Only when I have literally nothing to do and only with short episodes series like Hetalia because I get distracted easily and I can't stay focused on my phone for 10 mins or more (when I'm in public). I don't care what kind of reaction I could get, here the weeb culture is very extended.

Why would you watch anime in public? I do it when I have spare time at my house, when you are in public it's probably because you need to do something or you are with someone.

In high school, when there was nothing going on or during study hall, i would watch it on my phone with my earbuds. It's how I watched a majority of shows like Kiznaiver, Rainbow Days, and Guilty Crown (that one I had to be careful though). Nobody really seemed to care..

Not really. It's too distracting. The weather, too many people, stuff like that. So I guess people catching me watch something that might not be kid-friendly is one of the reasons.

Nah tbh, it gets too annoying when every person that notices instantly scoots over next you while asking "Yo boi what is that?"

Manga though I can read virtually anywhere, even while walking depending on how exciting it is.

I always watch anime during school break or at the bus stop~ I think that there's nothing to be ashamed of unless you're watching hentai stuff

I sometimes watch in the back of class, but aside from that I wouldn't watch anime in public.

Yeah, I was watching Fate/Zero and the girl sitting beside me was staring at me with a peculiar look. I felt bad for her tbh. She has yet to know the divine realm of anime. I bet she only watches Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, etc.

Actually Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad are awesome. The devine realm is being able to have multiple interests and open-minded to some new things. ;)

No, I want a calm environment.

I did it a few times if I was bored one day. I would grab my headphones and watched some sfw shows. I made some friends when I did this lol.

When I was watching Dragon Ball back when I first started with anime I used to download some episodes in the morning before went off for school and would watch about 3-4 episodes during school. Nowadays I would never watch anime in public because shit is a lot more risky compared to the stuff you see in DBZ. Also, can't stand the any distraction while watching anime.

Hell No!

I have a reputation to uphold. I also can't afford the loss of situational awareness.

...besides, I wouldn't be able to enjoy it as much in such a distracting environment anyway.

Assuming you're not with friends or family or doing it at school or work (since it could affect your social standing) I don't really get why it'd matter since you're surrounded by a bunch of strangers you'll never meet again so it's like why would you give a shit what any of them think? Hell you could watch porn and it wouldn't matter lol. I generally listen to podcasts when I'm in public so I don't have to be staring down at my phone but yeah I've watched anime in public.

Besides anime just in the past few years has already made ridiculously huge strides to becoming mainstream. I especially thank Netflix for that as well as the few shows the past few years that managed to break into the mainstream a tad (but not in like a Pokemon kind a way); My Hero Academia, Attack On Titan, Sword Art Online, and One Punch Man. I would be willing to be a lot of money on anime becoming pretty much fully mainstream within just the next few decades to the point where there'd be pretty much no reason to be embarrassed for watching it even amongst your peers (especially among the younger generation which for better or for worse seems like by then is gonna be a bunch of little anime loving introverts).

Why shouldn't I ?

It's not that I watch it all the time and anywhere. I watch it on the bus/tram during my commute or when I have a 2-3 hours long trip by train ahead of me. If possible, I try to avoid hentai or R-rated stuff.

Over the years there was only one person who gave me a strange look. The rest did not care what I was watching on my phone.

It's very rare for me to use public transport, but I don't know why should I bother what people around me thinks about what's I'm watching or playing. People don't care anyway btw.

Yeah, I mean, why not.
The only thing is, I watch comedy anime only, I couldn't concentrate enough to completely understand a hard psychological, that's my favorites xD.

Sometimes, like when you have to renew your licence or places you need to be with a long que. I sometimes watch an episode at work on my lunch break, mainly when I forgot to make lunch when running late - instead of going into the staff room I just sit at my desk. If anyone see's, I couldn't give less of a fcuk... I'm 6'4, 98kgs and polynesian. Back at highschool (2003-2007, ages 13-17) I use to bring my gameboys to school and play Pokemon or Golden Sun during class or during lunch sometimes, its no big deal. What's there to be embarrassed about? Even if I was scrawny, I would still do it.

As someone else mentioned, it's difficult for me to concentrate when I'm surrounded by a lot of people, so I've never really watched/read/played anything in public. Besides, if I'm in public, I'm likely going somewhere or already doing something and don't have the time or desire to sit somewhere and watch an episode of anime. Maybe if I had a long commute by train/bus, but I don't.

Even if I'm excited for a new episode, I'd rather just wait until I'm comfortable at home to really enjoy it, instead of trying to squeeze it in during my day.

If you're considerate to see hentai as anime, then yes, I've gallantly watched it during exams.

My personal preference is to watch anime on my 18 inch laptop in the first row of the lecture hall, headphones in and my attention focused on the task at hand. That way I can assert my dominance to both the professor and everyone in the room while signaling my superior taste to my fellow classmates. I've had a few people ask me to stop, but I simply ignore them, as a true alpha such as myself never backs down.

I've never been put in that sort of situation, but I believe two outcomes would come from it. Either the person would just take a glance and then just proceed on with what they were doing, not really taking much care to it. Or they would find it interesting due to watching anime themselves and ask questions. I haven't been able to watch anime on my phone outside of being at home because my phone is a cheap piece of shit that is only good for calling/texting. I would like to test this out though by sitting at a coffee shop that has a hot spot for internet connection and just see how people who see me watching anime actually react. I may try it soon with my Tablet.

I do it quite often in the office when I have no work left.

However I never do it in open places like public transport and parks for security reasons, but I do read light novels.

I don't do it often but I've watched anime at school and other people have joined in. On planes and long train rides, I'll watch things too, though I'm mindful of what type of shows I'm watching. At first, I felt unsure about it but then I saw the guy sitting in front of me was doing the same.
I'll bring along a volume of manga if I know I'll have to wait, like with doctors appointments. Sometimes people will ask what it's about and comment on having to read it backwards.

idc if anyone sees me watching it. If someone is rude enough to make a mean comment about it they're not worth anyones time to begin with. I'd probably use headphones though, so I doubt anyone would say anything.

yes I do if I can and have the time to, I will

The only place I watch anime is in the comfort of my room. I see people watching anime at the school library and stuff and wish I had the confidence to pull that off.

I mean, yeah - No one really cares as long as I have headphones in. Maybe someone noticed down the line and silently judged me... But that doesn't bother me. So yeah, I have but I've never elicited a response from anyone.

I read manga on the bus, but anime I don't watch in public. Mainly due to WiFi constraints + videos are a battery drain.

Hell to the no. I don't ever watch/listen to anything if I'm not in a dark and quiet room all by myself.

I can't and don't want to even try concentrating on anything if I'm somewhere with tons of people, light, and noise. It's just not the full experience, man.

Nope. I don't know anyone that likes anime and it is not popular in my country. Don't have the courage.
People that are watching seems pretty weird. I mean, weird is good in a way but there are people that are too weird for me :P

Anyway, if I knew someone to watch with... so maybe
If you are reading this I hope something good happens to you today! :3

If the place I'm at isn't too distracting I do. Most people probably don't care about what I'm doing, and if someone does care, so what. I'm probably never going to talk to that person so I don't really mind if they think "wow that guy's watching anime what a weirdo".

Every second week, 2x 2 hours travelling with a crappy bus filled with random boring ppl... of course I use that time doing something fun like watching anime. Sometimes I just read manga or normie books too.

It's all about the angles; If I'm sitting with my back to a wall/corner and the vicinity of people around me is more than twice the diameter of LBS (Livable Breathing Space), then yes.

However anything below that diameter of LBS it's going to be a no from me dawg. Normies aren't usually accustomed to seeing anime in public (their natural habitat). So to keep the peace, I prefer to watch it in the comfort of my own privacy.
