The very first anime I ever intentionally sat down and watched, back when the Sci-Fi Channel was doing anime on Saturday morning, was the movie "Tenchi Muyo in Love". It used fully developed characters and in order to find out more about those characters, I had to rent/buy the series. And you know what they say about pushers and your first taste of an addictive drug. That first one is cheap/free, then it gets really expensive.
Well.. if we speak about 'the very first thing i saw animated' that might be something along the lines of Dragon Ball or Digimon. But i don't really count them as 'the real deal', they're either shounen cra* or intended for kids.
Something that i could describe as 'a real anime', is definitely Death Note - which made me the otaku that i'm today.
a tie between Robotech (don't remember which version) and Candy Candy...i watched these at the same time when i was 5, and i forgot almost everything of them. But i recently watched Candy again, and probably i'll do the same with Robotech :)
My first was Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, Pokemon, Monster Rauncher etc. Except, I had no idea they originated from Japan. The first that really got me into it was Yu Yu Hakusho when I was 11, back when it was on AdultSwim.
Unico was my first anime way back in the days but it was Sailor Moon that hooked me onto the world of anime with DBZ and Gundam wing just for the nice looking guys. Also the first anime crush is always a must!
Astro Boy, Marine Boy and Speed Racer WA-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-Y back in the late 60's. However, I was a dumb kid and didn't know I was watching anime instead of just cartoons. A more modern example (for me anyway) would be Star Blazers in 1980.
Starzinger was my first anime, I was watching it when I was four. After Starzinger I watched animes like Arrow Emblem Grand Prix no Taka, Kimagure Orange Road, and Lady Lady. This was long before I actually got hooked on anime.
The first anime I ever knew existed and watched a few episodes of was probably Sailor Moon, but I'm not going to go with that. I'll go with the first anime I ever watched completely, and that would be Digimon Frontier. But that was a weekly thing on TV in english... The first anime I ever finished online, in japanese w/subs was probably Tokyo Mew Mew. Then it was FMA online, but in English. After that the list goes on and on. I forget what was next. Probably Naruto, but since it's so long, I watched a ton of other shit wilst watching it, and so on. Oh yeah, .hack// something-or-other was there to... Ugh, let's just say the rest is history before I start ranting, because I'm in that kind of mood.
Crap, I forgot that Pokemon was somewhere in that mix...
Was forced to see an english dub of beserk on a friends recommendation. Thought it was so horrible I thought I'd never look at anime again, until another friend made me watch one piece (no dub this time^^) which I loved. So beserk and one piece was my first ones.
