THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

I was just wondering...

What was up with the animation of this episode? O_o Especially the part with Shichiroji dancing. This anime's had pretty great animation thus far, but this episode I was a bit stunned by the horrible quality. I don't know if it's supposed to be on purpose, but it looked terrible!

Besides that the actual episode was pretty good.

I can offer no explanation. >_> Shichiroji looked absolutely horrible. I think they spent too much time/money with the backgrounds and mecha (both which always look amazing) and sacrificed character art at times. *sighs*

Hmm, you could be right about that. The backgrounds were always beautifully done, but I've noticed that on occasion the characters themselves look rather flat and unshaded, especially during moments of intense action. =/

I don't remember, is this the episode where they first meet Shichiroji?

This one really shocked me. Maybe it was a different animator behind the scenes for this one? Sometimes we see these kinds of eps in anime. E.g. in The Third, the second-last eps was actually drawn with a completely different style of art and animated really poorly. I think the same thing must've happened here, unfortunately.

The director of his episode is different from the series director. That's why the quality of the anime has gone through a sudden change.

Well, t'was different, but i loved it. It had this special melancholic atmosphere.

Yukino, (Schichiroji's woman) beautifull character, touching, and perfecly drawn.

So far the best episode!

Ok, I'm glad other people noticed how terrible this episode looked. The beginning dance scene was hard to watch it was so horrible. Alternately, Yukino was beautiful, and her closeups looked amazing. I dunno what was up with the rest of the ep.

Haha, those skeletons playing the shamisen were creepy yet hilarious!

Wow, no surprise everyone else noticed the animation quality drop, haha. Guess they had to keep a strict release date & substitute different animators.

Also, hi Clairseana from 8 months ago!

you guys need to learn the difference between "terrible" and "different"

the animation in this episode was really good and it actually looked far more creative than the rest of the show

and the dance was great

Some quality animation there. It's both different and terrible.
Other than that this episode was good. And what's with the shamisen-playing skeletons? With the light orbs flying around them it's hard to say they're not supernatural or something.

honestly... Putting my opinion of the quality of the animation aside, I like the new character.

god it's nice to know my vision isn't failing though. Everyone here noticed the change too.

I'm not surprised that people noticed the drop in quality of animation. I haven't seen it this bad in a while... In fact I almost never notice it. But it went from top animation to stick figures, almost. I'm a little disappointed. I wish they had put more effort in. And it kinda continues after with the same quality.

This is just my opinion, but these things are the hallmark of lazy animators:
1.) A still back ground where only the mouth or 1 character is moving.
2.) Excessive recaps and intro/ending
3.) That thing they did this episode with the crap animation.
4.) Excessive pointless flash backs (I haven't caught them using this one yet.)

Yeah, so far they have done three out of four, which is pretty bad.

What gets me is that they didn't even bother to touch up the animation for the DVD/BD. Now that's just annoying. It really took away from the episode, and this is coming from a guy that is rarely bothered by animation.

I remember reading somewhere online that for the seventh episode, they were running late on a deadline and so the quality was somewhat cut.

I personally didn't find it too bad, I've seen worse and Heihachi was pretty cute.( u v u )

Kikuchiyo lives and that's all I care about XD

Sad that Shichiroji had to leave Yukino. I hope he doesn't die :(

Did they seriously use up all their money making the previous episodes. It looked so shoddy that I almost couldn't watch it. If it continues like this, I'm out.
