What was the point of this article?

Check out both popular and unpopular shows?

People already do that

That's a very nice article. Very often I try to suggest an anime to friends and they say that if a show it's not very popular then it may not be as good. But that sure is not always true and you brought some good examples, like Madoka and Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu. Thanks for the nice reading.

An anime does not become popular for low quality work. Popularity means that it appealed to the tastes of most people, wouldn't this make an anime of good quality?

Quality is usually determined by a lot of people with similar subjective interests rather than people rating it objectively. For ex. Kimi no na wa is rated higher than Koe no Katachi, however, Knnw has the body-switching over time and space, minimally fore-shadowed, and vagulely explained, Knk has an overall more balanced, logical story that has no potential plot-holes like above. Of course this can all be my subjective opinion talking, however, quality is subjective to each person, while popularity can be objectively determined.

The point of entertainment is to entertain the most people possible, not entertain a select few people more than others. Wouldn't that mean popularity is a standard that is more fair than quality?
