THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Wow, this was another very tense episode and it didn't waste much time at all to show that. We got Masaru in trouble again but he does get help from Narumi and Shirogane.

Quite frankly, I'm somewhat annoyed by Masaru's role so far since he's protrayed as being weak. On the other hand, I love watching Shirogane so far. Her actions are entertaining to watch especially when she and Narumi are together. Seems she's even useful around the house too with her cooking skills!

Pretty good episode! I think even the music makes the episode entertaining.

Been eagerly waiting for ep2, and I was not disappointed!
Another great episode!

Holy shit, I didn't expect Shirogane being the best waifu of 2018!
Her smile is gorgeous, and she even knows how to cook!
Also she's not one of those annoying tsundere archetype to do annoying tsundere shit reaction when being exposed.

Also I have to praise how interesting how the combat works in this series.
Those Karakuri's movement and detail parts are so interesting and fun to watch!

Also we got 2 of the 3 characters' motivation and personality revealed already in just episode 2 which is great character progression and pacing.

I'm really fucking hype for the puppet fights that are gonna happen in the later episodes

So far, Shirogane looks like a basic tsundere and Masaru is almost too pathetic and wimpy. I'm looking forward to seeing how they develop and evolve. The puppet designs are pretty cool and I can't wait to see more.

If Shirogane is a tsundere, she'd slap the shit out of Narumi during the bath scene and call Narumi pervert.

Also how's she a Tsundere when she doesn't hide her feeling, favoring Masaru to an extreme while rejecting Narumi completely?
She's totally honest about her feeling so far.

It seems your interpretation of Tsundere is extremely weird/ out of ordinary.
People seem to categorized every female casts as Tsundere nowadays because they don't know any other category/ word, and they have no idea what Tsundere is so they just put them there.

Solid Episode! I was eagerly waiting for this episode and had high expectations, and I’m glad to say it’s been delivered in flying colours!

Really, not much to complain so far except for the extreme facial expressions that sometimes put me off, but mainly for the first episode and not this. I wish Shirogane’s clothes would have been a little more sincere though but it might well be a part of her character. Other than that, everything has been great so far! Sound Department, already aplenty of glorious soundtracks thanks to the great Sound Director, and Art/Animation, particularly the action choreographies and scenes, has been top-notch have been phenomenal in particular! Storyline seems really interesting too and the cliffhanger really sets up the next epsiode for some dark storytelling and intense fights to come in the later episodes, can’t wait to see how they go!

In this episode, we saw a lot more background of the two main male characters and it was both hilarious(Narumi’s for the most bit) and saddening. Narumi’s album photos were just cho-very hilarious though, and also they way he just turned around to not show off his weak side after listening to Masaru’s backstory was just hilarious. I’m really liking his character and the way he’s trying to motivate our main character Masaru here. Looks like Narumi is slowly developing a thing for our badass Shirogane and the little fanservice thrown in was pleasing! I totally ship them!!!
Loved the little parody between the two in the shopping mart though, xD. Narumi sure has it tough with that rather unusual disease. Meanwhile, Shirogane with the Arlequin really make her Op! Little worrying now though that she forgot to take along her weapon, I hope she at least takes it along despite wasting a few handful seconds.

I hope Masaru gets stronger sooner rather than later because it'll get old really fast if he just gets kidnapped for a majority of the show. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing this rescue mission as there should be some cool action.

I'm happy that Shirogane was so nonchalant about being seen naked. I legit thought we were gonna have the generic "you saw me naked so now I have to beat the shit out of you" reaction.

Hmm, weaker than ep 1, seemed a lot more tropey.
Something I don't understand, can't that guy who needs to hear laughter to survive just laugh himself, or record laughter on a tape or something? Not that his "disease" makes sense in the first place, but that stuck out to me.

It's from a 1997 manga

It seems that this episode is dedicated to set up a rationale for the lead guy to follow the boy as his bodyguard. Sadly they did it by using too many internal monologues that may work well in manga but not in anime.

I was pleasently surprised when Shirogane didn't beat Narami for seeing her naked in the bathroom. She may not be too fond of him, but at least she didn't harm him for such accidental reason.

I don't know if Masaru is going to get stronger, but I can live with him being kidnapped. He's a normal boy, is not like he can become stronger from the day to the night after all, unless he magically gets some power up or something.
The thing fo the two sides fighting over the Saiga heir is interesting, at least more than having just one antagonistic group acting as the main menace (I wouldn't had mind that, btw).

Those photos of young Narumi made me think he's rich, or at least his family is, thing who make me question the reason why he appears to be stray and with normal clothes instead of something more luxurious. I can guess his strange illness is the cause of this. Only time will tell.

Also, that ending with the unconscious Masaru and that old man smiling creepely over him was disturbing as heck, lmao.

Shirogane is indeed a perfect match for Narumi.

Another episode ended like 5 minute.. I think this show best to watch by binging but damn its hard to wait almost year to watch it. I do remember having similar problem with u&t show lol.

Pretty cool character introductory on this episode and seems taken very different approach than manga. Narumi's character and his tsundereness so much reminds me of Tora.

By the way, I would like to point the anime-only watcher that the main story take turn different tone after this introductory arc so hoping people don't drop this quick before the show really kicks up when its already unpopular that amazon caused :/

They're really pushing the ship aren't they? Well at least we got Shirogane wearing a dress shirt with possibly nothing else. Kinky.

I think I'm actually okay with the kid getting kidnapped. I hate to complain about something so minuscule but his crying was starting to annoy me. So I think I'll prefer the rescue route than the protect one.

I'm overall more curious how the heck Narumi managed to survive so long, unless he didn't get it until a certain age or something.

You forget Fairy Tails and One Piece.

People already complained about the pacing and villains of this show when it's only episode 2, and it's a source material from 1996 which is older than your so-called popular shonen trope.

Heck, those people conveniently forget how many episodes it takes for Fairy Tails / One Piece/ Naruto to even start rolling in plot. Karakiri's Circus pacing is already pretty darn fast and get to the point real quick, and established motivation and characters way earlier.
And I heard the plot is still in intro-phase too.

I think you missed the point the pacing is not a problem at all , the most important thing is how depth the story is .
How original the work is .
Those show you listed are original with depth story unlike the generic famous show named ( mha) sorry if you're a fan of mha .
But this show is better than mha at least as a story and characters

I think you misinterpreted my point too because I'm not defending MHA at all.
It was pretty good later on, but it was immensely over-rated too in my opinion.
(Like seriously, west already treat it like the #2 best anime ever base on a certain vote which is more like popularity contest.
Oh, and #1 ofc got voted One Piece cuz it got the most viewers.)

Well Fairy Tail I agree, now you can't compare to One Piece... It runs without breaks(unfortunately) and is always catching up to the manga, so the plot pace is what it is...
Karakiri has all the content released so it's their responsibility to pace the adaptation well, to me they are doing a good job I think.

Shirogane is such a badass, she crushed that killer like he was nothing! And Narumi is great too, it was because he was also there that Masaru was saved back then, but they let their guard down, and the poor boy was kidnapped, and it doesn't seem it's going to be easy to retrieve him. I wasn't expecting a situation like this so soon.

Masaru also suffered a lot, and now people are trying to kill or kidnap him just for money, a money he doesn't even want from a father he practically didn't even know. He doesn't deserve this, he just wanted his mother to have a grave, and to be able to live in peace, this was too much, no wonder Narumi cried for him. I also liked how he shared his past with Masaru in order to cheer him up.

Things start to get complicated for Masaru.
An assassin appears, this guy wants to get rid of Masaru, but Shirogane and Arlequin are very strong, the other puppet was easily demolished, on the other hand Narumi turns out to be quite strong, defeating the other murderers who had Masaru.
Now that we know a little about Narumi's disease, I must say that it is a bit sad, the man should provoke laughter in people, otherwise it does not work.
Shirogane would be the perfect wife, in addition to having this ability to control Arlequin, also the bathroom scene made it clear that she has a spectacular body.
Another couple of bad guys kidnap Masaru, this time Shirogane and Narumi can´t do anything, but the murderer who appears at the beginning gives them a clue of the situation and who is the person who sent to kidnap Masaru, also warns Shirogane that the users of puppets that are in the mansion where Masaru is, are very strong and the puppets are more fearsome than she believes.
This anime has been very good to me until now, and after seeing the silhouettes of the next enemies that Shirogane and Narumi will face, I can anticipate good action scenes and the puppets will be even more spectacular.

I don't get people that are bothered by Masaru, he's an 11 year old kid that has assassins and puppets after him and he doesn't even know why. What else would you expect him to do? I'd shit my pants

Still he does change a lot fairly quickly in the manga and from what I've seen in episode 3 PV it will happen way faster in the anime

Good episode, it certainly increased my opinion of this series. I wonder what is the point of assassin guy telling them all the information, if his job is to kill Masaru, then they are completely opposite in their goal. They share more in common with the kidnapping faction than them. It's a bit of a shame that Masaru is so weak, but it is realistic. A single child has little to do against adults like that. I'm more surprised that Shirogane let him go to the toilet alone so easily, it's a good place to kidnap him. Though I guess it's a matter of experience, with kidnappers/assassins having more experience than them.

I'm looking forward to see how this develops. I also like the vibe of old-school action anime that this show has.

All right, I already really liked the first episode and this one is no different. Puppets are probably gonna offer some great fights (even though I have trouble being impressed by action done by CGI models).

Now to the people talking about MHA : if you think that it's overrated than you should stop bringing it up into every discussion, just let it go and focus on the serie we're here for. It's fresh and original, unlike MHA sure, but I find in Karakuri what I love in MHA : expressive characters. Yes sometimes it feels forced and exagerrated, but there's no better way to quickly get a grip on a character's personnality and therefore caring for it.

So far the best series I'm watching.

She can cook, fight and she's tsundere.

Masaru better grow the fuck up though. Tired of him being a wimpy child. I hope in the 36 episodes this series has, he'll level up.

Well, I had hope for the series. However it fills up a lot of time with "slice of life" type gags.

I believe if a director needs to fill in time and can't make the story fluent, the show itself won't be good.

I can't help but chuckle at the thought of these puppet fights actually being similar to stand battles in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

That being said, I'm amazed this anime isn't getting enough attention, its been a while since a dark horse Shounen type anime came into a season like this one.

This episode was pretty good. ZONAPHA is really interesting. Also, I get that Masaru's being portrayed as weak and he has the "gotta get stronger" mentality, but, come on, he's a kid. It's only been episode 2 and he's still dealing with the fact that people are trying to kill/kidnap him for money he didn't even want.

Despite that...I will admit that it'll get old if he's just getting kidnapped over and over again.
