Sage: nobody is saying getting anime for free is cool. I just think 10k is a ridiculous amount, but then again i'm not trying to judge. I drop disgusting amounts of cash for retro jordans so I guess to each their own.

Kimura: I buy CD's of artists that I respect and whose work is worth keeping. Same with anime. That's why the only anime sitting on my shelf to this day is a cowboy bebop box set, a GTO box set and some of miyazaki's work. I'm sure it will get bigger as I continue to get into anime but I hope you see see my point.....you didn't run out and buy every CD that had one song you liked on it....haha

$10k really isn't ridiculous when you've been collecting for over a decade, though. As I said. Somebody spending $10k in a year, I'd probably question, but $1k a year isn't a lot. There are only a half dozen to a dozen series that air each year I think are definitely worth the money, so I buy them. I'll get lesser series (say 5-7 rated stuff) when they're on special, but definitely wouldn't pay full price for them.

answer: not many, but there was a time when I would buy a few pretty much every week. I do buy anime OSTs, too, but I'm assuming that wouldn't count ^^

question: how is this relevant, seeing as how musicians don't solely rely on album sales for their income?

Music artists on major record deals get about $0.06 per every CD that they sell, and it's even smaller for digital downloads from things like iTunes. I don't know the exact percentage that anime production companies make off their TV run, but I can assure you that it's around the same level of the cut. Most of the money that music artist make is from merch and touring as they get a much larger percentage from those sales. The same goes for the anime industry; most of the money is made off of merch and DVD sales.

It's up to a business to take my money, too offer me enough incentive to the point where I relinquish their hard fought prize; it's not my job to donate my money to a buisness who has a failing model.

I just said that it was said, I didn't say *you* said it. :)

Yeah, true, and it's okay to spend money on your hobby... but... you don't need to spend that much money, especially when you can so many anime for FREE.

Per year? I have no idea! But in manga alone I have about $3,000 worth. DVD's about $2,000, and other useless crap I'm going to say over $500. Considering I've been an anime fan for about six years... well someone else can do the math.

Well if I had to look at my DVDs, and try to remember how much everything was.....

Well I might be a little off, and considering I got a lot of it online I'm generally leaving out shipping, but my estimates landed me at $2170. Tacking on the things I have pre or back ordered would bring the total to $2260. Adding manga we'd wind up with about $2614.

Though I didn't pay for all of this personally...

Also known as Monster in a box, but I hate that handle...and it doesn't fit here.

I guess roughly a thousand dollars a year. I mainly get the box sets to save an extra 40 bucks a week on anime I want.

Way too much over the years, and I think it's only been about five or six since I started buying DVDs.

I think I recorded everything for 2007.

2007 Anime: $3056.77
2007 Manga: $927.46

So maybe a little over $5000 total on anime and maybe less than $2000 on manga?

Definitely not a rich person. I just have nothing else to spend on (other than save)...

I was working on a database for my collection, but it was lost when my hard drive crashed. No backup. Not sure if I want to rebuild it. May just make a record on DVDaf.com

Anime shouldn't be compared to how much you spend you should buy what you want regardless of the price.

Even if you are nearly broke

I forgot about manga, since I have so little I don't tend to think about it... all of Genshiken, and xxxHolic released so far. So, I dunno, about $300. Vary in price from $10 to $20 a volume. Shelf price here is $22, which I paid for vol 1-3 of Holic. But they're under $10 from Amazon, but then there's shipping. >.>

I have spent around 1000$ on anime and accessories.
...and I have spent around 760$ on manga.

In July I travel to Japan and I'm guessing I will spend a whole lot of money on anime and accessories during my time there ^^.

Just Access. I'm not good at it at all, but I thought I'd learn using something I'm interested in. I remember learning a bit how to use it, but totally forgot everything. Mine recorded how much I spent compared to the retail price, from where I bought the item, etc. Oh well, gone now. May try to do it again over summer.
