| Well, I certainly can't. I try to avoid anime with sad endings like Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, Guilty Crown, etc. I avoid them not because I hate them, but because I can't handle all the misery contained in these stories. I know they are good anime, but I can't make myself to watch it. Why be depressed for no reason? Life's too short for being depressed. I cried a lot during the ending of F/SN; I mean, no one told me that it contained a sad ending. Well, at least the epilogue in the F/SN VN made me feel happy. I also cried a little after I completed Code Geass. I watch anime for enjoyment and I certainly don't wanna get depressed after watching an anime. I really love anime with happy endings because it lightens up the mood like Steins;Gate, Re:Zero, etc. Anyway, what about you guys? How do you handle sad anime? Or do you refrain from watching them? |

| I tend to accept it if they have a sad ending, such as the ending to Plastic Memories, they executed it so well imo, using comedy throughout to make the ending even more sad, but in case of that style of anime, they’re made so the climax IS the sad ending, making even a sad ending, a good one. Unlike Guilty Crown, where they with no build up or reference throw in a sad ending. So it’s depending on how they execute it. |

| If sad endings are making you "depressed", it's probably not the anime. Sad endings bring some of the best conclusions, so I don't mind. I mostly try to avoid SOL because I watch anime to escape not relive, it's boring to me. |

| The only misery in Shigatsu is the anime itself. Anyway I don't have any problem with them, lately I started to read gekiga manga where their endings usually are definitely more depressing than your anime "sad" ending. |

| Actually, yes. Most of the time, animes that have sad endings are one of the great ones. Though, I'm not fine if the ending is just downright a depressing ending with no happiness in sight. An opposite of a bittersweet ending is the ending I don't really like. |

Crying and depression are two different things. Just because someone cries, it doesn't mean they are depressed. Just because someone is depressed, doesn't mean they are crying. Sad anime endings make you sad. Ok, that's understandable. Sad anime endings make you cry. Ok, also understandable. Sad anime endings make you depressed? Nope, not buying it. If you think you're depressed over a sad anime ending, just wait til life hits you with something that isn't fiction. Crying over a sad anime ending proves I am alive, that I can care about something other than myself, and that I am not some mindless, emotionless drone that my employer would prefer I was. I am pleased as well as entertained when an anime can evoke a range of emotions from me. |

| The trick is to watch a "happy anime" right after. At least for me, it gives me multiple times the enjoyment when watching the happy ones and maybe because I like to keep my mood balanced, not too happy or too sad |

| Anime with sad endings aren't that sad to me. The very first anime I ever watched was Angel Beats when I was 12 or 13. The feels were powerful, yes, but I didn't cry or anything. And utsuge is now my favorite genre in visual novels. |

| I try to steer clear of such stories. Anime is an escape from reality from me, and I want things to end on a positive note in my escape because I want to feel good in the end. Furthermore, positive endings make me more inclined to rewatch the show in the future. The emotional payoff in the finale, after being invested in the characters in a show just isn't there for me in sad/tragic endings. Not my cup of tea in other words. It's not that I cannot handle tragedies, I would rather prefer those tragedies to happen in the middle of the story and then see how the characters piece themselves back together towards a positive note, or moving on from the aftermath. Clannad ~After Story~ is a good example of this. |

| Yes, i'd never avoid an anime just because i heard it has a sad ending. If anything that makes me more interested in the show, as sad endings are much more uncommon. |

| The feeling I get after watching anime with sad endings is certainly very different, which I tend to like. So yes, I do watch anime with sad endings. As to how you handle it, it takes time. Also, after watching such anime, I usually switch to comedy anime. |

| Not all sad animes depress me . Guilty Crown depressed me a lot . For a few days after ending it I was so depressed . Same thing happened after watching Death Note . But it’s different in case of Code Geass . I cried a lot but cherished how great the protagonist was . |
| YES I love anime that can make me cry. It’s not like I want to cry, I don’t, I don’t even want to be sad. But if a work of fiction if able to make me feel so strongly at the end of it to make me cry or feel sad, that’s awesome. Alot of the anime that made me cry turn out to be ones I REALLY liked, just because I was able to connect with it so much. Cowboy Bebop is a good example of an anime with a sad ending I liked. But the ending has to be done right, because sad endings are cool but if they’re not written correctly they can just come off as unsatisfying. |

| I will generally pass on something I know is overly depressing. I don't generally find negative conclusions satisfying or enjoyable so watching them feels like a waste of time in most cases. Although, sometimes a depressing ending just works for certain things. |

| To be honest I'm always crying not only in sad ending animes but also a happy ending ones. Because I'm always focused on how the character goes on, how they should accept themselves. The best way if you don't want to cry is watching it multiple times. It's obvious you already understand how the story is. In the end it depends on how you look at those show. |

| I'm kinda drunk at the mo' (generally a pre -req for when I'm annoyed enough to comment), so if you PM me in about 10 hours, I can give you a better list, but the one that comes immediately to mind (and I know is not even close to the best example) is Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Steins;Gate, Kokoro Connect, and Cowboy Bebop... Depending on your preferred genre. I'm sure I'm not doing a great job a representing my point. |
