OPM would just be another series like Bersek, AOT, FOTS, etc. with production issues and supbar sequels that brought down what could have been legends like Pokémon, Dragon Ball, FMAB.

Those bonus chapters are literally that: bonus. They aren't actually relevant to the main story, and thus are lower quality than the main chapters that actually move the plot forward. To use them to reach 24 episodes would still be pretty bad, because those bonus chapter episodes would be filler. The fast pacing and high concentration of action and plot that we saw in Season 1 would still be ruined.

Can any of those compare to the actual main story of Season 1? No. Because they were never intended to be the driving force behind the series moving forward.

The hero hunt, the MA, and the tournament would be severely hurt by sticking in bonus chapters that don't move the story forward. So no, I, and many others who valued the series fast pacing and central focus, would be greatly disappointed if such a dragged out adaption came to pass.

Also, JC Staff will struggle just to make 12 decent quality episodes of the main story. Adding in 12 more episodes of bonus chapters would be overkill for them, and gurantee OPM would not hold up production quality, regardless of the content.

Sure, it could be explained "No, those are bonus, the main story comes later" But that's no different from other series that drag out the anime just for more episodes, putting quantity before quality.
