Hey,

I was wondering what is the character limit in one blog ? & how can I check it if possible ?

.

I have found two but old topics with the same question, but with no reliable answer >>

Post limit in the blog section?

The limit is 65535 characters. The first thread you linked already gave you the answer.

You can't see it in the blog entry directly. But some text editors (for example Notepad++) show you the length (total characters). So you can copy paste your blog entry in the text editor and check there.

According to one of the posts linked above, the character limit is 65,535. But it seems like the limit is lower than that. I reached the character limit on one of my blog posts so I checked using 'Word Count' in Microsoft Word (53,261 characters with spaces) and online word/character counters (53,317 or 54,258) and found out that I could only input no more than 53,000-54,00 characters.

Did you use BBCode in your post? You have to count these characters too.

Yep, I used BBCode and counted everything as well.

Can you send me the entire post in a PM? You can upload it for example here: https://pastebin.com/
Then I can check it.

Thank you. But I'm afraid I couldn't send the entire post/original post as I already edited it a couple of times to fit the character limit.

I just tested it and pasted a dummy text with 70,000 characters into a blog post. When I edited the blog post and checked how many characters were left, it was again 65,535 characters. I checked the character count with Notepad++.

So either there was a problem with the character count of the tools you used or there is a problem with BBCode but that's something I can't really test myself. So my suggestion is that if it happens to you again that you have less characters then you send me the thing so I can try to figure out what's wrong.

Edit: I did the same thing with the dummy text but added 20 paragraphs. Now it was cut off after 65,307 characters according to Notepad++. I put the same cut off post into a word count tool and it showed me 65,231 characters. So it seems that different tools count it in a different way and that line breaks have an influence (maybe other things too). That's as far as I can check things though so I need to forward this to the devs. In the end the best solution would be to add a counter that shows how many characters are left so that no one needs to use external tools or just ends up with a cut off text. (We probably won't get this soon though because there are other priorities)

Alright, thanks. Sorry for the trouble. Hopefully, that wouldn't happen again.

I just edited my post, I found something but I can't do more from my side and have the devs look at it. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I'm not sure if it was like this in the past because in all my tests it showed the same number if I remember correctly.
