You mean about his past? Upto volume 5 which are translated, not much, you get info mostly about Tomo and Ii's relationship.

Yes, but this is quote from volume 1. He talks with Teruko about "making waves" and then he asks her above mentioned question. Teruko does not answer and instead she says:
"You and I are totally different" and "Don't you dare make me out to be one of your kind"
I'm wondering whether Ii talks about himself (his past) or if it is just some kind of metaphor...

Yeah that's what I said? I know it's from volume 1, I mentioned the fact that we don't have much info about his backstory, at least until the translated volumes. About the above quote, it could mean as a metaphor to that locking up incident of the volume too.
