| Neon Genesis Evangelion if you haven't watched that. It's not very bloody or extreme in terms of visuals, but it's very psychological after the twist and it definitely makes you rethink some stuff in life. (But if you're not into mecha ofc) Maybe Elfen Lied, I don't know how much thinking it requires, but it's definitely edgy. |

| Tatakau Shisho: The Book of Bantorra Berserk: Ougon Jidai-hen I - Haou no Tamago Berserk: Ougon Jidai-hen II - Doldrey Kouryaku Berserk: Ougon Jidai-hen III - Kourin Mo Dao Zu Shi (starts off very light and childish but just give it some time and it's very dark) +1 Claymore& Shigurui But if they will make you rethink life? Who knows. Maybe but I doubt it. |
| Subete ga F ni Naru is pretty dark and especially thought provoking. This focuses around 1 Murder, and a lot of well written dialogue, which is why its so thought provoking. maybe Made in Abyss, pretty damn Dark and could possibly be somewhat thought provoking too. ah and Puella Magi Madoka Magica, incredibly dark and messes with your mind dont let the cutesy Art Styles from the latter two distract you. Its messed up stuff. |

I know I dont like mecha either but just watch it i promise Berserk 1997 is also great and one of my favs. Shinsekai Yori no one has mentioned but it is amazing and fucked up. Serial Experiments Lain if you want something though not actually violent but will legitimately fuck with your mind. Madoka Magica is also pretty essential. And Elfen Lied is an edgy teen classic so just watch it for funsies. |
