Background arts tend to be as different as day and night.

What sort of backgrounds are to your taste?

Do you prefer the dark, urban look of Garden of Sinners?
Or maybe prefer the utter Nihilism of Texhnolyze?
Or maybe something much more calming and humble in line with nature, like Mushishi?
Or do you prefer the more simple, down to Earth, but detailed look of Ghibli films?
What about the colorful, lively, world of No Game No Life?

I can't name an exact favorite. But the aesthetics I prefer tend to be dark and bleak like Angel's Egg, bright and beautiful like Sunday Without God, and soothing like Mushishi.

I like two contrasting backgrounds : the dark and bleak one from Ergo Proxy and Texhnolyze and the colorful fantasy world from anime like Re:Zero and Konosuba .

I don't have a favourite background, but man, I hella adore Monster's simple and dark-ish colour pallet. It just works.

The setting doesn't really matter, I just like backgrounds that look like paintings, like these:

Owari no Seraph v

Memories (Stink Bomb) v

And also those realistic ones that look almost like photos (ehh couldn't find examples).

The Eccentric Family's backgrounds have a incredible color palette, especially the parts set in the fall.

I actually liked this one and is even my desktop background.

Tis one I also have when I searched fate/zero I think it was F/SN. Also quite good. From time to time, I'd probably search of a more Spring-like theme or Winter for just because, xmas is coming right up but as I already know myself, I might just leave it as is.

I prefer quality stuff, I guess. Nothing quite measures up to the art of Ghibli.

Spirited Away.

It's not a show, it's a movie.

Ghibli for sure for the nature backgrounds.

Tatami Galaxy for bright and colorful.

Kuuchuu Buranko for abstract.

Other than Ghibli, a lot of atmospheric anime like Mushishi. I love looking at mountain ranges.

Angel's Egg has my all-time favourite backgrounds, but that's a one-off. In general, I appreciate the meticulously observed urban backgrounds typical of KyoAni, and the more abstract stuff you often see from SHAFT.

For darker stuff I'd say Shinsekai Yori

For lighter stuff I'd say anything by KyoAni

For experimental stuff I'd say Monogatari

Extremely detailed background art like in Ghibli, Made in Abyss and Mahoutsukai no Yome is what makes anime deep and captivating/immersive (from a visual standpoint) and is my first choice.

But I also like the art in Kekkai Sensen urban art.

And JoJo's fauve backgrounds. :P

I prefer the cottage like fantasy theme. 😊

From: Akagami no Shirayukihime

From: Gochuumon wa usagi desu ka?

If Akagami no Shirayukihime was set in the moderm times I want the scenery to be like in GoiUsa. πŸ˜†

I don't care that much about art as long as an anime is good. I was amazed by the quality of K - Missing kings overall art, it was eye candy.

I'd say for background art, my favorites would consist of Mononoke, Ef~ A Fairy Tale of the Two, & SDF Macross. All of these series are beautiful as is, but like, the background art in some of them is just phenomenal.

Personally, what first came to mind was Byousoku 5 Centimeter.
Another movie which I found it’s art to be particularly enjoyable was Kotonoha No Niwa.

Some of Serial Experimenta Lain's backgrounds look triply as hell even though they're very simple, like The one with Lain walking down the stairs or the shadows of buildings as she walks home. Made in Abyss's look great, Ghibli, but that's a given. Overall favorite would have to be Monogatari Series. I love abstract, experimental art.

OnS really did have some gorgeous backgrounds. Sure the characters felt super-imposed at times but that's another conversation entirely.
