THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

lol I was not expecting this to be MAL. Found it browsing through Kaito Ishikawa's page so it must have been added recently (or a few months ago). Might as well make the episode thread since no one did it.

Anyway, it was a good movie. Obviously, Masuo was the best thing about Back Cover, especially since he's voiced by Sugitan. Thank you Nomura for choosing him to be in KH since he was perfect for the role. Not only that TsudaKen is now in KH all thanks to Youji Shimizu. Plus, HANAKANA and Kaito Ishikawa. I still remember watching the 2.8 trailer and hearing HANAKANA's voice. I lost my mind in excitement.

Continuing, Yoko's music was amazing as expected, especially the one piece during Masuo and Luxu's conversation at the end when the music just went crazy. Also, I loved it when Masuo said "Supriii~se!"

Anyway, for those wondering...Yes. That is the keyblade Xehanort would later have. It was passed down from Luxu to apprentice, repeat process, until it reached Xehanort. Just you know, X takes place more than 100 years before Birth by Sleep.

PS: Damn you Oka for creating "May your heart be your guiding key."

If you see that my post is exactly 1 month old (or more) from when it was posted... Don't waste your time, especially when you want to reply with something petty & insignificant. Assume that I've moved on (because I have).

This OVA makes Kingdom Hearts lore much more complicated... Still a cool watch though.

@DarkShadowBlade No...it really doesn't. Considering you said "much more complicated", it shows your understanding of the series prior to watching this so the result was unavoidable.

As Ansem SoD once said..."You understand so little. A meaningless effort. One who knows nothing can understand nothing." and "So you've come this far, and still you understand nothing."

Yeah, I'm well aware of the mobile game and it made the lore much more complicated (my brother filled me in on what the whole thing was about before I watched it (he has the PS4 since I only play on PC).

Now sure it did set up the events leading to the Keyblade War but it made the whole thing much more convoluted than it needed to be. Not even the Metal Gear series was this convoluted... It doesn't mean it's a bad series though, I'll be waiting for when KH 3 comes out on PC (if it ever does).

Dunno how this really counts considering the other Kingdom Hearts clipshows from the other HD compilations aren't in here, but okay I believe you guess...

So anyway I watched this thing cuz Xbox Game Pass has 2.8 now (yay?) and it's just.......
Well, I can't say I'm truly a KH fan to begin with, but I do acknowledge that this series has its moments—some characters are okay, the music is probably the best thing this series has to offer, and Kingdom Hearts 2 is probably the one I'd say is the closest in the series to being unironically great. It's unfortunate that this series continued on after that though, cuz ngl it just got worse and worse as it went on.
Why'd I mention my stance on KH just now? Because I want to provide the context that I've pretty much followed the series up to that point cuz of a family member who's been binging it this year. I couldn't help but watch them play cuz I like Square (said family member loves Square too) and I generally like watching them play games sometimes.
So, as someone who knows what this series is and pretty much 80% of what happens in it, I have no idea what the hell was going on in this OVA.

This is some kind of cinematic attempt of retelling what story is in Kingdom Hearts χ, a mobile game (moba, mobage, whatever) that for some reason is CANON to the franchise. Maybe it's cuz I was half paying attention cuz this OVA quickly lost my attention as soon as it started showing the game screenshots and soon after the actual OVA, but I cannot tell you what the hell was happening or if there's even characters or what they were doing or supposed to be doing or even if there was a real story. Anyone would honestly better off reading a synopsis of the game online or meme summary videos if you want to understand anything.

5/10 sorry, pretty forgettable and quickly gets confusing to follow (even with series' context).
The only highlights of χ Back Cover are some nice shots that have symbolism (like there's a shot of the water where you see five flower petals slowly drifting away from each other during a heavy argument scene) and the mysterious Master, who did give me a few chuckles with his weird but quirky dialogue/personality.
