I bring this up because Fruits Basket is basically doing it all over again, and actually following the manga. If you could have a reboot of any show, which one would it be and why?

I love Elemental Gelade, my "gateway anime", but the anime was greatly different from the manga. I believe this is because the anime was created and aired early into the manga's run, so the two's story-lines branched away from one another waaaay too soon. Not to mention the tone differences between the two. The anime was friendly to preteens and up, but the manga was notably darker. It wasn't Berserk levels of dark or anything, but there was a hecka lot more blood and mature themes in there. All in all, I loved this series, but the anime does need a lot of improvements, especially a storyline that's more faithful to its source material.

I said it in another thread, and i'll repeat the same here as well. Battle Angel Alita. That ova cannot satisfy me. Not at all. Despite we are having an magnificent LA an anime would be perfect. Can't wish for more. A good adaptation by a good studio "AHEM" Madhouse...

Flame of Rekka. The original anime had a decent enough stopping point if I recall correctly but there was still an arc or two from the manga that wasn't adapted. But mostly this choice is motivated by how awesome the tournament arc would be if picked up by the right studio.

Obviously berserk. Only thing the 2016/2017 adaption did right were casting the voice actors and getting susumu hirasawa to create the soundtrack.

Like 99.9% of the other fans of the manga, obviously Tokyo Ghoul. It's super rushed and didn't even have good animation as consolation.

I would like a remake of the following series.

1) Monster - Great story. Would be even better with new animation and more compact number of episodes.
2) Kindaichi Case Files - With the old animation style, it's a bit hard to relate to the crime scene and feel some tension
3) Ajin - Need better animation. People were just mannequins with movable eyes

OF COURSE IT WOULD BE KATEKYO HITMAN REBORN.

They only cover for the first half of the manga and I would love to see the interaction of Giotto and Cozarto prior to starting their own famiglia and the later generation which is Tsuna and Enma.

100% totally agree with you hahaha, I enjoyed dispite all the BS but you know that the adaptation is an insult to the manga.

I wasn't aware of how different the manga was compared to the anime, that is interesting to know. I still enjoyed the show and it's end tho, but it felt safe.

Same! And the only best girl in the series wasn't in the anime.

I also like Slam Dunk and the final arc in the manga to be animated.

Complete reboot with Black Swordsman and Golden Age. 1997 as standalone is good, but has its weaknesses as part of a series: Introduction of the Skull Knight and other characters or the unsatisfying resolution of the eclipse.
I would love to see the Lost Children Arc, where Guts is at his lowest point, or the omitted chase by Wyald(which would've taken away from the eclipse, but since at this point we pretty much all know about it, might as well just add it in).

Monster was a really good adaption without much flaws and you can't really cut down the episodes without watering it down.

For Ajin it's kinda strange, I really hate cgi(berserk s2 and overlord s3 are prime examples for bad cgi and censhorship) but except for the first few episodes I never had any issue with the cgi of Ajin and it even felt right at some point that it was done in full cg.

Even if it's not too popular it had one of the best(if not the best) bad guys in any anime. x)

Gunnm ofc, or rather a proper adaptation, given that the OVA is a shortened Vol.1-2 thing.

@FrozenLich I think Urasawa is pretty anal about being adapted panel by panel (why would anyone want that is beyond me tho as obviously manga aren't drawn and planned with animation in mind).

@Kelraz Monster is filled to the brim with repeated flashbacks, filler episodes and the same 3-4 narration gimmicks (there has to be an off-screen gunshot every other advertising break). That's hardly what I'd call straight to the point >.> There's at least a dozen eps of screen time that simply weight down the story.

@Thatrazorguy ever read Mother Sarah? Best mechanical designs ever, ex-aequo with Gunnm (the scenario however... Lets say it's forgettable)

I wouldn't mind a full adaptation of Akira, though obviously it wouldn't be in the form of a film due to the length.

Can't say I have, though I'll make a note to give it a read.

Ofc there are a few things which can be cut but it's not like you can cut it down to a 3-4 cour anime. Hell even 60 episodes would miss out a lot of stuff. You can maybe cut out 5-6 episodes(~2hours) overall but that's it.

Nowadays it would all be stuffed into 24 episodes, so just feel lucky that it's no the case for monster. ;)

@Kelraz I'me fine with the 24 eps format tbh, that's more than enough for lots of shows to explore their themes left, right, up and down and still have some more left for a mind-boggling Gainax ending >.>

It wouldn't work for monster at all it's a veeerrrry slow show which gets its fastination out of the character/world building. If you cut it into 24 episodes not a single person(even we who watched it) would understand a thing. xD

But tbh it would worth it to watch just to get a good laugh. xD And the reviews would be godlike to read xP
