Poll: Do you find the word "Onii-chan" at least a little annoying?

I personally find the word "onii-chan" annoying, as well as some other Japanese words for "big brother" to a lesser extent, although I don't really know exactly why. For some reason "big brother" doesn't irritate me as much even though it means (mostly) the same thing.

The word itself, no.

The meme, though, yeah.

Also, squeaky-cute voices for characters I don't think it fits, yes too. But I know people disagree on this.

I actually really like the edgy oni chan memes, but it can be a bit annoying if used excessively.

Not really. I don't get why it's so celebrated in anime though.

I see you're not fully living up your username, OP. Just saying. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anime was indeed a mistake, since we prefer 2D waifu's over 3D wamen.

Not the word but the voice of the imouto is annoying to me. Weirdly I found the word big brother annoying in my regional dialect.

Like Doctor Who said: The world is very strange.

Not really. Is just like "Itadakimas" or "Kisama"
Is just a word.

Nope, that would be the same as non-native English speakers complaining "big brother" irks them. It's just a foreign phrase. That's all.

Not at all,i really love the sound of this word infact, this word along with the few others japanese ones are one of the main reasons why i love watching animes in original japanese version

As most of the foreign dubbers usually change these words from the japanese ones to that of their regional language.

Nah, but i get why you're annoyed with it
most characters who are known to say the word onii-chan alot are shitty brat waifu bait for filthy NEET Otaku that always act like a bitch and have a rubber ducky voice

I want an Imouto to wake me up in the morning, flashing her strawberry panty, shoving it in my mouth, and dearly saying "Onii-chan, okiru".

I think it depends on the tone of the characters saying that word, most of the time it feels super annoying (especially when coming from the loli moe shit), but for some special cases, it feels impactful, probably due to the scenario and context of the story.

Not at all, it sounds cute. Are you sure you're not just saying it's annoying because you think of annoying kids in anime or something?

I mean..

it's just a word, isn't ?...
"I'm alright, because
The warmth on my back
Is from you, protecting me
My bent heart is being straightened out
I feel like I can keep on walking when I see your face
That time, I was able to gather my wishes and jump up
because of your words of encouragement"

I used to find it cute as shit. I don't really see anyone finding it particularly annoying unless said person was female.

it's just a term for older brother, so not really, but 90% of the "memes" are pretty annoying and repetitive

I hate when a shitty anime without creativity uses it for the incest loving viewers, however when it's used normally it's not weird or annoying.

The word is fine, it’s just the voice it’s usually said in that I hate. Sounds like nails on a chalkboard. Even worse if it’s a siscon anime.

Vaguely relevant.

i don't find "oni-chan" annoying, but i find it slightly annoying when they say "big brother" in the english dub.

They should just call him by name in the dub...ya know, like normal people who speak English.

I also don't think it's necessary to be 100% accurate with pronunciations every time...

I love dubs that have been localized to the English language very well. A lot of times, they end up being contextually superior to the subs.
I believe this was the case for both Chio-chan and How to not summon a demon lord

Yes but it's not the word itself, it's the tone that is annoying. That fake cutesy voice scratches my brain.

I have a horrible idea, from reading the posts here. :D

Basically, notice how a number of reeponses are "the onii-chan trope/memes and/or that affectedly cutesy voice are cringe" and another bunch of responses are "It's cute and I love it and want a sister like that (possibly for impure reasons)".

we should found political parties over this issue >:D

When spoken normally, no. When emphasised like it's the main part of the sentence that's key to tickling the fetishes of a bunch of weirdos that are mostly the only child of their family, yeah. I swear it feels like the whole imouto fetish community is filled with people who don't even have a sister.

Seriously, I don't get the whole deal with little sisters. If it's the main character's sister, then it isn't yours. I get if you like someone that happens to be the main character's sister, but she's not calling you onii-chan so what's the whole turn on?
I swear I'm not a lolicon.

If your favourite character is Tsutsukakushi Tsukiko, you are my soul mate.

Opinions are all relevant. I express mine freely and believe everyone should too. Unless you say "<Insert anime here> is the best! Everything else sucks", then GTFO.

Only if an adult woman is squealing it from the top of her lungs to her brother she's in love with.
