I was looking through online thesis papers when I come across one that was on this show. A student at the University of Massachusetts wrote a lengthy (71 page) dissertation on "The Big O" and its themes of memories and war, with respect to the historical aspect of Japan's defeat in World War 2.

The student also interviewed the writer, Chiaki Konaka, which is pretty enlightening and gives a more clearer understanding of what was going through Konaka's head when he was writing the script for season 2.

A CASE STUDY OF THE JAPANESE ANIME SERIES

Another cool and nifty thing I've found was Konaka's script for a CD Drama of The Big O that he wrote prior to season 2. You can find snippets of some of the lines being reused in the theater scene in episode 14 (what a weird episode that was).

Well hot damn, I didn't even realize that this was a written by Chiaka Konoka—that probably explains how it got onto my plan to watch list though. I'll check out those links once I finish the anime, thanks!

Very nice piece of work. It's probably the only meaningful analysis of the series and made me realize I need to consider context when judging a work (because the theme of memories and the pain of remembering/identity of remembering is overused already by itself).

Otherwise I don't really care about the simulation/reset/free will stuff. It's all done to death.

Lol at the two bots that spammed this post. I thought those types of spammers only invaded web blogs in the comments section, but I guess online forums are not immune either. Anyways, I'll have to check out this thesis and theater CD thing (added to the backlog lol).

A research proposal is mandatory when applying for a PhD program. Principals, admissions committees, and sponsors use it to evaluate student ideas, critical thinking skills, and the viability of a PhD project, so I'm looking for a trusted resource to help

@LightQuill Thank you so much for this! I just finished the show. I'm definitely diving into this!

Edit: I read through it and it was a nice interpretation! It was fairly long already but Dorothy (androids) weren't even mentioned. There is certainly some analysis that could be had there. As a graduate student myself, I get the author not wanting to further open that can of worms.
