Now for the quality drops, story wise Gatchaman Crowds Insight removed every single thing the first season got right, with damn near surgical precision, and filled it with characters so dumb I was lowering the volume when they spoke to minimize the impact. Artistically, there are too many cases to count, but I just finished this week's Hataraku Saibou and it lingers. The amount of reused footage, backgrounds, designs and holy shit the panning shots! Next to no animation outside of lipsync, and even that was horrible. They somehow seem to have forgotten which brush they were using for lineart for like half the shots, so it looks unfinished. It was either outsourced to hell, or the staff needed to throw it together in a day for some reason. Not between seasons, I just wanted to bitch about it. |

I remember reading an interview where the producer or some other guy said that they wanted to take a comedic approach with Pokemon S/M so Ash's new look kinda fits that. In my opinion it looks awful but I don't watch Pokemon and I have heard pretty good reviews for Sun/Moon. |

In fact as an art major it was probably the smartest shit Pokemon ever did. Those designs from the 90's were outdated as fuck and only anime fans with nostalgia glasses like them. Check out all the fucking sakuga and color palette choices. Like a breathe of fresh air. |

You are implying here that as time passes by, and for no other reason than simply the passing of time, character designs from a franchise "lose value" and hence must be modified or replaced, like they were like...cars or electronic devices or something. I can't agree with this. It's almost the same as saying that people, as they grow older, should realize plastic surgery on themselves to have new faces, because the ones they were born with well....become old |

Yeah I think stuff should be updated and modified because the old designs and functionality of how the anime in general moved weren't doing anything for it. It's much more fluid and the cartoonish style really makes it pop. As time moves forward so do trends and adaption. Anything that is long running ends up changing style. Even series by the same artist over a 20 year period develop and evolve. Pokemon did it all in one incarnation but it did it a lot more good. Again. Only weebs attached to their nostalgia can't get over the change for S&M. |
