How did Edward reach into Pride?

In episode 61 of the anime whem kimbly is corrupting Pride, Edward reaches into Pride and pride says "impossible he's turned himself into a philosophers stone and now he's forcing himself inside me"

I understand that this was to keep 'pride' in his larva form but how did edward tap into the philosophers stone?

Is it because his father is one, so he is like a half blooded stone?

After Ed has fought Kimblee in Briggs and he's fallen on that metal bar. When he's healing himself he realizes he can use his life energy to heal the wound by essentially turning his soul into a philosopher's stone.
