.

Nice to see a little of Kirie's past and her relationship with Sab-jii. Little Kirie was also adorable. <3
Loved the sequence where Kirie finally took off after getting her plane to start again. Final scene with her reuniting with the other pilots was heartwarming. :)

So this is basically an 'inter-dimensional' spaghetti western with planes, featuring a political conflict between a titty pseudo-ancap and a big-state magician...and pancakes.

Looks like whoever shot Kylie down is her match, Ol'Sab, humm I guess we now know who gave her inspiration to fly.

so wait did the old dude actually die or did he just fly off into the sunset never to be seen again

i thought it was the latter in which case seems kinda rude to make a grave for someone who's not actually dead

Saba-jii was pretty old when Kylie was a kid, and he didn't exactly seem to be in great shape. It would really be something if he was the on flying that plane.

Also, how did she manage to land at that place? It's not as if someone could have crawled into her plane and landed it for her.

I am guessing "Yufang" is supposed to be Earth perhaps? They mentioned aircraft carriers on the ocean in stead of in the air, and supposedly the people from Yufang built all of the planes, then left through a hole and the hole disappeared.

It's kind of like The Familiar of Zero....or a movie with Kirk Douglas about a 1980s era Nuclear aircrafter carrier being sent back to just before Pearl Harbor.

I wonder what exactly that hole is, maybe writers want to tie it to the hollow earth theory. Given the settings wich uses WW2 planes it'd make sense, since hollow earth used to be popular around those times.

Very interesting. So many proper nouns in this episode and the series in general. It would be useful to compile a list of all the mentioned places and some notes about each, but serious effort. It would be nice to see the little details of the world building anyhow.

I wanna know more about Sabu. It was weird how they mentioned him coming through a hole. Really don't know what to think of that. Someone mentioned some hallow earth theory based on WW2 era stuff which I know nothing of, but I wonder: is it really going to be something so strange. There's a chance Sabu could be the pilot Kirie is so obsessed with but idk.

And man those were some killer camera angles in that dogfight. Using the power of CG for good.

Honestly this is the most underrated show this season, not a lot of people are watching this. The CGI planes and dogfights are amazing compared to most CGI stuff in other anime.

Especially this episode's chase sequence was bravo. The physics and camera angles are killer.

Also we got Kylie's past and motivations, this is what was kind of missing from the previous episodes, now that we are getting these it's going to be great. Hope Kylie meets Sabu-jii in the future.

Ah, so what this is, is an isekai. Where Imperial Japan Connecticut Yankee'd the place to a certain extent apparently.

I'm surprised none of the girls considered the possibility Kirie stole the money to buy pancakes

That clarifies things for me. Personally, I like regulation and licenses, but if an oujo says otherwise who am I to disagree?

I don't want to be that guy, but for the record 20th century people didn't believe that unless they were fringe believers in pseudoscience. Hollow earth was out of date by the 1780s.

So we get an episode dedicated to Kylie's story this time. While that's nice to see it unfortunately doesn't do much to make me like the character. Kylie's childish behavior(along with Chika) continues to get on my nerves, this episode pretty much showing why.

You're thinking of the 1980 film The Final Countdown featuring the USS Nimitz, an interesting and honestly cool movie but with a disappointing ending.

That pilot that fought Kylie is smurfing. Definitely a high tier player that queued up with his/her friends just so he/she could play on the low tier and pawn some noobs.

And i'm glad they gave more information about the world so that fans could actually start making theories.

A little backstory. So Kylie had a kind old man as a friend years ago. I think the old man burned down his own house and went away to protect her.. because it's possible the guy who was asking the old man to do something might start target loli Kylie. Sad she had to lose her friend, maybe they meet again someday.

Still a mystery who is the pilot who shot down Kylie. Same person from episode 1?

And lastly, that takeoff from the cliff had me so nervous... good thing she remembered what the the old man teach her years ago.

Kylie's character design and personality remind me of Asuka from The Girl in Twilight. Although Asuka wasn't quite as big of a PITA.

Yeah, Asuka was at the very least tolerable. Kylie though... ugh, there are times you just wish she shut the hell up and other times you just want to reach into the screen and slap her silly.

I actually thought the airplane from which Kylie took the part to repair her own airplane was the one with which the guy flew off and went here to kill himself but idk if that really is the case

This episode was good, the dog fight, the plot and I like it that we get to know more about Kylie, we found out more about her past.

Kylie's actions seem pretty risky. At the beginning it could be a tough call whether to give chase or keep a lookout for a while - or wait to be taken out by surprise. But later she probably should have pulled away.

Then again, she isn't in this for the money or even the glory, instead to learn about her world? She might be such a free spirit she doesn't even value her own life enough. So yeah she's gonna be the central character in the end.

I love the music in this series, esp this episode. reminds me of watching a sergio leone film...except with fighter planes instead of horses & revolvers 😅
and the creaks and pops coming from the planes’ superstructure & control lines always amazes me. its the details y’know? 😎

Was a nice episode, great to have a change of pace and gets some other tastes of aspects of aviation.

I really like Kirie's total lack of concern or fear. Strong and pure, and bubbling with energy~. Sure can be a bit noisy, but she's a free spirit, happy, and no bs.

the rest was kind of nice, so i'll watch some more lol

The fact that the narrative has become more interesting, without the usual air battles, is to the benefit of the anime series. Wow, I did not think it could improve the narrative scheme, I'm satisfied!

Well, I have to say I'm glad Reona acknowledged she was imprudent during the dogfight in the previous episode.

Regarding this episode... Kirie almost got herself killed... again. Honestly, I really can't understand how she managed to survive since she was about to crash directly into a cliff. Not to mention that she also managed to somehow land her damage aircraft without her even remembering a thing like what?...

That said, it was nice to know more about her past and her reason to fly but in general, I didn't find this episode focus on her that much interesting.

P.S.: Kirie please, it's not good to be so friendly with strangers you find unconscious in the desert.

They do a break time here, using the chance to tell more back story to our heroines. This time, we get a Kylie backgrounds. After some personality revelations to Zara and Leona, Kylie backs must be the best so far. Because, yeah, its Kylie loli to presented! Since the past, it seems the world was pretty messed up. Too much wasteland make me wonder, what is goin on in the past making all of the world land like that? Even no lake or sea marks make the world-building pretty much interesting to dig in. However, i believe, this show can't do much to explain what happen, because yeah, lack of duration.

To me, its good to see some more detail of the world. Especially using the free time of fly to backing up some past story to the MC, Kylie. Its a good decision, amazing direction, and well paced after what happen previously. It seems the next episode mostly added more background story again to the MC. I just hope the rest showing more dogfights action, and leave the drama behind. Because, yeah, its obvious to seeing more action for these kind of show. Rather showing some lack story telling, without even realise the real intentions.
