What's the name of this Anime Workout routine?

It's this leg workout where the person moves their legs open and closed. It's basically like using a thighmaster without actually having a thighmaster, which imo makes the workout useless. I've seen this in a couple of anime, such as in Kanokon and Maken Ki. Anyone know the name? And is this workout anime-exclusive or do people do it in the real world?
