| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- The Coin of the Sun, Chapter 8: This chapter did an amazing job in showing how easy it is for lower levels to avoid doing what their bosses want them to in large organizations. The farce of the fight was entertaining in its own right, but it also showed the natural absurdity of this story arc. This entire story arc has presented the Debau Company as some a powerful force that was bringing everything around it to heel. We heard Lawrence mention numerous times that merchants were going to eventually rule the world. Yet this chapter showed how foolish that was. Obsessing over the Macro view of the world makes it too easy to assume away the humanity out of humans so your models and predictions run smoother. It's once you get to the low levels that you learn that people have various interest that they are concerned about, and the plans you draw up are not as easy to execute as originally thought. |
