Okay so there's this challenge
(Ap.06) Watch an anime by a studio you haven't seen anything from

So I was looking at Production_IG, the first studio I randomly clicked on. I haven't seen anything from it, except for maybe a few random clips of Attack on Titan? From YouTube and all that.
Would that count as "haven't seen anything from" or no? Because technically I saw something.

It means you can't have any anime from a studio as 'Watched/Completed' in your list

so if you never actually watched Attack on Titan, then it's alright.

You're definitely going to like Barakamon. It's one of the best slice of life I've seen. It has a summer vibe that's really nice. It could also be useful for challenge 16. See which one suits you best.
Edit: Haha, I almost forgot to tell you, the MC, Handa Sei, is a professional calligrapher. The child I'm talking about for challenge 16 is Kotoishi Naru.

On the other hand, will Usagi Drop work for the 16th challenge (human child MC)?

ahah thank you, I already picked Barakomon for another entry, but I think I'll switch it to this one.

Considering you have SnK listed with a 2017 date, and last updated last year, it will be invalid if you use that studio

I can't find an exact age for Dororo, but most places refer to him as a kid or a young thief and having watched the show, I think that it would be valid.

Just remember that if you choose to watch a seasonal you can't start the next difficulty tier until you have completed all 20 of the Novice items, so this might hold you back a little.

Quick clarification please.

Would Saber count as human? Or not since ,"Heroic Spirit",mythological "King Arthur", and all that... Would be great for non Japanese human character, if she counts.

Also, do college age people count as Adults?? In the US 18 plus is considered a legal adult, but just in case, I want a clear answer for the challenge. Later seasons of Free! and the other long running anime could be used for the over half being adults if it does.

Sorry if those questions were already asked.
Thanks!!

Could I get a recommendation for Ap. 29 please?

(Ap.29) Watch an anime recommended to you in the challenge discussion thread

If possible could I get something that aired in the 90s that's not already in my PTW?

Taken from the sign up thread:
they should be 18 years old or older (you should be able to find a source for this; doesn't need to be stated on MAL)

So yes, you can watch Free! when they're in college :)
Totally recommend ;)

edit: Haru's age is mentioned in the wikia: http://free-anime.wikia.com/wiki/Haruka_Nanase

For I.15 Watch an anime with a non-humanoid main character — state the character; can't have physical resemblance to humans (like human hands); e.g. Pikachu, Totoro, Kyuubey, Sakamoto and Monokuma are valid; Piccolo and Ryuk would be invalid; excludes humans/animals/etc that transform into the other (like Arima, Ahiru):

How would this work for characters that might be considered more human-like (but not necessarily humanoid), such as Lucario and Renamon? (Fortunately Jynx isn't a main character.)

Also, the transforming exclusion - would it apply to, say, Patamon and Tailmon* (who digivolve into the distinctively-more-humanoid Angemon and Angewomon)?

On another point, for item I.13 Watch a completed anime scored 4 or less from an anime challenge team member

* edit was to correct Angewomon's pre-evo

The explanation post states that the child has to be 12 or under though, and without a specific age, that would be difficult to tell.

Yes, but if you watch the anime and from the research I have done you can tell that they are under 12, sometimes as an inspector we have to make a judgment if it doesn’t give us an exact age.

They're two entirely different things. One is an individual user's score, the other is the user average on the anime's page.

I asked that last year and yes, you can use it again if you start from ep 1 again.
Your start date needs to be from year 2019 ;)

edit: rewatching would mean that you watch again something you previously completed, but since this is from on-hold list it should be ok :)

There is an item in one of the difficulties that asks you to watch something you put on hold before june 2018, so I figured it might exclude using on-hold or dropped otherwise.

Oh, for that item yea - just finish what's been sitting on your on-hold list, no need to start over.
I thought you needed an anime that was on your on-hold list for another item.
Oh, just remember to put the original start date (in your form) aka when you first started that anime (that was my mistake last year lol)

(Ap.16) Watch an anime that finished airing with more than 5 minutes per episode and less than 10,000 completed members

For this one and the other ones that say "an anime that finished airing", does that mean you can not start it until after it as finished airing? Wording is confusing to me.

No, you can't use anything for a tier that you watched before you have finished the tiers before it.

You can use it as long as the start date of those anime isnt before the end date of you finishing the Noivice level.
So basically for you question, no, you're not able to use any anime you've already seen before completing the Novice section (having the last anime for Novice started after any anime of the next level)

For that specific challenge it states it has to be done airing already, as how would someone have completed it otherwise.
For other challenges that ask the same thing about "finished airing" .... you can watch anime that's currently airing as much as you want, as long as it's finished before you start your next section and it's finished before the end of 2019. (And it's gotta be in line with the challenge ofcourse, like the challenge you just mentioned.)

You'd complete it the same way you'd complete any other challenge that says finished airing....

for example "Watch an anime that finished airing with no Opening and Ending themes listed".

can you watch one without an opening while it's airing and it still be counted.

If so, how is the wording different to differentiate the rules between one challenge and the other?

Depends on the instalment of the franchise. In some she is not a human, in other she is.

Rewatching is not allowed for this year challenge.

It means "an anime that has already finished airing". So as you've guessed, you can't start it until after it has finished airing.

I wonder how to word this to not confuse people...

If you have already seen an anime and did not use it for any item in the Novice section, you can't use it for other, except for Expert (for this one you can use any anime watched during the year).

You can't rewatch even a single episode.

I was also planing to use few from my on-hold list but will be able to use only one, for the "on-hold" item.

I think you just used the appropriate wording

@PrOxAnto

But that challenge and the other ones that you can not start while ongoing are worded the exact same. So how are they different and how are users supposed to know that there is a difference?

All I can say is that the first challenge you mentioned clearly states that it has to have less than 10k completed implying that it already had to have been completed.

The other ones explain exactly what to do aswell, make sure that whenever the anime is finished airing / you've completed it, it's valid for that question.

Not sure how else to explain it honestly ^^

Right, and you can start something with less than 10k completed as it's airing, finish it before it has 10k completed once it is done airing, and it would thusly be a valid show. And the argument for "oh, but that's too easy". It's just as easy to binge it once the last episode is finished before hits 10k. Also there are plenty of shows currently airing that likely will never reach 10k completed.

So acting like it implies it must be finished is frankly baffling to me and there is no difference in wording between that one and the others.

but anyway, mozgow understood and has clarified so I'm done here.

Glad you got your answer, sorry if I confused you with my wording, I was just going by what previous AWC's have been using and how it was worded for the challenges this year.

Your words weren't what was confusing to me, it was your mentality that it was somehow implied how the challenge was supposed to be done despite you admitting that challenges that were worded the exact same way were not being evaluated the same way.

Also the old wording was just as confusing as the new wording, which is why it was changed and mozgow eluded to that. But hey, thanks for being repeatedly condescending and obtuse.

I took it that way, that it implied it had to be completed.
I most certainly wasn't trying to be condescending or even obtuse towards you.

Again, my apologies.

Hiya :D I have decided to give it a try with this years challenge, as I have missed 2018 and 2017 challenges and i always wanted to give it a go xD Seems fun :D

Anyhow, I have maybe the stupidest question ever, but i want to ask just to be sure. Do I have to update on each and every episode i finish? Or is it okay to put the start day and the completed day? I really don't have a habit of updating on each episode, so I thought I'd ask. And I already have an anime I can't use because it is marked as if I watched it in one day instead of 3 days. Hence why I remembered to ask, so i don't make the stupidest mistake ever.

Also, about the restrictions, can I choose just one restriction ( for example one genre restriction ) or do I have to use multiple ones ? I know restrictions are optional, but i feel it would be fun if I used at least one, so i want to be completely sure about it, because i didn't completely understand from the explanation.

One more thing i didn't understand completely is do we have to make a list for novice difficulty the moment we post on the sign in thread and then follow that pre-made list or is that not necessary?

Lastly, if I understood correctly, I can sign in as a novice and then advance through levels? because some people signed up as experts? Or they did not? xD

I am sorry for having all these stupid questions and i appreciate any help in advance. :)

It's not mandatory to update after each episode you finish, however if for whatever reason you are asked to provide your watching history that could cause an issue. So to be on the safe side, I would recommend trying to update as much as you can.

You can choose however many restrictions you'd like, but if you choose more than one I believe there can only be one from each of the categories.

You can change your list for Novice as much as you want until you have started the next level.

Signing in as a novice is fine, and then just change it as you move through the levels or before you turn the challenge in.

Hope that helps ^^

Can I get a recommendation for:

(N.02) Watch an anime with 10 or more episodes that are each 15 minutes or less

(N.27) Watch an active staff member's favorite anime with 10 episodes or more

For 2: There's Saiki K, but I don't know if it counts. Since the original first version was 120 5 minute episodes, but they made it into 24 normal sized episodes.
[I totally need a recommendation for #2 too though XD}

For 27: Fate/Zero, Angel Beats!, Bakemonogatari
Fate/Zero - https://myanimelist.net/profile/Cloudy
Angel Beats! - https://myanimelist.net/profile/arsonal
Bakemonogatari - https://myanimelist.net/profile/ecoute

The staffs' profiles in case you need it. :D
