A lot of us have already watched anime from an age we can't even remember anything, say Pokemon, who were born in the late '90s.

But when was the time you actively became a fan of anime/manga?

For me, it was around when I became 11 or so years old. The Naruto hype has swept me away, like many others at the time.

What about you guys?

ehhh, I would say 19
I have watched a few shows before, but I never really cared to explore beyond stuff like shaman king and naruto, so I wouldn't really call myself an 'anime fan' then
been watching a ton of everything for about 4 years now

I've been a sort of active casual for most of my life, but I didn't actively look farther into the medium until like 2014-2015 when I finally finished Death Note (started it back when it first aired but got bored).

Yes, Shaman King was the shit back then. Even had a custom opening song for a bunch of countries which was quite lit.

@MOB_ABOMINATOR not at all, I also started watching anime seriously at 17, and I don't feel like I've been left out of anything.

@Pixel_Vapour you know what they say, it's never too late to start watching anime.

Watched anime since I was 6-7 years old. Though, not an anime fan until I was 11. I was just mixing up what I watched back then, just happens to be that one of them is anime.

I've been watching Anime since 1992, when I was 4 years old.

Even at that age, I could easily differentiate between Anime and western cartoons. There was always something about Anime that caught my eye in a way that western animation didn't.

"Anime was always influenced by the West. This is not news.
Shoujo is the superior genre primarily aimed at young people.
Harem/isekai are lazy genres that refuse any meaningful innovation.
There is no 'Golden Age.' There will always be top-shelf anime.

When I was 4 they streamed Dragon Ball on our national television. I didn't even know it was called Dragon Ball, I just called it Goku. And I was always like: "Yay, Goku's on television". A few years later, when I was 10, they started streaming Dragon Ball Z and then I learned it's name is actually Dragon Ball and not Goku, lol xD. And after Frieza saga they stopped streaming it, so I decided to find the rest of the show on the Internet. And then I unfortunately fell into a trap called anime. (For all the facepalmers: Note that I'm not a Dragon Ball fanboy, I just like watching it and it was the first thing I ever watched)

Same feelings here. I wasted so much time on things like Dragonfable, FIFA campaigns etc, where I could have been watching shows earlier. One Piece & Fairy Tail would still be slaughtered by my breakneck viewing speed.

Started around 13-14ish. Made a MAL account when I was 17.

I think when I was younger I always had an interest. Like, I would read manga and buy some dvds though I never had the energy to watch them outside Bleach. Then in 2012 I sat down and watched Lucky Star, Haruhi Suzumiya and Acchi Kocchi and that led to me picking up a couple seasonal Winter 2013 while watching K-On. I think thats when I became a fan and fast forward to today is where I am at.

Im weird.
Watched the hell out of pokemon from about age 5-10. Then i watched Bakugan all seasons when they aired, still didnt know that it was «anime» for me it was still a cartoon tv show i would watch saturday and sunday mornings. Then i was introduced to DBZ (it didnt air in my country) through the game xenoverse. Watched it and fell in love. Then DBS comes out and i of course watched and still do watch it weekly, still without thinking about the term «anime» for me it was still just a show on the same page as Star wars the clone wars.
Then came spring 2017 i watched AOT because a friend of mine told me about it (low key think he dod it so we could talk anime tbh) at tht time i realised «oh, this is anime, its actually not just cartoons» then i became obsessed with it and realised then, that the medium called «anime»was a new and unexplored land for me. And so my journey began. Forst i was dub exclusive, then i watched subbed as well, then i learned that AOT had a manga and has been reading manga as much as watching anime ever since. Recently started to look into LNs.

And that is how i became the biggest pest in history to ever plague this site. Hope this was intereesting.

It was a few years ago, don't remember the exact year but thinking on it chronologically (going by stuff I can remember around the time) probably 2014-2015. So 16-17 yrs old.

16 sounds about right. Thinking about it a little harder, I remember The Legend of Korra. I was definitely watching anime when it was on Season 3 which would be 2014.

Also I watched Netflix on PS3, I got my PS4 August 2015, haven't really touched Netflix on PS4 since I was kinda done with it Netflix at that point. So actually maybe 2013-2014. (15-16 yrs old) 2013 would've been when all my shows of interest ended but I watched reruns on TV for awhile, don't remember If I watched Netflix that same year. Might've been mid to late 2013 though.

Doesn't feel like I've been in the scene that long. But before all that, I only watched tidbits of Pokemon on TV (didn't regularly watch). I was shown Dragon Ball as a kid though. I remember getting Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 when it came out for the Wii and being so happy, rushing to hook it up and play. I thought I started all gaming at like 10-11 but BT3 was 2007 so I guess I was actually 8-9 starting out. Wow, lol. So I guess I had a year or two with PS2 post-PC because I started PC like July 2008.

Edit: Thinking [gaming] a little more I remember getting Mortal Kombat Armageddon w/ the Strategy Guide near/at launch. 2006... so I guess I was 8 starting gaming. Think I'mma stop delving into the past now.
