Various news reports have announced that seiyuu Tetsuo Gotou has died on Tuesday at lunch time from esophageal cancer. He was 68 years old. Fellow seiyuu Shigeru Chiba also Tweeted about the news.
Gotou studied acting at the En Kenkyuujo in 1975 and joined Engekishuudan En the following year. He first voiced many minor characters in Detective Conan in 1996 and has since voiced characters such as Gowasu in Dragon Ball Super, Hannyabal, Mjosgard, and Lao G in the One Piece franchise, Tetsuhito Mifune in Seikaisuru Kado, Bizeff in the 2011 version of Hunter x Hunter, and Ivica Tanović from the Eureka Seven AO series.
First Unshou Ishizuka, and now Gotou falls victim to esophageal cancer. Fuck you cancer!
I didn't recognize him until I saw that he voiced the Red Troll in Yuki no Joou who is a character with a somewhat high-pitched voice. I'm surprised that a man like Gotou was able to voice a character like that. Thank you for your contribution to the anime industry. Rest in Peace.
