I don't really have a favorite genre though I tend to listen to almost anything that isn't country or rap/hip hop..there's a few exceptions for hip hop though..Like I tend to enjoy japanese hip hop and the Flobots are sauce <3. I really enjoy bands like Nightwish, Within Temptation, TOOL, Nine Inch Nails. Mindless Self Indulgence, Lacuna Coil, Daft Punk, Aphex Twin etc...

I guess I'm mostly into punk, ska, psychobilly, Japanese rock & pop, folk and the genres between (e.g. skacore). I also like to throw in some good ol' pop and film/anime/TV soundtracks for good measure.

Metalcore and deathcore isn't metal.

On topic: I don't have a favorite genre I listen to all kinds of stuff. Most recently it's been mostly noise though. If something experimental music in general is my favorite.

Although I tendo to like most music, I tend to go towards progressive metal although I also love happy hardcore and electro-lounge music. When I'm in the mood I put up some Indhi music (from India) and gather the experience.

In the anime scenario I fell in love with Tsuneo Imahori's work in Trigun, which goes from industrial-lounge to caribbean, passing through some blues and finishing with some nice drum n' bass. It was really a shame he wasn't on the "people" list, so I put his name, he must not go unrecognized.

Staying on topic, I really don't like is modern-punk, slow ska (but not quite Reggae) and most pop so I tendo to avoid it.

Also. . .WTF people! No Classical category? Sheeeeesh...

I answered alternative in the poll, but i listen to most music.
when i traveled in south dakota and wyoming i got into country, it just fit out there.
when im getting ready i like dance or electronic music (it makes me move faster), and when im driving i like blues and jazz.
but when i take time to buy albums i usually go with alternative and indie stuff that has the happy sound and intelligent lyrics.

I voted Other. My favourite genre is Eurobeat. It's amaaaaaaaazing. First song I heard was Get Me Power by Mega NRG Man and I've been hooked ever since. I have a 1000+ Eurobeat song playlist and I play it constantly on shuffle. Can't seem to get into anything else.

Other favourite genres include metal (Devildriver, Children of Bodom, Manowar to name a few) and rap/hip hop (get mixed up with those two for some reason XD) such as Three 6 Mafia, Bushido, Lil Jon, Kottonmouth Kings, ICP... thing is, I don't really always know what genre to class it as but I just like the songs.

Also like a lot of stuff from my era (80s) like Erasure, Duran Duran, Fleetwood Mac (I know they were before the 80s too but I like the 80s stuff) and all the usual 80s rock/metal bands that you'll find on the likes of Guitar Hero, etc.

Moving on from the 80s, the 90s (mid/early) was the best era for dance music in my opinion. I like dance these days but it's not what it once was.

I also love reggae and dancehall music. I'll be honest and admit that a lot of the time I have no idea what they're saying and I really should make the effort to find out because the music is great but I like it all the same.

Also like industrial stuff like VNV Nation, Rammstein (I think they're industrial?), E-Nomine, Celldweller, Zeromancer... and more. XD

I could go on forever about all the different sorts of music I like basically I more or less like all kinds of music. But there are two genres I really, REALLY don't like. They are...

EMO - (I also class screamo, "hardcore", scene metal, grindcore and whatever else these shitty little emo/scene kids are into these days) I absolutely can't stand any of this shit. Don't get offended by this, anyone. Just my preference. You could like it all you want. I have four most hated bands of all time, and I'm pretty sure they fit into this category. In this order, they are... Bring Me The Horizon, Panic! At The Disco, Enter Shikari and Good Charlotte. I will shoot whoever plays these bands around me. I don't have a gun but I'll find a way. XD

INDIE ROCK - I've never heard any indie rock from any country other than the UK (where I live) so I dunno if any of you have it but it's soooooooo shit it's unreal. It's on the music channels/radio constantly and this is the main reason I avoid listening to/following the UK music charts. It's really bad anyway. And these "indie kids" that came out of nowhere are ex emo/scene kids and they're so annoying it's unreal. They're a mix between emos, chavs and cowboys or some shit. They have no idea how stupid they look. But yeah, this is about music, not who listens to it.

Apart from that, I like every other genre I've heard. I can pick something out from every other genre I haven't mentioned here and listen to it. I love music in general apart from the two above genres. Sorry if I offended anyone too. Didn't mean to. XD

One last thing I'll add is that I don't tend to like much stuff from the UK. Some of it is alright but in general we don't have many artists/bands that will make me go "WOW!!" and I saw Japanese music was mentioned here too. I like it but I'm not obsessed over it like I once was. XD

Anyone who hasn't heard any Eurobeat, please check it out and see if you like it. It's an acquired taste (all my friends dislike it XD) but you never know!! You could end up loving it as much as me. And if there's anyone else here who loves Eurobeat, make a club dedicated to it!! I'll join. I'd make one myself but I'm too lazy. I do own The Engrish Club though so all you fans of Engrish, click my signature. Thanks!!

That is all. XD

Well, I like a lot of genres. Jazz, Classic, Old Rock (Pink Floyd), Tencho (Daft Punk), J-pop (OST), ...

Don't feed me any Pop music (like Reannah), Emo (My Chemical Romance) or any of those more mainstream music, some are good, but most suck IMO.

I hate genres.

To me there are just three types of music. Good music, Bad music, and everything in between.

If music's good, if for some reason i enjoy it, i listen to it. Whether it be for its outstanding technical quality, for its inspirational lyrics, for its danceable beat, for its cheesy nostalgia, regardless of genre or stereotype, i'll listen to it.

I think I will have to say pop xD But I don't listen to the radio so much anymore, since I can hear exactly what I want other ways xD

But I actually listens to a variety of music ._. And I suck when it comes to genres so I just say "There are two genres - The ones I listen too and the ones I don't" 8D

Hey, I stand out, I'm the only one who listens to pop? :-O The radio has to change what it's playing since no one listens to what it plays anymore xD

But as for right now, I mostly listen to Hoobastank and Less Than Jake (whatever genre they belong too), but overall, pop is my fave 8D

"Pop" seems to be a misguided term over 'ere. It should be Impop.

I like different types of rock, metal, hip hop, industrial, and electronic. I am a fan of electronic music in particular, examples being trance and drum and bass.

I also love music that blends different genres, such as rock, electronic, and hip hop. Yay for not being constrained by genre boundaries and stereotypes.

Hmm ok I give you credit, you have potential, but it also depends which of their albums you listen to. I can teach you the ways of "good music taste" if you'd like.

I agree with you in the fact that there is good music, bad music and everything in between in each genre. I listen to almost anything that is good quality, music that is made not for the money but for the art, the expression and stuff like that.
I dont have a favourite but what i listen the most is metal and classical music. pretty contrasting huh? xD

I mostly listen to power, speed, progressive, epic, and just heavy. Bands I really like are Dream Theater, Dragonforce, kamelot, heavenly, Symphony X, Stratovarius, and Tool.
In classical music, my favourite composers are Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, Brahms, and Beethoven

Metal and classical are non-contrasting, they are actually very related, especially the kind of metal you seem to listen to. Dream Theater, Dragonforce, Kamelot... UGH the horror. Brahms and Rachmaninoff are among the best classical composers of all time though.

Genres are arbitrary anyways. Sure, saying that music is "japanese" tells you iota about how it sounds, but that applies to pretty much any less-than-three-compound-words genre about any not-ridiculously-conform band or artist.

Also, j-pop is rather iconic.

Well, i love good old British music. The 70s brought us punk, the 80s - Madchester, and the 90s - BRITPOP!! and trip-hop, the 00s - well, there are a lot of shitty indie-rock bands, that are so loved by the NME, but there also are such geniuses in indie, as Patrick Wolf. Dunno what genre is his music, but it's wonderful. Kasabian are not bad, too, but they can't be compared to Patrick.
Then, that stunningly beautiful "experimental" music from Iceland. Awww~
Some j-rock, of course. And songs from anime.

Whatever, my all-time-favourite is britpop. Rule, Britannia! ^_^

Sorry for a long post.

Lots of stuff. Little more hip-hop, but not the kind of shit that comes out now. Like Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, T-Pain, and those guys, they suck. I like hip-hop that MAKES SENSE. I also Like 70's and 80's stuff.

When I'm listening to the radio, it's rock. Although I don't hate other genres, I prefer rock, and that's about all I listen to. Most of the music I have on my computer to listen to though is j-music of many varieties. Guess I'm only picky with American music. :/
