Is it kind of like a filler episode just even more pointless?

Recap all the important scenes/events in the anime. It's crap anyways. I never watch e'm!

Its not uncommon for shows to gain popularity while they air. Dont forget anime is made first and foremost for japan, TV at that. Recaps are for casual watchers to dive into the rest of the show.

Its pointless for shows with no plot like Goblin Slayer, but JoJo has quite some of it.

In japan its not as easy to just watch episodes online, because its on TV. So when you missed it, you are kinda screwed. Many people record episodes on tv to watch later, but for this you would need to have set it up first.

When a show gains popularity you can use the recap to gain more viewers who would be lost and loose interest because they missed the entire first season in this case.

Granted many times its used to fill the broadcasting slot with minimal effort, because the scenes already exist. Sometimes however they dont reuse footage.

I would say its better to have a recap with no footage than no episode at all, which is common over new year. You might have noticed the lack of episodes for ongoing shows.

It is for Madoka alone." - Homura

The animators didn't have enough time (or need more time) to finish the next actual episode, so they make a recap episode knowing that they won't meet the deadline in time.

Recaps are fine if you don't want to re-watch old seasons and you don't remember the plot or some events.

Just that.

So the studio has enough time to finish the episode that was supposed to air that week.
You all need to watch Nami.

It was New Year Eve's, there were holidays, people didn't work, that's why they did a recap for JoJo.

Animations studios produce all their episodes in advance though. The episode for next week has already been finished months ago.

The digital effects and cleanup were most likely not finished. Next week is going to be a resource-heavy episode.

No new episode because of holidays week, so they put out a recap instead, to serve as a jumping-on point for any casual TV viewers in Japan that might want it. Simple as that.

It's not a recap, it's Abbacchio practicing with his Moody Blues

Alternatively, episode 14 of Nadesico explains the most likely reason why. I think that episode aired at around the same time of year, too. (and poked fun at the entire concept of recap episodes because of course that show would)

They made a 2nd recap this Friday.

Also the 1st season of JoJo didn't have a recap despite airing around New Year's Eve.

If the animations need more time/money for other episodes they do filler/recaps most of the time and i think its a good thing better to wait a week but than the epsiode is well done instead of shitty animation etc...
