But the novels aren't over yet, they've just been on hiatus (for 7 years) until literally 2 weeks ago with the release of a novella. When Nagaru Tanigawa actually releases another novel, Kadokawa should have some kind of incentive to finish it, though KyoAni might not agree since it's not one of their own works. The reason why the anime was discontinued in the first place was simply because Tanigawa's release schedule... well, he didn't follow any, and there was a 4-year hiatus before the release of the latest volume. I imagine Kadokawa was placing their bets on the hope that as long as Haruhi continued, they'd make more content, but needless to say, the gaps in releases threw a wrench into that plan. Especially since the guy has started writing again. A new season would also help promote sales of the new novels, so it only makes sense. |
