The Summer of Dazai

When the gates were first open it was a very open landscape.
All the boys hanged out at the pool relaxing for the upcoming showdown that was about to commence.
The preliminary rounds left us with 8 Best Boys left to enter the pool.

Roy Mustang and Touya Kinomoto were victories in close matches.
Firo Prochainenzo and Osamu Dazai were victories in one-sided matches.
Roy and Firo would then face off in a fierce battle but Roy used his flame attack to warm up the pool to increase his speed.
This effort showed to be too much for Firo to overcome and fizzled out at the end.
Dazai on the other hand went through Touya as quick as his first match.

That well restedness showed to be too much for Roy.
The amount of effort used to get passed his first two matches showed with a 3 second loss to Dazai.
Osamu Dazai would be crowned our first Champion Best Boy

Roy grimacing wanting to avenge his lost from the First Lap. Put his focus to reload for the Second Lap.
But as he looked at the clipboard in the lobby he saw that the format has changed.
That each Lap from the next will not be the same as the last one. He would need to think up a new strategy to combat the Point Differential Lap.

Mustang would easily get back into the tournament through the preliminary rounds.
But as he glanced down the line he saw him...Firo would also be going through again.
Firo looked back at Roy giving a cocky grin back at him.
The man that took so much effort to beat last time could stand in Roy's way again. He would also be in his Group for the Group Stages.

What made it worst was that it ended up being his first match up in the Group.
Neck and Neck they started as they swam towards the other side to push off the wall.
Roy closes his eyes as he pushed off the wall. He knew what needed to be done. But was it worth it? Did he need it?
As he opened his eyes the water once again started to get warmer around him.
Roy powers through the second half of the lap to another 3 second win over Firo.
Firo with his head down walks back towards the locker room crunching his fist. Knowing his ambition is not over to show The Library Members that Cute Boys can be Best Boys.

Roy though was still behind Zen Wistaria in the first matches of Group A.
The fiery Roy's blood then ran cold as he realized that he could lose this round without losing any of his matches.
Roy then made the decision there that he had to go all out in his next match against Rei Kiriyama.
Rei Kiriyama lacked the confidence to be a Best Boy and took another massive loss against Roy.

Firo, whom seemed just as fired up as Roy, whipped out Zen's lead.
Leaving the match to be decided in the final round of matches. Firo still had a 6 second deficit to make up though.
Firo knew that if there was any time to bring out a Trump Card. It was now against the discouraged Rei Kiriyama.
In Firo's locker sat a vial of strange liquid. Firo showing another cocky grin gulps down the liquid.
On the bottle it said "The Immortality Elixir". With Firo's new found strength picked up a 7 second victory over Rei.

He was in the lead by 1 second. Through a tiebreaker he needed Roy and Zen to tie to move on.
Roy did not look like himself though. Still feeling the effects of going all out the first two matches of his grueling grind.
Zen though was not going to back down just because he was effectively eliminated from moving on.
He had his noble pride and a woman with red hair cheering in the stands. He gazes into her Green Eyes. I small smile was all he needed to give his all this match.

At the sound of the whistle they both dived in the pool.
Roy still giving all he had started off with a huge 3 second lead. But as he flipped over he felt a tightness started to form in his thigh.
As his feet touched the concrete a stinging sensation traveled up his leg.
He stumbles as he starts to sink into the pool. Was this this the end of Roy's Ambition? Hell no.
The arrogant Roy brought all the flames from hell he could summon. Push after push after push he swam.
Completely exhausted he touches the other side with a 1 second lead.
He tied up the Point Differential. Thus going through to the next round on a tiebreaker.
A devastated Firo jumps over the fence hoping one day to finally show The Library that Cute Boys can be Best Boys.

Group B showed no lack of entertainment compared to Group A.
With only having 3 seconds of difference between all the 6 matches.
Each character had their claim to be the favorite to win but one Sadao Maou.
The Sport Lovers had Manami. The Best Looking was Kraft. The Most charming was Ikuto. Where did Sadeo stand?
Sadao would even win the first two matches but still didn't feel the love of the crowd.

Maou had always been a part-time Best Boy. Only competing to annoy a certain woman that yells at him a lot.
On the outside he showed like he didn't care but the inside it ate at him.
He wanted to be the top Best Boy performer but without the love of the fans was it worth the effort.
A conflicted Sadao stepped towards the pool for his last match against Ikuto having a 3 second lead.

Ikuto starts off very far behind. Already losing his first two matches but 1 second. His motivation was crushed.
He felt like he let down all people who came out to support him.
He might be cold to them at times but he still wanted to give back to his fans by becoming a Champion Best Boy.
Ikuto then looked at the stands and heard "Ik-u-to" "Ik-u-to" "Ik-u-to". His fans were still screaming at the top of their lungs for him.
He then realized it was never about winning or losing to them. That he always gave it his all.
At that moment his ears started to change shapes into something that looked more like animal ears.
He wanted to protect the integrity of the support the fans gave him.
Every time Sadao looked over his shoulder Ikuto became bigger and bigger.
Sadao already at full speed could do nothing to hold Ikuto back and eventually conceding to Ikuto.
Ikuto drys off his hair and gives a wink to the crowd. Knowing one day he might have a chance to come back.

Sadao Maou's lead on the group would show to be enough to take him to the finals.
But facing Roy was something completed different than Ikuto. Maou had to think very deep if he had any chance to one up Roy.
He then thought back to his opponents in Group B. Then he looked at Roy in the locker room.
His body was a bit scrawny. His Style was what gave him his fan base.
As we watched Roy leave the locker room he knew what needed to be done.

Roy walked out to start his warming up routine. The fans were going crazy as always until a gasp was heard from the eastern side.
A large muscular man came out of the locker room. The Fans were shocked but there was no worry on Roy's face.
He knew that nothing would stop him in his goal of becoming a Champion Best Boy.
The swimming would begin and at the beginning Maou stayed head to head with Roy. But slowly lose more and more ground.
Then it hit Maou...his muscles were actually slowing him down. He has never swam with this much weight before.
He didn't know how to properly distribute his weight with his strokes.
He lost sight of the goal. He cared too much of what he was not and not enough of what made him get to this opportunity.

Roy with a 8 second lead claimed the Second Lap Champion of the Best Boy Trophy.
Mustang gave a well received acceptance speech to his fans.
He might not be the nicest boy but he is always admirable enough to be a fan favorite.
But then smoke started to seep under the locker room door. A silence fell over the pool.
Slowly the doors opened to a Osamu Dazai with his finger pointing up taunting Roy.
Dazai then set a challenge to Roy. Saying that there can be many Champion Best Boys but ONLY ONE King of the Best Boys.

Dazai knew that Roy wasn't fully healed yet from his thigh tightness.
Roy knew that he wasn't at full strength either but through hubris he accepted his challenge.
Both Champions walked towards the east side of the pool ready for a well anticipated re-match.
Things were to begin as normal but as both Best Boys knew Roy's leg slowly became heavier and heavier.
There was just nothing Roy could do to compete. As the match came to a close the fans could see the pain in Roy's eyes.
Roy held back the tears of being humiliated by Dazai but his fans could not.

Dazai then walked up to podium and pronounced himself "The One Sided King of the Pool".
Saying that there is not a Boy who can even come close to him. That he was no longer human but a Best Boy God.
He would challenge all new Champion Best Boys that are knighted in and no one can take his crown as King of the Best Boys.
A new chapter in the Best Boy Competition would begin.
