I'm so hyped!! Can't wait to see Ash and Eiji in action! Really love how the character design turned out, they look really handsome.
ALSO 2 COURS YASSSS I hope it's enough to do a good adaption though

Well that PV doesn't really peak my interest as someone that haven't read the manga.

Max Lobo: Hiroaki Hirata (Koi wa Ameagari no You ni)

Apparently, Kondou decided that boy's love is better and safer than a romance with a innocent schoolgirl. And if without jokes, here really is enough material for 20+ episodes?

so excited!! <3 from what I've read of Banana Fish it's a really gripping and intense read, which would translate very nicely to screen given all the action set pieces and intrigue. really liking how the chara designs turned out even if they're a bit less hardlined and gritty than their original counterparts, but maintaining that level of detail for two cours would be pretty difficult, so I'm glad they opted for something a bit more stylized on that front. only complaint is the note about modernizing the setting, since a good part of what makes the original so fun to read is how 80s it all can be, from fashion to historical integration to even how certain plot points play out.

with almost 20 volumes of manga, I'd pray they can crop it down enough to make it fit in only 20+ episodes haha

Well, in that case, I'm curious how it will look like as a result. As I understand it, MAPPA is clearly wants to become the main bastion of quality LGBT content in anime. This is BL, right?

The PV looks good but it doesn't peak my interest though. Seems like something I will most likely not enjoy too much but I'll give it a shot later, maybe.

The source material isn't.
There is bromance elements between the two guys but no proper romance.
And there is homosexual characters/elements, with child prostitution and such.

But it doesn't make it a BL. After that, maybe MAPPA will give it a BL romance, it wouldn't be outlandish since there is bromance in the source.

Yup, and done by one of the most renowned shōjo mangaka ever.
Shōjo isn't only cute school romance.
You might also try Top Secret, which is the most similar shōjo anime I managed to find, tone-wise.

It's a non-mainstream trend of the shōjo, but it exists since the 1970s. Sadly this trend is barely adapted into anime, and also rarely scanlated or published.

I didn't read Banana Fish before, but heard great things about the manga.
That being said, it looks promising so far!
I'm looking forward to it ~

@lady_freyja

That is, if I understand you correctly, is it a story about a male romantic friendship for girls that has enough homoerotism to adapt the story into shonen ai?

The character designs are different. Eiji threw me off because that hair is too neat.
Yoshida Akimi's characters will always need more hair wildly flying about.
Ash looks a little more as he should but just seeing him in motion gets me all emotion.

Anyway i'm so damn excited because Banana Fish is one of the two things I consider my favorite manga. 2-cours sounds eh still i'm glad it's not "Here's 13 episodes of Banana Fish 2018!"

Interesting, last time noitaminA had 2-cour was with Your lie in April...
wonder if its just because its that worth it or they could actually have their 1-hour block back ? (most likely not but that would be nice.)

Wow, it's been quite awhile since Noitamina aired a 2 cour. Should be very interesting to see this turns out.

I never read the manga before but this news is getting me hyped for Summer.

Since it's noitaminA, expect 22 episodes. 19 volumes in 22 episodes means that some things will be cut out... if they're planning on doing a complete adaptation. PV looks stylish though. It's actually quite interesting that the manga was serialized in Betsucomi though. Veeeeery different than what they normally serialize these days.

The character design doesn't look too far from the source material, I like that. Modernized, sure, but still keeping the correct tone.
For some reason, I'm actually really curious to see how "Papa Dino" will sound and look like in the adaptation.

Also pretty happy about this 12-12 episode format. Looks like it will have enought time not to rush things while also doing some cuts, wich I actually think could be benefic considering that the 19 volumes of the manga felt a little too long toward the end, with too many unnecessary and repetitive dialogues here and there. Hopefully it will help dynamize all that.. and if they could change the last parts and original ending a little bit, there will be nothing else I could reasonably be asking for.

Pretty much how I expected the modernized designs would look, no qualms there. I read this a few years ago never expecting it to be adapted and here it is. Definitely watching, but this is one I feel would benefit little from the new medium.
