I do these every now and again to see if there are any decent romance anime that I missed or, wrongly, thought weren't good enough to try.

Maison Ikkoku is the unbeaten, gold standard of my tastes.
If you haven't seen it, first, I highly recommend you do, and second, here's what I mean:


Have:
Build up (no ep 1 "I like her," ep 2 "We just had a child" nonsense); slice-of-life *characters*(fantasy situations are fine, but I'd prefer relateable people, at least); romance as a main driver of the story, if not THE main driver.
Also, I kinda like teased romances, so I also wouldn't mind a longer series, or at least one that doesn't waste the time it has.

Don't have:
Harem, no conclusion.


Those are my basic preferences.

I would have said Golden Time and Rec, but you dropped both of them.

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry

Working!! (romance takes multiple seasons to develop)

Tasogare Otome x Amnesia (might be too Harem for you)

Kimi no Na wa (according to your list you haven't seen it yet)

Midori no Hibi

Seconding tsurezure children, kimi no nawa, rakudai kishi no cavalry, and rec. Especially rec, its short but so impactful, at least imo. Also tsuki ga kirei, wotakoi, oregairu and oremonogatari. Hope you enjoy these as much as I do.

Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san -- I hadn't assigned a 9 or 10 score to anything for months until this one charmed me off my rocker

Forgot to thank you guys for the recommendation, so here's thanks.

I just got through Tsurezure Children. It was OK, I gave it a 7/10, though my main complaint would be that it went against what I'd said earlier about having build up. For reference, my favorite, Maison Ikkoku, is 96 eps.

In any case, thanks all the same, it was one of the better recs I've been given recently, short or not.
