I don't consider myself the harshest critic but I do take my rating style pretty seriously. So while I do give a lot of 8s and 9s (which by my standards is still fairly high).. I don't give out a lot of 10s.

A 10 for me isn't necessarily "flawless", just that said series had little to no flaws that bothered or annoyed me. Also it had to be a series that I considered a piece of art that really resonated with me on a personal and emotional level. Like the kind of stuff that constantly had me in awe time and time again and never had a dull moment. And just never left my mind months (even years after watching) because the impression it had on me was so great.

Lastly, the Anime has to be complete with a proper ending that ties up all loose ends! Leaving nothing more to be desired because it had a satisfying payoff!

How do y'all decide if an Anime is a 10/10?

A rare fusion of entertainment and quality that I felt was either extremely enjoyable or meaningful to watch (like 4% of what I've watched). The story was fantastic, the characters were likable to the point where it made me get emotionally attached and care about what was going on, it was well made, and it ended conclusively or satisfyingly.

1: a compelling plot
2: a finished story (the story has to have a proper ending by the end of the series)
3: good characters
4: enjoyable to watch
5: a minimum of 20 episodes
If the anime meets those criteria than I will consider giving it a 10.
out of the 169 shows i have completed I have a total of 6 shows that I gave a 10

Very rare and almost non-existent in my standard. Not even my favorite anime is 'perfect' either.

In short, I don't have any shows I rated a 10.

I don't currently use the 10. My rating scale presently only goes up to 9.

The 9 for me represents a series that I love, and didn't give me enough qualms to drop it to an 8.

Compare 7, which means I like it, but not to the intensity of loving it. A 5 is a meh, a 3 is a dislike, and a 1 is a hate.

Just give it a 10 if you really want to, there's no need to think it out.

i know that it may be absurd but one of the main standard for an 10 on 10 anime for me is that it should be quite an emotional show.hence Angel beats,Natsume Yuujinchou, Anohana and Colorful(movie) are highly rated in my list

10 needs to have a memorable / developed cast, the story has to be thought out and have good structure, pacing ++ if small details are added along the way down the line for early readers, be the absolute best of its genre aka no other title can knock it out with better premise handling.

Added bonus if it made me cry, lots of 9's made me cry too but that'll usually solidify it.

For me a 10/10 is something I felt a strong emotional resonance with (Welcome to the NHK, Evangelion), something that I think about a lot and had an impact at the way I look at things (Haruhi and Evangelion again), or sometimes its just something thats really well produced and does what it does amazingly (The Chimera Ant Arc in Hunter X Hunter was reminiscent of something that in my head I wanted to see play out forever and the fact it did that in a very well made show and Nichijou is just really fucking and the fact that its so well animated and very comfortable feeling adds to it)

Mostly because it lacks yuri, lolis, and incest.

There is no fixed standard, and it's very hard to describe as I rate them based on feeling.

But when I'm rating an anime 10/10, I'm definitely enjoying it thoroughly. They are usually comedies.

I've never given an anime a 10/10 immediately after watching it. It may sound silly, but if I'm still awestruck about a particular anime many months after I've finished watching it, ill give it a 10. An anime has to resonate with me on an emotional level. And sometimes that takes awhile to sink in. Like you said OP, 10s aren't necessarily flawless, however for me it comes down to pure enjoyment. I don't hand out 10s very often, but when I do, I hold them in exceptionally high regards. Those are my standards for 10/10s.

A 10/10 is an anime that inspires me and truly exemplifies what I love about the medium.
Has to strike me with masterful storytelling, amazing visuals and a memorable/well utilised soundtrack, but also resonate with me conceptually and thematically.

I usually find myself re-watching my favourite scenes from an anime shortly after finishing it, and a 10/10 will have a lot of these scenes, so much so that I'm virtually starting the whole series again.

I would probably be able to recommend these anime to anyone.

Out of 300+ Anime I have completed that I can remember I think only 3 have a 10 rating? For me a 10 rating is something that is profound and leaves an impact. Also I tend to give favor to anime that have original idea's and themes. For example Shin Sekai Yori. The show starts off in a bit of a lull but takes us on a fantastic joyride into the supernatural as well as makes us consider the rules we as a society impose on others. The theme IMO is original, the artwork is well done and doesn't need flash to make itself known. The soundtrack is memorable to be sure, and the characters for me were unique and real.

I take the MAL rating system serious and find too many people rate everything from 5-10 usually 8-10. I find these people to be either dishonest, ignorant of how a rating system works, or that I just cant take them seriously when they rate or review something. Personally unless your new to anime if your mean score is 7+ I think your doing something wrong.

There are so many people who spam 10 randomly.. but i take it very seriously.

Perfection for me means 9 honestly. the jump from 9 to 10 is something very hard and that i have to feel inside.. Must be a godly creation that let you think about it, complicated in many aspects that make me say WOW. If i put a 10 it totally means i will never forget it and will leave something forever inside me.

There are so many times i have watched something that in the end made me felt great.. but with passing of time you almost forget it. I haven't put any 10 to an anime yet, i have three 9 tho. My favourite is chihayafuru, i'm evening learing to play karuta but i felt to put 9, about death note i think the second part doesn't deserve a 10. And shingeki well... for now is 9.. might change later when i get to discover everything about titans

the visual novel steins;gate is the only 10 i put in my life. While i voted G-senjou no maou 9,5 because some common route is boring, but the true route is 10/10 100%

I'm not hyper critical. I watch Anime to be entertained. So if it ebtertains or intrigues me in any way possible then that usually helps the score.

How I rate my animes depends on hiw I found the story, characters, animation and entertainment or intrigue value.

I love a good anime that draws me in and makes me ponder whatd gonna happen next.

Or an anime that flat out makes me laugh or smile or just enjoy whats happening.

if im going to seriously rate it tho thats a different story, because no matter how i want to convince myself re zero deserves a 10 at the end of the day its not a 10 show

but then again its how i rate shows if i like what i gave it then i keep the score i gave it. if i give a show a 9 but know deep down it deserves a 7, screw that im going to give it a 9 because its my rating lmao not yours

It doesn't need to have high production values to reach the second requirement, but it can't have any serious flaws. These are the shows where it's likely I would seek out to buy merchandise, DVDs/blu-ray, and/or manga. I wouldn't mind dropping whatever I'm doing to rewatch at least some of it.

Yeah, that means I give out 10s more often than they deserve, but eh, well.

My rating is based on how much a show annoys me. It starts at 10 and goes down from there. I don't think that a 10 rating means that the show is perfect, but that it has no flaws that inherently put a damper on my enjoyment of the show.

I should also point out that I'm a pretty harsh critic. So, it's easy for a show to annoy me.

10 - can ignore or love everything wrong with it
1 - can only see what's wrong with it

I don't use this system anymore, but this used to be my description of a 10/10 anime.

An irreplaceable rare pearl of this medium, with nearly non-existing flaws within. A phenomenal show that upon completing left me with that weird bittersweet aftertaste: the joy of witnessing something genuinely astonishing and the sorrow because that feeling couldn't have lasted forever. A resourceful project which has done what it was aspirating to do splendidly. Presented, executed and explored to its fullest potential, being an exceptional creation surpassing and transcending any boundaries of the medium. The sheer amount of entertainment I've received from watching it is beyond rational speak: every episode, every minute, every second have been an ultimate joy to watch.

1- NO OPEN ENDING AT THE FINAL EPISODE. If they give me a portion of a story, the best possible score for me is a 9.

2- Good plot. It can be simple like Yuru Camp. A complex story doesn't mean it is automatically good (Sekaisuru Kado)

3- Good characterization.

I'm not too picky with animation quality and CG, but, if the CG is really bad, I usually remove some points.

Hmmm...

An anime show earns a rating of 10 from me if I like the characters; if the story/themes/plot get to me in any way; the animation and/or music is top-notch, et cetera. But, most of all, it's probably my overall enjoyment of said anime show upon completion, so...
