Translation of "tan-kutsu-ka" as cave raiders

How do English native people feel from the words "cave raiders"?

I, as a Japanese, have no impression of trespassing, stealing or any other ethical negativeness from the original Japanese word, "tan-kutsu-ka," of cave raiders.

According to dictionaries, a raider has several meanings but seems to have its root: "someone who enters a place illegally and usually violently, and steals from it".

Is this definition of a raider plausible among En-natives in the context of MiA?

"Tan-kutsu-ka" has more like ethically neutral meaning;
Tan -- explore
kutsu -- cave
ka -- people.

Do you have any idea regarding the translator's choice of the word "raider" instead of more impartial words?

By the way, I think I know neither Indiana Jones nor Lala Croft had any intention to "steal" treasure and yet their explorations were recognized as raids by those who had left the treasure in the worlds...

Seems like cave explorer would be more accurate.
However, I'm glad they went with raiders, otherwise I'd always be thinking of this kind of cave explorer:

Thank you for your comment, TrashDax. It's highly suggestive and shows me a kind of difficulties in translation.

The funny association of cave explorer further reminds me of Nanachi's treatment of Riko in ep. 11.
