| Finally finished it. The animation was Yuasa-tier and the OST was pretty great. It didn't connect with me in the way that Tatami Galaxy and Ping Pong did though. I didn't connect to the characters as much as those previous two shows and the story felt like I've seen it done before with humans becoming the metaphorical "demons". 5/10 |

| All in all this was quite a fun ride! I definitely enjoyed it although it certainly was strange and had plenty of flaws. The main flaw I'd say is the storytelling. Where did Amon come from? How did he possess Akira? Also, I read on the MAL page that in another version it's more clear that Ryo wanted both Akira AND himself to turn into Devilmen, but he failed. In this, it seriously just looked like his psycho ass almost got his bf killed while trying to turn JUST him into one. I'm not a fan of all the anarchy at the end but at least humanity died like they deserved. You honestly can't blame the demons for what happened. Humans went ape shit by theirselves. Well not entirely by themselves, they were pushed along by Ry--Satan but it was just far too easy. This anime didn't really care much for supporting human intelligence. Not one person was shown to be smart. Not one. The Fudo family's mom? She's the reason they all died? She had zero trust in her christian family so she took her son out into that hellhole world by herself. What the hell did she expect to happen? Didn't even try to understand what was going but just decided to dip and then made that poor kid so repressed he ate her. That friend who just turned on everyone? Like why? Gotta admit having all those guys die has me mad depressed. And the whole part with Silene and Akira realizing that maybe even demons have feelings...what happened to that? It was just all swept under the rug. I'm also not a fan of how easily Koda switched sides. And who the hell was Xenon supposed to be? And wtf Tako was a devilcat? (More like wtf was up with that lady that just came in their house and decided the cat needed to die too? Mayhem) Honestly I would have preferred if the end was more of Ryo coming to realize that humans are ok or that he'd rather live peacefully with Akira than staging world destruction. (He dislikes humans but yet looks like one? male and female parts alike xD) And why did it take God time to come? The demons are all like, "kill all humans before god comes!?" Um what? What's god off doing? Playing bingo? And once he does come isn't he gonna kill you all so what's the point? Anyway I'm glad they showed that "senile" teacher was a devilman. From episode 1 I was suspicious asf (what human sticks out their tongue like that????) Cool story. I think one of my favourite scenes is still how Ryo randomly ran up to the dock in ep 1 and stuck out his hand for the merma--Akira. It was so comical xD I'm kinda salty Ryo and Akira didn't have butt sex tho :/ |
| Hell, that was a massive letdown of a show. It tries to be amazing, but failed. I was expecting so much more, definitely because I was expecting so much more since people are overhyping it. I managed to get through this anime without dropping it. Makes me regret saying that it makes the live-action really shit, but I was wrong. Both are shit. Pfffft. The animation of this show is soooo "eh". No need to enlighten y'all. = 2 The soundtrack is okay. Nothing remarkable, tbh. = 5 The characters are meh except Miko. I like her. Akira? Meh. Ryo? Meh. Miki? Hahahaha glad she passed on. The rest of the characters? RIP! = 3 Enjoyment? It didn't amaze me one bit, but I'll give it a point which it deserves. Lmao. This show is not scared to show sexual graphics and whatever sexual shit. That's what I liked. Dafuq did I just say. = 3 When it comes to the story, I already have the knowledge since yeah I've seen the live-action loooong time ago. I think there's only one live-action of Devilman which is the one from 2004, and I really enjoyed that live-action, but the actors who played Akira. Hahahaha. His twin was okay, though, the guy who played Ryo. Just watch it goddamnit, but don't expect a lot. = 5 Here's a glimpse of the live-action I've been mentioning. Lmao.  ^^ Akira as Devilman, then Sirene, and Ryo as Satan. Damn they look good, so I was expecting that this anime will somehow be better than their look in the live-action. Hahaha. Overall... 5/10. I honestly want to give it a lower score, but fuck let's give it a 5 since I didn't drop it. Hahaha. P.S. This is subjective. Can't accept not all people liked/enjoyed your new fave show? Lol. | Um what? The live action movie is seriously one of the worst piece of media I had the displeasure of watching. Okay, I did laugh though. The acting was beyond atrocious. Even with all the problems Crybaby brings, I don't see how anyone could think that it's less enjoyable than the live action movie. |

| Oh.. The ending botched the whole ANIME for me. Like the ANIME went from 4/5 to 3/5 just cuz of the ending which I found to be one of the most rushed ANIME endings ever. (Well..It was a 10 episode series so I guess it can't be helped). But there was so much that could be done with the ending and plenty drama/emotional moments could be added. |

| Best part was when it turned out the Coach (from Akira/Miki/Miko's track group) was a Devilman too, lol. I think he's thus technically the first Devilman we see in the entire series. Also, devilman cat was real? Lol. But in all seriousness, what an ending. It was a real, real ending, if anything. No one wins. Of course, Akira did not win against Satan, after all, it's Satan. It would be improbable if he won, but he still beats Satan, he wins against Ryo in the end... It's interesting to know that Eva's ending was inspired by Devilman and not the other way around, it really shows how good the manga was, and how old it is originally. 8/10. Had a few noticeable flaws for sure... but damn. |

| So basically nothing matters and everything was pointless? I suppose you could try to get some philosophical meaning out of this that humans are just as capable of being unfathomably evil as demons themselves. But when everyone dies, everything is gone, it just leaves the viewer with an empty feeling and consistently asking themselves "what's the point? Why invest when there is no pay off?" That's my problem with endings like these. Authors tend to believe it's some kind of cool and thought provoking way to end with everything and everyone dead, it's just not appealing or rewarding for the reader/viewer in the slightest. As for the positives, I really really loved the character designs; both women AND men were just appealing to the eye. Akira's design is incredibly cool, Miki was really cute and charming and just all around attractive. I really love cute tomboys. Miko was attractive originally, but man did she turn into a total babe after becoming a Devilman. That was one of the really strong aspects of the show, attractive and unique character designs. Not enough anime prioritize design these days. Music was pretty great, that electronic trip rave type music really fit well with the chaos. The animation was all over the place, at some points I was like "Yeah this totally feels anime", and others it felt like a cheap youtube animation from an amateur animator. It was pretty jarring. The English voice acting was terrific, can't say enough about Griffin Burns and Cristina Vee's performances. Now as for the characters, this is a tough one. I think Akira was a phenomenal character, his constant struggle was very interesting to watch. I'll completely acknowledge the fact that Miki is basically a Mary Sue, but I love her all the same. She was charming, kind, positive, and genuine. Ryo was just iffy. The whole way through, his dubious intentions were obvious to any one, so how Akira never seemed to notice it just felt badly executed. Miko became surprisingly deep, I didn't expect the show to invest so much in her. I'm glad it did, because she was easily one of the best and most complex characters in the series. Overall, I can't say this was bad. It really wasn't. However, I can't bring myself to say I really liked it either. The first 5 episodes were terrific, I thought it was going to be something really special. But after the midway point the plot deteriorated into a violent, chaotic, shock value filled mess. I appreciate the show going all out, I think this is proof that an internet only anime can do great things. The ability to be intensely violent and incredibly sexual isn't necessarily a bad thing. At some points, I feel like they were put there merely for shock value, which cheapened the effect. It was intensely disturbing, and even horrifying near the end. See characters I grew to like, cheer for, and invest in die at the drop of a hat just felt like s sucker punch more than a genuine developing plot. I can appreciate some of the themes it brought to the table, humans capacity for evil and our own fragility, but ending it like this just feels, I don't know, wrong. It makes me just think to myself, "what if?". I would've loved to see Akira and Miki together, see the friendship develop between Miki and Miko after making amends, etc. Can't say I didn't enjoy it at many points though. Just wish it didn't turn into a sadistic nightmare with no payoff. A strong start for Netflix anime though. 6/10 |

Probably the weakest of the bunch that I've seen from Yuasa so far, but I really hope the commercial and critical success the show is seeing give Yuasa the ability to work with Netflix more in the future. The story was okay. The first half lacked a clear direction imo. I was kinda expecting Silene to be the major villain of the show, but she was killed off pretty quickly for how much they hyped her up. The second half, while being more focused in its goals also felt more shambled together from a writing perspective. Ryo's motivations, while not unclear (for me at least) were somewhat iffy. I can somewhat see why he acted the way he did, but this show has a tendency to leave important plot points out and add in unnecessary ones. The last episode is a good example of this, in which it felt a lot of the original plot was skipped over and unnecessary exposition about the demon's origins was thrown in. The show has a problem with lackluster exposition overall, most of it coming from Ryo. The pacing held a somewhat consistent speed, ranging from somewhat fast to blastbeat fast. While it was somewhat jarring initially, I was never board and the cliffhangers kept me watching (which is great because Netflix released the show all at once. I really hope this becomes the norm in anime). The characters were pretty good. I quite liked Akira's dynamic between the main cast and the supporting characters. The fact that Akira essentially became the school's uber-chad, all the while maintaining his polite mannerisms around Miki and her family (rather than just being an all-around asshole) was handled really well. Miki was a solid emotional support for Akira. I wouldn't say that she was a super well done and fleshed out character, but she didn't need to be and did her job very well. I wish we could have seen Akira reacting to her death more though. I can understand why people may not like Ryo. His motivations and actions can be a bit abstract and difficult to follow, but I didn't really have trouble with it. To me, it seemed pretty obvious that Ryo originally wanted to stop the demons, but subconsciously was helping them, and that his suppressed identity of Satan was then brought out full force. The rest of the cast was pretty good too. Miku had a good arc, albeit a bit heavy handed, and the rap gang was always a joy to watch (I'm so glad they weren't episode 1 throw-away characters). Koda's motivations could have been more fleshed out, but I will applaud the show for including a gay character in which their sexuality wasn't treated as a joke. Some characters did feel thrown in purely because they were in the manga tho, like Psychojenie and Zenon. The art, animation, and sound were also beautiful and I would expect nothing less from Yuasa. It's violent, bloody, filled with sex, rape, and depravity, and I would honestly expect nothing less from Devilman. While it doesn't always serve the greater theme of whether or not demons are truly all that different from humans, it definitely adds to the overall aesthetic to the show. It's edgy as hell and I love it. That doesn't mean it's mature though. And while Devilman does deal with some very mature themes, it still maintains a degree of playfulness, mostly due to Yuasa's wonderful direction. A solid start to the year and easily an AotY contender for me. I hope it leads to more good anime from Yuasa and Netflix (not funny bad like Neo Yokio, or just meh like 7 deadly sins). If I had to give it a meaningless numerical score, it would be around a Strong 7 for me. |

The exposition was supposed to come in the first episode like in the first volume of the manga, and becomes kinda important to Ryo's reveal (especially with the stone mask and all). As for Ryo's motivation, it's quite clear. He's been preparing his forces to battle God again. He turned Akira into Devilman because he fell in love with him and wanted him to survive the apocalypse. I realise Crybaby does muddle that part a bit, but here you go straight from the manga. |

| When i started this anime i didn't know what i was gonna get. I imagined alot of scenarios and in the end i was still left speechless, i really didn't see this coming. I couldn't even feel bad for the characters because i was too caught up with how things were happening and and overlapping. Quite the journey i would say. 9/10 |

| I really wish episode 9 and 10 didn't feel as rushed. I honestly think they could have stretched the plot to 12 episodes and I'd have felt that bit more satisfied. Dropped from and 8/10 to a 7/10 due to the pacing issue. |

| Good ending for a mess of a show, nothing is developed or paced well. Things happen in a moment with little to no build up or time to really reflect. It's a shame, the core of this show and often times certain moments work really well. But it's just so god damn messy to ever fully enjoy it. |
| This was one of the most weird ass anime I have seen. I am actually surprised it has such a high rating. I mean the show was okay but not exceptional. The action was good but everything was really fast paced to understand many of the things that were going on. Furthermore, I feel like the character development was compromised due it being rushed. I also didn't like the art or character designs that much but I assume the creators were trying to be as authentic as possible. Apart from that I thought it was alright. I guess the show is understandable for viewers who have read or watched Devilman but maybe not so much for those who are new to it. |
| It wasn't rushed, it's just that modern anime fans can't process information that fast anymore. They're too used to longer developments like in Naruto. As someone who regularly consume 70s manga, 10 episodes was enough. A lot of series back then told their stories in 2 volumes. Devilman was 5 volumes long. |

| I liked it, but after reading the manga, I prefer the old one. Most because it's more sadder and injust. They also changed the motivations of Satan to make what he did. The message of the old manga it's better tho, but the anime makes a good job doing a emotional scene, with all the nice music and animation. It's also the first Devilman adaptation to adap the ''original'' ending. So that's also something to praise for. |

| EoE ending lol Nice all-in battle to end it all though. 6/10 (above average) Animation style looked kind of "cheep". Music had a good beat. It felt too much like the smut and violence were the only real driving factors, and this is what hurt it's score for me... not that either is necessarily bad, but the rest was just "meh". |

| Ryo grew tits and fell in love with Akira just like in the original story. Fuck him for fucking everything up. I'm so happy that the cat, Tako turned into a talking Devilcat, he was a good cat after all and loved Miki. He gathered all the Devilman that Miki inspired to come out and they formed Akira's Devilman squad. Too bad Devilcat Taro died before he could do any real damage.  I was expecting Satan to have a massive cock but Ryo's is pretty tiny. Disappointed. No wonder Ryo hated humanity. Ryo's crying because he destroyed everything on earth, but most especially he killed his boyfriend, Akira. He deserves all the despair ever. I loved this series. There are plenty of Anime series that showcase violence but I want more sex to be uncensored in Anime and all kinds too like the gay sex that Koda had back in episode 6. |

| Good bad end, I didn't expect that the anime to wrap up like this. I liked that Miki was not the only one to survive, it wouldn't have made sense otherwise. The last part with Ryo and Akira was well done, but I wonder why God was so long to purify all demons. I didn't like the animation and art of Devilman, the movements are hard to follow and are not detailed enough. However, it was very entertaining in particular the second half. In the first half, there is too much sexual contents and gores, without them being useful to story. While second part is more focused on people's reactions and the development of the characters. Poor Miki's dad, I was sad to see him die. His reaction when he saw his son was so real. It was fun to have a Devilman anime into this anime :D |
| Quite a Downer ending we got here: Humanity got wiped out, Akira sliced in half and God nukes Earth for good this time. Ending was okay, the anime was overall fun to watch. | Everyone dies. The end. As humanity is on its last legs, Akira's battle against Ryo, who is revealed to be Satan, ends in his death. Ryo cries after he realizes he's killed his only friend as God eliminates every demon on Earth, as He has before. As someone who hasn't read the manga, I would still say that this is a solid anime, and say that it is currently the best of 2018. |
