Hmm, interesting to see how doctors work in this show. I mean, some are no doubt talented.

A rather emotional episode. In their world, anything is possible including getting their own body in the process. The storytelling of this show flows really well imo.

Backstory of Hyakkimaru and the doctor!
Very touching. Can't wait for Hyakkimaru to get more of his body parts/senses back.
Dororo and MP100 are easily top shows for me this season.

Hyakkimaru just seems to be really strong. It was even said that he possessed superhuman strength in one of the episodes IIRC.

Great episode.

We finally learnt how Hyakkimaru grew up and gained the prosthetics he currently has.

I understand how angry the doctor's original apprentice was but for him to lash out like that on a man trying to redeem himself seems a little cold albeit understandable.

The doctor and Hyakkimaru's goodbye was quite touching. Hope they meet again. :(

Ah, I'm so satisfied with this re-adaptation. If this keeps up, this show may be my anime of the year.

I absolutely LOVED the gray scale throughout the flashback. They're paying homage to Tezuka, I really appreciate that.

One negative point, though, is that I'm not a huge fan of the animation. It is a bit inconsistent, but I don't really mind it. I guess it is to be expected since some of the other works by MAPPA also have this issue.

I loved the way the episode was almost monochromatic at the start, but gained more and more colours by the end.

The flashback was beautiful. I feel sorry for the boy who worked for the doctor. It felt like he could not decide whether to love him or hate him. Experience makes the boy love the one that saved him, but knowledge says he should hate him for killing his parents. I guess this counts as a cognitive dissonance?

We finally learnt more about Hyakkimaru.

Hyakki was so cute when he stepped on the fire the second time as if to test it. Lol.

Very good backstory. The doctor repenting forever for his past by helping everyone in need.

Only to get shellshocked that he killed the parents of the kid he saved and worked with for years, that had to hurt for both of them.

That farewell scene between Hyakkimaru and the doctor was emotional, Hyakkimaru was truly grateful.

Great episode!

Thankfully, Hyakkumaru had a fatherly figure and that bittersweet goodbye was just so depressing. Hyakkumaru had been seeing that flicker of light(of the Doc’s) for as long as he could remember I’m sure, and knowing that he couldn’t say anything nor feel the Doc’s skin during their final moments was even more crippling.

Anyway, wonderful backstory here! The Doc’s backstory while working for the Empire was crude I must say, the manner in which he grabbed the rebel by the hair and then consequently tortured him was painful to watch. I wonder why he was met with immense regret when the female there was stabbed though, could it be that he thought only the actual fighters were in the wrong and kept spoon-feeding himself with lies of that sort? This, however, turning out to be his apprentice’s father and then that surge of anger from the apprentice was, again, very understandable and saddening. Hyakkumaru then appeared in his life and the fatherly treatment that he gave to Hyakkumaru was very pleasing to see! Hyakkumaru’s apparently got a strong power and will to survive, god this hurts. Damn, that scene of Hyakkumaru regaining his humanly leg there though. He was clearly in pain there(or was it just shock?) but that’s one part regained out of the twelve, on a positive note. As of Episode 3, I think we’ve seen him regain 3 of his body parts so far, namely skin, spinal cord(or the back) and then a leg, and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing him regain more!

These 3 episodes have been great, here’s to hoping the following episodes to come will be just as delightful to watch too!

He was talking about creating the prosthetic arm for the boy who had come to him the day before (lost his arm after some samurai had cut it off).

Wow, this might be my favourite episode so far. It was really emotional and it broke my heart to see the way Hyakkimaru lived compared to his brother. I hope his dad dies a painful death and spends eternity in hell... piece of shit.
This is one piece of genius story telling and the characters are brilliant too! All hail the Mangaka!

Great episode.

The directing and the atmosphere of this anime continue to amaze me. So good.

Flashbacks to how Hyakkimaru met Jukai and how everything started. So Jukai gave him his name. I wonder if we will ever see the kid that left Jukai because he killed his father ever again.

well the author is none other than Osamu Tezuka, he is widely considered the father of manga revolution in japan. So yeah that's what you get from a legend.

I might be mistaking but during the parting scene when Dororo is looking at Jukai, I think the silhouette is not completely grey, I believe I could see blue drops flashing in his head. Which is... something, if that is true.

Jukai was talking about the same boy, but about the younger him whom he met and helped with a leg prosthesis back then.

This episode was mostly backstory.

We learn about Jukai, the doctor that makes prosthetics for dead soldiers. Boy did he have a rough past. The guy he worked under was truly awful. Jukai gets a chance to redeem himself and starts helping the sick and injured. It’s a shame that apprentice of his couldn’t forgive him.

Over time, Jukai found baby Hyakkimaru and fixed him up. He more or less ended up raising him. I hope they get to meet again one day soon. As much as he’s done and been through, Jukai deserves some happiness.

And now it seems that Hyakkimaru has his sense of feeling back. I guess that can kinda be a bad thing since he has a weakness now.
Can’t wait for the next episode!

He does not, the series is said to be at least 15 episodes, according to that probably 24-25 as a two season animated series.

I read on it will be a 24 episodes in total on Wikipedia (maybe 2 cour of 12), so it's most likely an accurate information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dororo

The manga itself doesn't have the 48 demons so it wouldn't be easy to do in the anime series. Can't deny I wished for more but it's better than having just 12 as the majority of anime series have these days. XD

Great episode so far! I truly am enjoying this series! It's a wonderful gem in between of this generation anime style. My favorite anime this season for sure!

hm, some Hyakkimaru and Jukai backstory. actually, this was more of Jukai episode than Hyakkimaru, so the author clearly wants us to feel a deep connection with him
tho, his suicide attempt was strange (?). after seeing someone's wife die he got a breakdown? or maybe it was building up in him all that time?

anyways, kinda interesting to see what they have in plan for Jukai to dedicate a whole episode to him

In this episode Hyakkimaru has been shown to have killed his first demon long ago. We don't know what body parts he already has - we saw him get his leg during his childhood with Jukai.
