I love this series, really bringing back memories to me too :D

I love the way Pikachu wasn't struck on Ash at the very beginning, but then, as the day goes by and they get in trouble, he protects him!

I like how professor Oak lets Ash opening the pokeballs when he clearly knew there was no pokemon. Haha, he was trolling Ash...

Enjoyed that much more than expected since watching it as a kid 10+ years ago, I was worried I'd out grown it. It still rocks.

Bugs me ash is ten, remembered him being older say fourteen.

Pow! Right in the nostalgia!
Loved how Ash just stole the bike and left the damsel to deal with a huge flock of bloodthirsty monster chickens

Watching this again. Haven't seen the whole series straight in a row.

Wow, this episode was really good and the names of the Pokemons are all different in Japanese (except for Pikachu).

Hmm, the English dub version has some bits cut out, like when Misty slaps Ash. But ahh that opening song, so nostalgic!!! But yeah the names are all different too from the Japanese (Satoshi/Ash)...
I prefer the Japanese version with English Sub but the opening song and the familiar names in the English Dub makes me want to watch both!

Is it even possible to watch every episode in Japanese with subs?

Why would you even want to? I'm sorry but this is just one of those shows you have to watch dubbed. Even the weebiest of the weebs can agree to that.

You're exactly right, Ex_necross.
Pokemon is highly regarded. And it's adored by ALL anime fans. Even people who normally watch subs are captivated by the dubbed version of Pokemon. :)

Generally speaking, Pokemon is a classic anime, and the dub is absolutely hilarious. The dialogue is clever and funny, which makes Pokemon really fun to watch. I mean, I've watched the original series lots of times, and it never gets old. Even after so many years, you can go back to Pokemon and watch it again. And you still feel that same "magic" you felt when you were a kid. It's wonderful!! ^_^

Loved this episode of Pokemon.

I've actually slowly been re-watching the series, as I've recently gotten my nephew into the show... I actually thought going into it again that it would be cheesier then I remembered it being as a kid, but I've been enjoying it.

Had a sudden nostlagia attack and rewatched ep1 of Pokemon, lol. I always wanted to do a full rewatch but was also worried that I would probably hate it and destroy my childhood nostalgia... :D Ep1 was surprisingly sweet and entertaining. The japanese intro sucks though. Going to watch the next episode in german dub to see how that holds up. Well, it will be worth it for one of the best OPs in history alone. :D The animation is pretty fucking bad. So far it added some entertainment value but I don't know for how long. Will see how far I can make it.^^

//omg, the german voice of Ash is ear-cancer!

I love this show and watching the first episode brought back tons of memories. Most of my memories are of the early days of Youtube where I would watch the Youtube Poop version of this. Leather belt ahhhhhhhhh!

Boy arn't i the oddball. This is actually my first time watching pokemon, so i guess im the only newcomer here? :D So glad everyone thought it was a major blast of nostalgia though. I know how that is, i have many series i feel the same way bout. Just not sure if i will be able to handle watching this as im getting quite old. I am kind of watching a mix and match of japanese subs and dubs.

I wonder when the writers will ever finished it, from what i hear the franchise has gone through alot of changes and some of the later seasons show more clever writing and story telling and real world threats and that sort of thing. It seems like the further this series goes, its evolving little by little. Though i am sure people still refer the simplicity of the early seasons.

Pikachu is cute, Satoshi is boring and this was a fine introduction. I watched this as a kid, so I'm just revisiting for the sake of nostalgia. 3/5

The first season definitely has a lot of charm because it has this "freely roaming around and adventure" feeling to it, even if the story doesn't move anywhere for 20 episodes or so.

I watched pokemon when a kid, but this is the first time I watch the very first episode, really well directed, I like 90s anime..
