Doesn't seems like Goblin Slayer have any deeper plot than killing goblin. Why is people hyping this? Remove some gore and rape and what do you have left?

It's almost as if the purpose of Goblin Slayer is to primarily provide action entertainment by having an awe-inspiring and somewhat eccentric MC go around on a goblin slaughter parade. The primary purpose of fictional works is entertainment first and foremost, and Goblin Slayer is exactly what it promotes itself as.

That said, the gore and rape were disgustingly graphic and could go away, and while I'm sure that was an appeal for some people, that's definitely not it's singular appeal point.

Which isn't.

Whether the premise sounds interesting or not to you is irrelevant. Goblin Slayer excellently achieves what it promotes and doesn't pretend to be something it is not. That in itself gives it value and appeal that draws people in and charms them.

With all of these announcements, I think I'm gonna dive again into Toaru.

I watched the first 2 seasons of Index years ago and thought that they were a huge waste of time and potential. Index was also one of the most annoying characters I've seen in anime.

People seem to generally have a better impression of Railgun (and Misaka), so I think I'll try my hands at that. Hopefully, the experience will be better this time.
They do that because:
1. Hate on Touma
2. Misaka is babby's first tsundere waifu (we are at a point now where Toaru, a post-2000 series is a classic)
3. Better production values
4. Overall better handling of the material
5. Even the shitton of fillers were mostly cute girls doing cute things

No wonder. And I say that as a Misakafag myself btw.

Railgun is great but I feel like a lot of the reason I like it is all the context provided by Index for a lot of shit. It's like how one can enjoy Prisma Illya anime without reading FSN, but reading FSN will likely enhance the experience immensely. Also fillers aside Railgun is better than Illya anime yeah there I said it.

I wonder what joy is there to found with that. The manga review are all saying the same thing. It's all about killing goblins.

To me, its Akame Ga Kill of this season.

Like I said. Great action carried by an enjoyable to watch main character (or should I say, COOL) and an adorable female lead. It's simple entertainment and exactly what it promotes itself to be.

Akame ga Kill's not a good comparison because AgK from start to finish tried presenting itself as a genuine story with it's own philosophies and ''depth'' rather than clear-cut action entertainment, which fully opened it to criticism on that account considering how poorly written it was. Not to mention that the way AgK tended to achieve the same ''it's a merciless world out there'' feeling - that Goblin Slayer tries to as well - was absolutely horrid shock factor that depended on slaughtering it's cast off prematurely and significantly wasting any potential these characters may have had just to make the point of ''yeah bro, everyone can die in this manga. expect the unexpected'' which in retrospect worked against it because it pulled this same stunt so many times that everyone and their mother expected practically every character to die, leaving no surprise when it actually does occur.

I'll have to rewatch the first two seasons of Toaru before I start season 3 as it's been years since I last saw them. Barely remember anything other than Accelerator being a badass and Touma punching guys. Also haven't watched the movie yet. Hoping for more Accelerator in season 3.

Oh you should see a lot of him, by this time in the story Accelerator essentially becomes a co-protagonist, so he'll have a good amount of screentime this season.

Goblin Slayer sounds like a double edge sword.

It's like the author is baiting rapists to then kick them in the crotch by killing the rapist characters.

Glad I checked the forum before downloading. I'm down with rape shit, I barely accepted it in KnK.

Somehow, I doubt that a show titled "Goblin Slayer" would deal with the issue of rape and rape victims with the same seriousness, depth, and gravitas Kara no Kyoukai did.

Oh yeah I can't argue about that, but for me rape is a hard to swallow theme and I'm okay if it's verbally mentioned, even foreshadowed, but visually? that's other deal, specially if it's extremely explicit. That's why I let it pass in KnK because I know it wasn't just a mere hardcore bait to please "edginess" it was a serious theme.

No because a Tsukihime anime won't happen for the next hundred years. At that point it wouldn't be modern anime.

If modern anime is a mistake, then clearly we must transition to anime postmodernism, in which we discuss Foucault's power dynamics in regards to the oppression of the loli.

SAO III premiere was pretty lit. Really good refresher too since its been a couple of years since i read this part in the books.

@Botato i saw what you were talking about in the Index News thread. I wouldn't bother with trying to convince that guy. If I remember correctly, the heathen watched Knk, Monogatari series, and Baccano in chronologic order...

I actually wasn't talking about him lmao. I don't care how other people watch things, I meant all the people calling Index shit in favor of Railgun or expecting Accel anime to be the best because muh edgy favorite character Accelerator so it must be great :blobweary:

I mean given the anime adaptations history yeah I can see why Railgun is more liked BUT STILL

Yesterday, I binged the first season of Railgun and 12 episodes of the second season.

As for S1, not bad. 6.5/10. Would've given it a 7.5/10, if not for the abundance of worthless filler.
Yes, show, I really wanted to know how that glasses anti-skill officer deals with her work stress. ffs.

For episodes 1-12 of S2, I have to say that the narrative stakes and production values certainly jumped up big time. Everything I see so far is way more entertaining and the fights are choreographed and animated beautifully. It's a real shame that very few shows actually look as good as this and actually, you know, take more than 15 seconds for fights to conclude.

The second season so far is compelling enough for a solid 9/10, but let's see how the other half holds up.
